I'm all for Mario-related hats and maybe even weapons but I agree that anything beyond that probably shouldn't be here. As a new IP, Splatoon needs to shine in its own right; not because an existing IP is strongly apparent. The same applies to other popular Nintendo franchise like Zelda, Pokémon and Metroid.
I'm just tired of people screaming that Mario should be in the game, or Mario Sunshine DLC. No thanks. Keep Mario faaaar faaaaar away from this game. Unless it's like a hat or a mushroom shirt or something, keep Mario away.
I just want a small tease that a Sunshine sequel or remake is coming. Like maybe you find FLUDD laying behind a wall and he says, "I'm coming back..." Just something like that would be amazing.
Okay, now I'm getting disgusted. Now people are just finding anything to doubt this game and refuse to support a new IP.
I don't know what you're referring to, but negativity prior to a major release is part of the cycle. Prior to the MK8 release, there were all kind of hilarious "doom" articles and discussions.
Like how Polygon ''predicted'' Mario Kart 8 will only sell 1.26 million copies, that was hilarious, especially with those graphs.
(...and Polygon later removed the most infamous pie chart without any note to the readers.)
Personally, my favourite is NintendoWorldReport when it comes to negative, inaccurate "journalism" prior to the release of MK8:
It's kind of funny reading those kind of articles now. I guess the same phenomenon are bound to happen with many of the Splatoon discussions and articles that now occur during the pre-release.
@jariw Also, Mario Kart 8 is actually getting close to beating Super Circuit in sales despite the GBA being a much more popular console than Wii U. Provided support continues (e.g. battle arenas, 200cc mirror), I think it'll have no problem beating Super Circuit.
I remember when in game voice chat came to Counter-Strike and I remember muting it within 10 seconds of joining my first game.
It's abused way too much.
I find it to be a feature most don't use but everyone expects it. They expect that feature to be checked on the back of the box even though they won't use it most likely. Just like how companies will throw in a multiplayer mode to boost sales by having that check mark on the box.
It's funny seeing people defend the lack of voice chat. One of the reasons it's fun to have it is simply to remind yourself you're playing with people. Rather than sitting in silence with what might as well be bots on the screen. Never mind strategic elements, being able to talk to people is just fun and adds to the online experience.
In fact, they SHOULD just have a bot-only mode. Since everyone seems so terrified of the people on the internet. You'd get the same experience.
Also, the logic is just funny. "I don't use voice chat therefore nobody should ever use it ever, so glad it's not included. Less options is a great thing!"
I agree Voice Chat can add things to a game but not having voice chat doesn't always take away from the experience. Voice Chat is a double edge sword. With it your players can be more strategic but also more hazardous to each other. Without voice chat you remove the strategic element of it but you also create a more friendly gaming environment. People will defend both side and neither side is best.
If majority of players mute Voice Chat anyway then why put in time adding that system? If some players have cancelled their Online subscriptions for the other console because of the way players have used Voice Chat, and you want to avoid that type of behavior, then why include Voice Chat? there are reasons for not including Voice Chat and more features doesn't make a game better.
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...
That argument works both ways. Less features also doesn't make a game better. In the end, it's not a deal breaker for me (the deal breaker is everything else I've learned about the game. Hoping the direct sways me), but it just confounds me whenever I see people vehemently defend the lack of the option in a game that by its very nature seems like it should incorporate it in some way, even if between friends alone.
I think about it from a business perspective. Having voice chat adds a team strategy element that attracts an older demographic. Not having voice chat indicates to a lot of people that the competitive experience is incomplete

To go along with that, voice chat is generally full of annoying people and people talking about inappropriate things. By not having it you are able to appeal to people that have been burned by Voice Chat and stopped playing Online Multiplayer games, reaching that new audience. We hear all the time about people canceling their Xbox Live/PSN subscriptions because of how toxic the community is in a lot of Voice Chat enabled games. By not having Voice Chat they are allowing for more people to enjoy their product and possibly increase sales. There and benefits and minuses to both ways. I personally would love to just have friend chat but it isn't needed for me, still buying all the amiibo and the game day 1.
