Wii Sports Resort
Punch Out!!!
New Super Mario Bros Wii
Wii Fit Plus.
Wii Motion Plus - uhh not really a game
Metroid Prime Trilogy

4 out of 6 things on the list interest me. While Sony did great this year.

  • Demon's Souls (Japan)
  • God of War Collection
  • InFamous
  • Killzone 2
  • MLB 09: The Show
  • Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time
  • Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
  • Buzz Quiz World
  • Singstar Motown
  • EyePet

See? Sony destroyed this year. Nintendo sucked in my opinion.

First-party games highlighted in bold.

Edit: I looked over SCE's wiki page and discovered that I was only looking at US-based subsidiaries for some reason. I may need to revise my analysis later.

@Mandoble
For EAD, we have:
Just for 2009 Wii games:
EAD Software group 1: Wii Fit Plus
EAD Software group 2: WSR
EAD Software group 3: Zelda: Spirit Tracks
EAD Software group 4: NSMBW
EAD Software Tokyo: Super Mario Galaxy 2 for 2010
You really can't expect EAD Tokyo to develop a game of SMG2's magnitude within the span of 1 year.
That's 1 game from each department. That's really not bad at all.

Nintendo EAD has ~800 employees. If there are 200 employees that are part of SRD (hardware developers), then that leaves 120 employees per programming team.
So 480 employees have developed 4 games.

That's (480*40*52) / 4 = 249,600 labor hours per game
Uncharted 2 took 99 weeks, or 40*99*100 = 396,000 hours of labor.

Uh, RandomWiiPlayer, SONY DIDN'T MAKE ALL THOSE GAMES!! Most (if not all) are 3rd party! Nintendo beat the crap out of Sony in the 1st party department! Why do you people come to Nintendo Life if you're going to talk garbage about Nintendo?

I'm not talking garbage. If you compare them, it shows that Sony did better. And it asked for my opinion, so I gave it. And Sony did publish all of them. If I was going to post a list of every game that came out on the console this year, it would be a hell of a lot longer. Nintendo didn't make Metroid Prime Trilogy, Retro (I know it is second party) did. Nintendo didn't make Punch Out!!! either, yet people are counting that too.

The Game.

Is it after 9PM EST? You should probably ignore the above post.

Tsk. Sony destroyed who? They are still in last place and their tiny momentum didn't lasted. Those games only sold to the same old customers while NSMBWii sold to current, new and even forgotten gamers.

I wasn't talking about sales at all. That is a cheap shot.

Metroid Prime Trilogy (Retro Studios) and Punch-Out!! (Nintendo IRD & Next Level Games) are both first party titles.

You also listed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd party games published by Sony. This is the list of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd party games published by Nintendo:

Cheap shot? what are you talking about? sales in the end are what REALLY matters. Not the personal, niche tastes of a few. In that case, the Sega Saturn is the best console ever because I like its games and destroyed the playstation.

Welcome to the real world: personal tastes doesn't matter in the big picture.

Destroyed in the sense that Sony published more games than Nintendo developed.

There are a few things wrong with this, first being that most of the games listed in the Sony section aren't actually made/published by Sony (I know people already said it, but I'm just saying that so we have familiar ground to start with). Second, four out of six games that interest you is actually a decent percentage. Third, Nintendo made more games than Sony, so I'm pretty sure that's an automatic negative 1 mark (someone could argue about the last two things being not wrong, even though they are ). And fourth, I edited your comment just a little to make sure I don't try to kill you while screaming "RED RUM!!!" get very upset with you (surprisingly a point that can be slightly argued whether or not it's worth a negative 1 mark).

Nintendo got destroyed again in terms of third party releases, but that's to be expected. It's been happening since the N64 (although it seems more obvious this generation).

Getting back to the topic, Nintendo did alright this year. Not awesome, but pretty good. Next year looks like it might be better, but it's way too early to say.

I normally don't reply comments but i will this time for start i respect your opinion in every way but i will not let you insult Nintendo's third party line up since from my point of view it's the best 3rd party line up of the three big company, even do there not Triple AAA there still titles worth looking into since in my opinion there all either or above 8 out of 10 Stars (also look at my earlier comment you will find a link at the bottom show all the North America released from Nintendo for both Wii and DS.)

3rd party support for Wii does stink, imo.

1st party support FTW.

Vander

Granted 3rd party support for Nintendo isn't exactly the best, they do get some good 3rd party support I don't see why people state an opinion without playing the games. I guess there's too many people on IGN.

go to www.virtualhamgames.com for great original independent games, a help service, and reviews for our games.

Wait, ignore my posts. After doing some more research, they both only developed four retail games, but Sony published more. Whether or not you want to count downloadable games, I don't know. Sony developed more downloadable ones, with good reviews too.

The Game.

Is it after 9PM EST? You should probably ignore the above post.

Well, I'm really only looking at the Wii vs. either of the other two. The DS is another beast altogether (and has better third party support than the Wii). While I won't argue that the Wii has some quality third party games, the Xbox 360 and PS3 both easily defeat it in that account. The strength of the Wii really does lie in its first and second party titles.

Third-party Wii games I bought this year (that were also released this year): Klonoa, Little King's Story, Overlord: Dark Legend, Indiana Joes and the Staff of Kings (bought for the classic point-and click on the disc, and only after the price dropped to $20), and A Boy and His Blob. Not TOO bad, really.

Third-party PS3 games bought this year between me and my brother (he didn't buy any Wii games, but we share a lot and he has more money than I do, so...): Overlord 2, Katamari Forever, Arkham Asylum, Prototype, Demon's Souls, Saboteur, Red Faction Guerrilla, and Bionic Commando. I THINK that's it...it's possible I've forgotten something, though.

The point: For us, PS3 has better third-party support. Sure, several of those games are also on 360, but we're not looking for exclusives here as far as I know. Obviously, this isn't really news. Just throwing in my own redundant two cents just like everybody else.

My Backloggery Updated sporadically. Got my important online ID's on there, anyway. :P

And yet, Nintendo sold the most. Is funny how people move the goal post to discredit Nintendo's success.

Nintendo published 18 retail Wii games, while Sony published 10 retail PS3 games. If you take out NPC and GoW collection, then you get 10 vs. 9. If you then take out Japan-only releases, then you get 5 vs. 8 and finally Sony wins at publishing more games.

Also, I don't know if anyone mentioned this, but the topic title seems to be missing a verb...
