WSR, Wii Fit+ and NSMB, am I missing anything else from N during 2009?

Umm...Metroid Prime Trilogy, Punch-Out!! the New Play Control series (one entry not available in North America), and Excitebots (not available in Europe). Didn't you guys also get Trace Memory 2 this year (Another Code something or other, I think it's called over there)? SO jealous.

They did a great job this year. Next year will be excellent. Of course I'm just basing this off of the Wii.

Metroid Prime Trilogy was great and Wii Sports Resort was very nice WM+ tech demo. However, I spend most of my Wii time with Ferrari Challenge, EA Grand Slam Tennis and recently CoD: Reflex. All third party, but I saved me NSMB Wii for the christmas days

Again, Nintendo felt kind of "lazy ass" this year to me.

@TwilightV: I know WE didn't...but I think Europe did. When I said "you guys," I mean Europeans, because Mandoble is listed as being in Spain. Sorry for the confusion.

If they just releaced NSMBWii this year, I wouldve been happy, but they also came out with MPT, Exitebots, Punch-Out, and a bunch of other hits. And the DS didnt dissapoint either

If you mean Nintendo the developer, instead of games for Nintendo's console in general, then you missed Metroid Prime Trilogy and Punch-Out!!
And if you mean Nintendo the publisher then there's many more, including Excitebots: Trick Racing.

But if you mean Nintendo EAD only, then I believe your list is correct and whole.

Edit: By the way, I know this topic is a thinly veiled shot at Nintendo and how they don't make enough games or whatever. But Infinity Ward released 0 games in 2008 and 1 in 2009, and yet no one is giving them any grief.

Well, I am sure the reason is that there is "Nintendo" printed on the Wii and almost everyone here bought it to play the well know Nintendo franchises. Like me, I initially bought it for Super Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3. The only reason not to switch to the other systems are the Nintendo games. And if they are missing, or lacking, well... glad to have some third party one to fill the gaps.

And Infinity Ward... released jack in 2009, Treyarch did all the work on CoD: Reflex !

In my opinion, the DS came out very strong this year. As for Wii, it seemed lackluster, with WSR, NSMBW, and MP Trilogy being the heavy hitters.

Stuffgamer1

@SeniorDingDong: He meant Infinity Ward's releases PERIOD, the one game this year being Modern Warfare 2. For another example, please see Naughty Dog and the Uncharted games. Two years between titles, no complaints.

Of course...Nintendo is the company providing the hardware, whereas Naughty Dog and Infinity Ward are just devs. Not really fair to compare the expectations between the two types of companies.

@StuffGgamer1: Oh well, I never thought he could have meant MW2 After all, this should be Wii related...

Well Mandoble likes to attack Nintendo, and in this cases he's attacking them for only developing 3 games for its own system.
But you look at the hard-hitting developers for other systems and come up with oh... Infinity Ward released one game. Yay.

@Stuffgamer1: Nintendo is providing the hardware and is really not obligated to release a bunch of games for it. Sony doesn't develop games. Microsoft doesn't develop games.

Microsoft owns these subsidiaries: 343, Big Park, Lionhead Studios, Rare Ltd., Turn 10 Studios, XBox Live Productions, and Wingnut Interactive.

360's First-Party games released in 2009 are as follows: Forza Motorsport 3.

Sony owns these subsidiaries: Naughty Dog, Santa Monica Studio, San Diego Studio, Sony Bend, Sony Online Entertainment, Incognito Entertainment, Zipper Interactive

PS3's first-party games released in 2009 are as follows: God of War Collection, MLB '09: The Show, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

So the competition is thus:
Nintendo Wii: 5 games
Sony PS3: 3 games
Microsoft XBox360: 1 game

whoops!

Edit: Also worth mentioning is that I've only counted games developed by the Nintendo teams (IRD, EAD, etc.) and Retro Studios. They also own Brownie Brown, Intelligent Systems, Monolith Soft, and Project Sora. I'll see if I can dig up some games by them as well.

I think Nintendo did a spectacular job of keeping people interested in the games that are coming out. They at least had a total of 8-12 titles come out this year alone. But why do people still complain about Nintendo "never giving the fans what they want"? Nintendo gave us what is essentially a fan based compilation of amazing games that's right up there with the Orange Box (Metroid Prime Trilogy), they revived a classic franchise that we've been begging to see again (Punch-Out!!), and they gave us a completely new Super Mario Bros. 2D console game (New Super Mario Bros. Wii [That's a bit obvious, huh? ]). Why are you people so obsessed with bashing Nintendo, saying that they have "died because if the Wii" when they really haven't?

NOTE: The above paragraph is meant for the people who bash the Wii often, not for most people on this site who have actual brains.

Exactly what I would say. Nintendo DOES give their fans what they want. AND they work harder at it to provide great creative gameplay instead of mindless shooters (cough) Halo (cough)

Well Mandoble likes to attack Nintendo

Quite wrong, I dont like and and dont enjoy attacking N, but as a customer I think this is a MUST. And yes, I mean Nintendo EAD.

For those that dont know, EAD is the Nintendo infrastructure for game developping composed by 5 groups (EAD1 ... EAD4 + EAD Tokyo). All groups are in Kioto except EAD Tokyo, and EAD Tokyo group alone has a crew of more than 60, and these are developping SMG2 for 2010.

Just for 2009 Wii games:
EAD Software group 1: Wii Fit Plus
EAD Software group 2: WSR
EAD Software group 3: Nothing
EAD Software group 4: NSMB
EAD Software Tokyo: Nothing.

If we Include DS, then just add TLOZ:STracks in 2009

And that's all, anything else is third party.

Mandoble

RandomWiiPlayer

I think that they had a bad year.

Wii Sports Resort
Punch Out!!!
New Super Mario Bros Wii
Wii Fit Plus.
Wii Motion Plus
Metroid Prime Trilogy

4 out of 6 things on the list interest me. While Sony did great this year.

  • Demon's Souls (Japan)
  • God of War Collection
  • InFamous
  • Killzone 2
  • MLB 09: The Show
  • Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time
  • Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
  • Buzz Quiz World
  • Singstar Motown
  • EyePet

See? Sony destroyed this year. Nintendo sucked in my opinion.

The Game.

Is it after 9PM EST? You should probably ignore the above post.

Vander

Uh, RandomWiiPlayer, SONY DIDN'T MAKE ALL THOSE GAMES!! Most (if not all) are 3rd party! Nintendo beat the crap out of Sony in the 1st party department! Why do you people come to Nintendo Life if you're going to talk garbage about Nintendo?

Not the best? yes. Bad year? Not at all

Granted, they have been better the past 2 years but even with the few games they released thy did a great job. New super mario bros wii, POkemon platinum, Wii sports resort were awesome games. The Wiiware seems to be maturing and having more interesting proposals this year and the next one. Not to mention the huge sales they had this year even with the low count of software.

See? Sony destroyed this year. Nintendo sucked in my opinion.

Tsk. Sony destroyed who? They are still in last place and their tiny momentum didn't lasted. Those games only sold to the same old customers while NSMBWii sold to current, new and even forgotten gamers.

2007 was good, 2008 great, 2009 just Ok but 2010 seems to be much better.

I won't talk about 3d parties. This year they showed how spoiled, hollow, narrowed and pathetic they are and don't deserve my sympathy. They had a huge chance to make great software for the wii base and instead we had dirty ports (Dead rising, mdoern warfare reflex), stupidified versions of quality games (dead space extraction) and quirky niche crap (Madworld, deadly creatures, crystal chronicles). Is incredible that they huge ego doesn't let them analyze that wii gamers like good well made games, not their "kazual" fallacies. They are now in red numbers and that's good, they deserved it. I won't cry on their graves.
