Well, mankind may not need me, but I think you guys are stuck with me, regardless. I'll just stick with Symphony of the Night until the review (and probably after), thanks very much!

I just bought this, the new Contra and the 2nd Lost Winds game. Also I rented the new Silent Hill remake.

I gave in and bought this today being such a Castlevania fan. I've even played the original back when it was originally released on the GameBoy. I don't think I ever beat that one though. I do remember it being pretty hard. I see it seems to be classic Castlevania even to the point where you can't save. It's too bad there's not at least a suspend system in place like the virtual console. I think it'd be nice if that feature was added to WiiWare titles that do not have a save system.

I played through it last night and it's very well done. I cleared the normal mode which was not all that difficult. I am finding that there are lots of secret rooms and stairways that I missed or could not access which means I'll need to playthrough it again. The graphics are nice and nothing like the original GB game. The music is a mix from past titles like Bloodlines, Dracula X etc. Many of the enemies return from the original GB game such as the slugs, eyeballs, knights, mudmen, attack birds, and the things that shoot the poison balls. Some of the other enemies have been brought over from other later Metroidvania titles such as large skulls, ectoplasms, etc. And of course you must deal with Medusa heads once again The game has a nice array of special effects especially with the clock weapon and when Death arrives on the screen. The game is certainly nice to look at. My only complaint is Christopher Belmont moves sorta stiff. All the classic sub weapons return and Christopher can power up his whip to shoot fireball like the original GB game. It makes the game easier, but it only lasts for a short time. Overall the game is worth the 1,000 points, it's much different than the GB version but shares some similar things features as well. If you like Castlevania you owe it to yourself to check this out while we wait for more VC Castlevania titles.

Played through Level 3 so far, and loving it. Definitely a throwback to classic Castlevania; reminds me a lot of the original NES games, before the additions and changes to the franchise. Didn't realize how used to the suspend feature on VC i was, as i played through the first couple levels and wanted to take a break. But like the original NES Castlevania, i don't really mind starting from the beginning each time.

Only complaints (and they are really minor) are the graphics are a bit rough at times (i think they are fine as i am not a graphics-whore, but i could understand complaints), and some of the sound effects are not the best. But again, very very minor nitpicks.

The Shpydarloggery
She-Ra is awesome. If you believe otherwise, you are clearly wrong.

I beat it on Normal last night. Twas pretty good, pretty worse-than-the-other-available-Castlevanias, yet still pretty good.
The music was a letdown though, any of the other four Castlevania's tunes put this one's to shame.

The lack of any sort of method to resume progress, or start not from the beginning is highly aggravating, and highly questionable.

Perhaps they're just trying to keep consistant? After all, none of the other ReBirths had a save function, if I recall correctly. Not to mention it's based on a GB game, which also didn't include a save(although it might've had a password system).

Love this game. Have been playing with a NES controller using a NES retroport. Definate throwback to the 8 & 16-bit era.

Actually Gradius Rebirth lets you select any stage once you finish the level. So you don't have to play the entire game in one sitting. But I would also mention that Gradius ReBirth is much tougher than Castlevania and Contra on the difficulty scale.

I'm actually glad i downloaded this. I wasn't a big fan of the old school Castlevania games until i played through this one. The length is just perfect for a quick fix but very short compared to the DS games . I would love to see them continue the series on Wiiware , i can never get enough Castlevania.

This game DOES have a way of letting you resume your progress.

Move the cursor to "Game Start" on the title screen and hold "right" on the control pad for about 5 seconds. You will be able to choose any level you've already beaten. This should influence some people's purchases for the better.

Also, this game is awesome. Beaten it twice already and I'll have fun coming back to it and find the alternate paths. I'd say it's one of the best Castlevania games; only Super Castlevania 4, Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night are better in my opinion. M2 did an excellent job on this game.

Oooh, good find. Wonder why that's hidden? I'll have to try it out.

I actually saw someone else point it out elsewhere, but it doesn't seem to be common knowledge.

Yeah, why did they leave it as hidden as it is? No mention of it in the game's manual or anything. I've seen a lot of people complain and even turn down this game due to the lack of a save option. :/
