I'm going to purchase it, but not until next week or so. We have a ton of family coming over during Christmas break and I think it might be cool to have the game running to add some Christmas atmosphere.
I got it for my niece when it came out and I still can't drag her away from the tv. She's up to level 63 and it's becoming quite the challenge for her. I only had a small chance to play but I can see the addicting qualities of it. It is definitely different then any other puzzler and I don't think it's going to be lumped in with the Bejeweled clones. There is nothing overly complicated by making matches but you just feel like wanting to get to the next level. The music is very Christmasy and there seems to be a lot of different songs. It hasn't annoyed the hell out of me yet.
ok, I've had this game for a while now and here are my thoughts. Take away all the sugar coated goodness and like Corbie said, there's a real unique puzzle game here. It's much more challenging than it looks from the screenshots or the video. While my kid can play the game, she needs Dad's help to get far in the game. The extra powerups (characters) that come out after you collect enough candy canes (and click on the power star) really add to the game. The puppy made us all laugh, the car you can steer around was hilarious. Throwing the snow balls at the screen to help clear a level was actually quite a fun surprise. I tried throwing a snow ball at Santa, I won't tell you what happens. There's several other powerups as well, but these are worth finding out for yourself. One in particular was seriously hilarious and I couldn't beleive what I was seeing marching on the screen.
I've never seen a game like this before, it seems to be a bit random, because the game is always different, but I think for a game like this that's a good thing. It seems to keep things fresh each time you play it. Yah...there's a part of me that would like to see the game with a different graphic theme, maybe gems, marbles, etc. They perhaps sugar coated the Christmas tie in a bit too much.
The 1000 point price tag seems high at first, but there's a ton of game play here. The mini games (I've unlocked 8 so far) do a good job of breaking up the game play a bit. They seem fairly generic but do a good job of adding more content/value for your points. I like the fact that you can select the mini game menu from the main screen and play the mini games anytime you want to. My daughter loves just playing the various minigames. Yah, it's going to be weird playing a game with Santa on it after Christmas but I'm sure my family will be playing it as long as it stays cold or is snowing outside. lol..
Pros: Tons of variety, never the same game twice, 10 minigames, good challenge on higher levels. Cons: Price tag could be lower (like all wiiware games), would prefer non holiday graphics. I also checked out the pc version, the wii version has a couple of extra touches and seems to play a bit faster.
Hey WiiCool, Great review I've finally just had a chance to really start playing it. Looking at it I thought it would be super simple but now that im hip deep, wow. Like you said, there is a lot more there then meets the eye.
