Zelda and Unchartes have nothing on Star Fox. It will be a tough race between Star Fox Zero and Star Fox Guard for GotY but I think Zero will win out (mostly because websites only like giving awards to retail games)
Other way around. Star Fox has nothing on Zelda or Uncharted. Star Fox is good but it's not in the same league simply because those games sell consoles, Star Fox wouldn't shift consoles.
Nope. You are the one that has it the other way around. Star Fox is 2016 GotY. We just need to figure out if it is Star Fox Zero or Star Fox Guard.
But in order for a game to get the Goty, doesn't the game require the scores to be 89 and above? With what Zero has earned, I doubt that it will be given the Arts and Science Hall of Fame.
Look, here's the thing.....this game should have been released as a launch title instead of now kinda like Kid Icarus Uprising because as of now, Its one of the few games that make use of both the gamepad and the screen and Nintendo needed something like that to convince third parties to make games for that system. Having 3D Land, Uprising and 64 3D alone made a lot of sales for the 3DS. But the Wii U didn't have any of that at all and if this game were released back then, it could've been reviewed better than what it is now.
@Socar: Yeah, we all know that the WiiU had needed a Star Fox Zero, Mario Maker and Art Academy at Launch to show the potential of the GamePad. Now it is too late for smart-arses. We enjoy our games and live with a great console that doesn't have the best sales numbers.

Well since the Video Game Industry doesn't really have a massive officially recognized award show, everyone comes out with a GotY. Spike, IGN, random people on YouTube. Everyone.
However Star Fox Zero and Star Fox Guard are the two contenders for GotY. No other game can come near them, mostly because they are not Star Fox games. So we have to decide which one gets it. Which game wins GotY.
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...
GOTY is a BS marketing term. There's no blanket award, and even if there was, it would be no real indicator of overall quality. As usual, Uncharted 4 will scoop up the awards this year because it's pretty and critics are easily distracted by shiny objects.
@DefHalan: Actually, isn't the interactive arts and science hall of fame an official one? I don't know if DICE is really into games but it does sound like a real deal for gaming.
@Socar: D.I.C.E. is trying to be a more legitimate award show by focusing on the people that actually make the products and less on the products but it is still far from Video Game's version of the Oscars or whatever.

Official what? There's no ruling government body over video games so all awards are only officially from the award giver with some of them taken more seriously than others.
30 minutes until the digital version goes live here. Going to download it overnight (since there was no pre-load available in EU) and play it after I get home from exam tomorrow.
@Ralizah: well said. After playing the main 3 Uncharted games recently I don't doubt the series' quality (maybe excluding the first because I really didn't like it) and it should be more of the same with 4, especially since ND have experience from The Last of Us under their belts as well as better hardware to work with. But all that really is beside the point when looking at 'Game of The Year', because over the last few years more than ever it is just a marketing tool and not something to be taken as gospel. Though there are rarely outrageously bad games that win it, The Witcher 3 was fantastic, it is still a problem that the 5/6 nominees can be guesstimated rather well already, and only part of it is to do with quality.
Uncharted 4, Dark Souls 3, Horizon Zero Dawn (it's all but delayed but I'm still hoping against all hope), Battlefield 5 and possibly Zelda U are what I'd guess for this year.
EDIT: of course I went and forgot Final Fantasy XV, the game that best encapsulates the point I'm making. Yes I think so-called game reviewers will eat that up. It is a very pretty game no doubt, at least the demo I played was.
@TheLastLugia: It's a bit of both I think. You're spot on with the nominees. However, Dark Souls 3 was received very well, and I have no doubt that the same will be true for Uncharted 4, Zelda U and Battlefield (and yes, I'm not counting on Horizon, unfortunately I think the delay is going to happen). It's predictable, but I also think it's well deserved, assuming that previous entries are a good indication of the quality of the upcoming titles.
I can't tell if ya'll are joking about this game of the year thing. I mean, you know this game isn't going to get a single nomination for any publication's game of the year awards, right?
