If you want a Wii game that is out already, your only option is Klonoa, that I know of. Fortunately it is a budget title, I think.
As for VC and WW games, just search the reviews of this site. You can go to the Games section and sort by genre to find them all and decide for yourself.
Keep in mind that Nicalis is developing several great WiiWare titles that at least involve platforming, though some are more focused on shooting and action. Some of which should be out this year, hopefully, and two of which (Cave Story and La Mulana) can be played for free on PC in other forms right now.
When is Muramasa coming out? That looks pretty damn cool, and I would call it a platformer
First Week of September! I'm preodering it when I pick up the Metroid Prime Trilogy so that I get an assured copy and the wall-scroll! I suggest if you want a copy you get it when it first comes out because after all of the Japanese copies Vanalliaware shipped sold, they quit production!
I want to get doremi, but I have a problem. I already want to get nyxquest, and doremi would bring the total up to 1900. I have 300 points left over, and I was hoping to get a nes game like kirby's adventure or kid icarus. So, I would have to get something other than doremi that's 800, or change nyxquest to a 900 point game. Is 3 musketeers good?
Get Nyx and DoReMi, and then buy a Pepsi to get 200 points =P

Klonoa is my pick of the bunch. I really enjoyed it from start to finish and it's one of those games that you know you'll play through again and again.
Personally i know most of you will tell me i have no place on this topic after my answer, but honestly, id rather have more 3D games (unless its a 2.5D fighter) for retail on wii and keep moving forward that way, 2D i think should be catered more to wiiware and vc, with only the occasional release for retail. The past is the past and i dont feel the need to be revisiting (with the exception of new super mario bros)

@dadun yes, I agree, you have no business here. This is a thread for people to give their opinions on the best wii 2-d platformers, not to talk about how they shouldn't make retail ones anymore. If you post, please answer the question I've asked. Oh, and sorry if I sound like a mod.

Ok i thought what i gave was an opinion but ill try again MY OWN HONEST OPINION FROM MY HEART: Man we definitely need more 2D platformers they are the bomb i wish 3D would just die and hang from a tree, the old days were so much better man, the people making games today will kill us all. ITS A CONSPIRACY I TELL YOU! STOP THEM BEFORE THEY KILL US ALL!!!!

I've heard this a lot, and I really don't think this line of reasoning is very well thought out. There are only two possible types of video games: 2D and 3D. Let's ignore text-based and other non-graphical games (like that XBLA game that is just a blank screen and sound) for now.
What people are essentially saying here is that 2D had its run from the 70s to the 90s, and 3D gets the rest of mankind's existence to rule the home console. Why, just because one is newer than the other? How is that fair? There are distinct advantages to both 2D and 3D games, and neither is remotely close to having its potential tapped out. Even relegating 2D games to download services isn't that great an idea because it incurs size limitations and lesser market visibility for games that are in no way necessarily inferior.
Whether we're talking 3D graphics represented in a playing field with only two axes of movement (the ridiculously named "2.5D") or true 2D, both look spectacular in HD and still have plenty of room for improvement, just as 3D does. For instance, BlazBlue (360/PS3) is in my opinion the best looking of the tournament fighters released so far this year, and it's plain 2D. The other games (SFIV and KoFXII) look nearly as great (and I'm sure some would say better), and are both "2.5D" games.
I'd love to see a new side-scrolling Castlevania on Wii, not WiiWare where it would have to be either toned down visually or not very sizeable. New Super Mario Brothers Wii looks very good and would not have fit on WiiWare, surely, given the amount of levels. I still think JRPGs would look much better in 2D on home consoles, too.
2D games had maybe 20-25 years, and much of that time was spent experimenting with what was possible in video games. The "genre" if we can call it that was hardly mastered during this time, and the indie games scene has proven there is still a lot of potential for 2D. I don't see the reason for 3D games to continue dominating the market for the rest of history just because it is a little bit newer than 2D. 2D may be slightly older than 3D, but that's no reason to leave it in the past.
Pardon the rant. Just airing out some long-brewing thoughts.
Haha, I took too long typing my response and missed some good banter. I welcome Dadun's dissenting opinion. It's an interesting possible discussion, though maybe not the thread for it as Sonic Master pointed out. However, I think all the 2D platformers on Wii have already been named, so perhaps the original purpose of the thread has already been met.

I well everyone caught a whiff of that air.
Anyway, i see where you may be coming from (im assuming youre much older than me [no insult attempted]) but for me tio be honest i have an immediate bias seeing as my first console was the n64 and since then ive mainly played 3D games and didnt grow up or experience much 2D other than in fighting games like SF and KOF (which rule...cmon guys). So in that regard youre right it wasnt well thought out neccessarily but its what i believe as a teenage gamer whos been growing up with 3D, if i grew up in the snes days or before i probably would also be attached to 2D outside of fighting games but im afraid that can't happen my friends....id need bill and teds time machine before i truly would ever think to change my standing opinion
@Adam man im not attacking you or trying to in any way. we're still on the "dont forget local multiplayer" bandwagon together right

Man you are right though, until now i really never realized how many people still dig 2D games, and ill admit if i was one of you guys games of today will not be making me happy most of the time.

Did you just reference Bill and Ted while trying to act young?
I know you're not attacking me (well, except for that age comment... I'll get you for that! ), and it's a valid opinion. I could understand having a personal preference for 3D, but relegating 2D only to downloadable services doesn't make much sense, at least not this generation. My hope is that eventually consoles move to download-only like PSP Go is trying in the handheld world. Sooner or later it ought to be possible and practical, in which case 2D games hopefully won't be hampered by size limitations or the inferiority complex a WiiWare stamp might carry to some buyers.
And funny you bring up local multi-player since that has become as much a thing of the past as 2D has. Suddenly that "the past is the past" argument is not panning out so well, huh?

Ok, bill and ted, i watched that before march break in history class with my teacher (his movie) and class
To your main paragraph: I diiiiidd say a 2D retail game can be released on occassion, but thats probably not an answer 2D fans would like to hear lol
to your last thing: Brawl, Mkwii, and some wii games have great local, its not a thing of the past, its actually the other consoles with their halo and call of duty local that makes me say the wii needs more, the other consoles stil lhave tons of local.
You're goin to get me huh....hmmmm...knowing you (or not really) i can only guess (or not try to guess) what you mean by that. looks out window AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yep, there are a few games with local multi-player still, but there are still a few with 2D graphics as well. The problem is that they are only occasionally released, like you said, and the trend is to move away from 2D to 3D; away from local to online. Hopefully these trends will eventually level out so that we can enjoy both local and online for most multiplayer games, and 2D games won't be reserved for short downloadable games that will be dumbed down due to size limitations and most gamers won't even notice they exist since only so many gamers are online, much less check shop channels.
Would Kid Icarus be a good buy? I've read that it's difficult and people have said other not very good stuff.
Some people like it but I could never understand why. It gets insanely hard in the second level. So much so that I stopped playing it. Although maybe that says more about my skill than anything...
