Hmm, things that are bad about LttP... 26 to be exact.
a) Alll the things that got introduced in Ocarina of Time like expansive 3D, Epona, Sheik, etc.
b) Distinctive lack of multiplayer, co-op, deathmatch, CTF, etc.
c) Lack of vehicles, ability to jack said vehicles and random missions to gain rupees.
d) Customizable character appearance and stats.
e) No random generated dungeons.
f) New game plus isn't present, no rewards for replaying.
g) Achievements are missing.
h) Missing save anywhere feature, pick up and play gameplay.
i) No blood or fatalities.
j) In-game time does not pass.
k) No difficulty setting(I don't know if this is true, I don't remember)
l) Attachable quest/map expansions.
m) Epic arranged soundtrack not packaged with game.
n) No variety in other playable characters.
o) Lack of full environmental damage, bombs leaving craters, blowing up the side of people's houses, etc.
p) Bullet-time power.
q) No rechargeable energy shield.
r) Needs occasional invasion of towns by monsters.
s) Lack of temporary invincibility power-up.
t) Customizable base of operations needed.
u) No collectible offensive creatures/familiars.
v) Needs more relationship building.
w) Lack of transferrable custom map-making.
x) A total-time spent playing clock would be a depressing, but necessary addition.
y) Needs more different endings.
z) Lack of cameos from other Nintendo characters.

Mario is in the game. Kinda.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

Retires from video games

But, in all serious, it took me about 5 tries to beat Helmasaur King, and I think I only had 1 heart left when I finally beat him...

I wish I knew how to make games. I'd then set out to fix all those "issues" I listed above in my last comment. It'd turn out kinda funny I think, definitely would keep you on your toes.

I'll agree on the difficulty spiking upon the boss battles. Also, having to meander all the way through the !@#$ing dungeon every time I die in a boss battle really sucks.

  • Not all the bosses required the dungeon item to be defeated. Its minor, but I prefer it when you actually have to use the dungeon item in a clever way.
  • Link dies way too easily. At least, compared to later Zelda titles.
  • The player sometimes feels lost. I'm not talking about where to go after a dungeon is completed. I'm referring to the times when u have to leave a dungeon through a certain exit and reenter through another entrance. That always confuzzled me.
  • No dungeon warp points.
  • Times when you know WHERE to go, but you don't know HOW to get there. And there's extremely little to no hints.
  • Link has purple hair.

Its a great game, but definitely not flawless.
Link's Awakening corrects all these flaws and does it nearly perfectly imo.

Half of it's fanbase is extremely whiny when proclaiming how great it is. Sure it's a good game, but come on. >:/

Those freakin' bombs and hidden enemies in the bushes! That's just not fair, and I'm never ready for them! Yes, once you get the red boomerang, they're not a problem anymore, but that's pretty far in and it's worse when you have less health anyways. I love A Link to the Past, but they get me every time! >_<

Oh gosh, I hate the trend of requiring the dungeon item to defeat the boss. I mean, seriously, what is Ganon's problem that he would leave key items lying around like that? It doesn't make sense. He's terrible at managing his evil organization, and it just feels forced, like the boss is another puzzle.

The only boss I might have trouble with is the boss of Turtle Rock just because I always forget to fill up on blue potion instead of fairies. If you come prepared for the bosses, they could not be easier. What other game lets you die four times and still continue fighting the boss without interruption? Granted, this doesn't apply to early bosses, but those you should only need one or two fairies for anyway, if any. If you find the bosses hard, explore the overworld more and find every heart container and every bottle available at the time. Zelda used to be about exploration, and that idea was still in tact for Link to the Past.

And yea, that is pretty lame about the save game, Link Hero. Fortunately, I play it on VC now, and I never cared about it before, so that works out nicely.

The save system is a tad inconvenient, but tolerable once you get used to it.
The bosses would be a little better if you could warp to them. Having to traverse half the dungeon means you're half dead by the time you reach the boss room.

The GBA version solves a ton of problems.

The save system is actually useful in some parts. Need to get to a certain area but don't want a huge trek to that area? Just save the game and restart it, choosing a location that is closer to where you want to go.

Luckily, the VC version has a safe state mode, which illuminates that problem.

Should take advice from Bowser and build numerous Princess-less castles.

4 Swords Adventures is the ultimate 2D Zelda experience. No, I'm not joking; it's a blast with 3 or 4 players. It's the NSMBWii of Zelda, except even better.

LttP is about as much fun as 2D Zelda for a single player can be, though, except perhaps for Link's Awakening.

Four Swords was indeed awesome. I would like to see a sequel made that is not quite so focused on puzzles though. No Zelda game is less combat-intensive, and it really hurts the replay value. Still very fun to play when at least one player is new to the game.

But when we had a group of veterans playing, we'd usually just play the battle mode after one or two levels because the abundance of puzzles made it feel too much like, "Okay, you all know what to do, get into position so the game will let us continue." The frantic rush for the giant gems afterward (and of course to throw the guy who made it to the giant gem into a hole) makes up for the few moments of boredom, but it could still be a bit better balanced.

Wait, how is that bad? Both of those are fantastic games.

The best strategy in the game: go up stairs and pause balls.

It was a joke, but I'd have thought it painfully obvious what I meant: I don't like either game, and at least in the second case, there are many who'd agree.

It was obvious, but it's sorta hard to tell if someone is being sarcastic on the internet or not, now isn't it?

I got one. Depending on where your facing, Link changes from a lefty to a righty! OMG!

True enough, and I must confess that I generally tend to put on the levels which have more action, leaving the puzzle-heavy ones to the few occasions when I'm playing with someone who has a lot of patience. But the sudden switch between teamwork and the subsequent rush for gems is indeed one of the best experiences in the world of multiplayer; we're all pushing this damn wall forward together, but eyeing it closely for the exact moment when we can break free, pick someone up and grab the gems first. I also love it when the team falls apart due to infighting, and we spend 5 minutes throwing each other into pits or trying to diffuse the situation when someone goes crazy with the fire rod.
