@Kinan: but haven't you ever noticed some players that just own with the Rainmaker and hold steady long enough for almost the entire team to super jump back to them? There are clearly players who lead their team to victory, while others depends on someone else to run the Rainmaker.
I think you can contribute enough to see a higher win-to-loss ratio.

I've decided i'm going to be taking a few days away from this game. i'm coming off the back off a massive losing streak and it's not doing my mental health any good and almost flatlined my gamepad due to stress. Maybe i'm not good enough or the weapons/teams are unbalanced but as i'm only level 12 going against level 40+ people with full stats gear it kinda makes things impossible. Most of all some players seem to be able to hit you from the most improbable places.

@Moms-Meowth Lol, so classy and sarcastic. Love it."
There are some things that are simply waaaay beyond your control. In flounder rainmaker yesterday, I made a good run, and then got splatted. I went back out, and tried to ambush the rainmaker, but was ambushed myself, so I got splatted again. The RM had, by this point, made it up to the top, and was heading for our base. I looked at where my teammates were, and not one of them was heading back to our base. Not one. I managed to dive splat the rainmaker whilst it was two away, but we couldn't push back enough for a victory. (Cause none of them wanted to hold the rainmaker...)
THAT is bad teammates. If any of them had even turned around, and tried to go back, I might've let them off, but the fact none of them even turned around, let alone SJ back makes them bad teammates.
And whilst I agree the K/D ratio is often not a show of a good player, occasionally, you'll get an S rank who gets maybe 3 kills maximum to 13 splats. Even at my worst, I'm not that consistantly bad (and I rely on deaths to stealth jump back in for splat for splat). That's why I'm trying to earn my S rank under my own steam, so I don't become one of these really bad S rankers, who've obviously save-scummed or squadded up all the way from C or B rank. It makes you look silly, it makes your teammates angry when they lose loads of points, and It's really frustrating. I would even live with both an individual Squad and an individual Solo rank, if it stopped really awful players from getting to A+. Or make you able to win/lose points in squad, to dissuade S rankers from carrying C rankers all the way up.
But, I suppose we're all a little hypocritical really. Someone else is probably tutting at us and shaking their heads. Probably when I die so much. (But in fairness, I often distract some of the opposition so my team can make an assault to regain ground.) I think being self-reflective when so much is down to luck (And not being able to roll people over because reasons, despite rolling over them several times...), and in fast decisions in the heat of the moment, is largely pointless. You've just gotta try to come back stronger.
A puzzle solved is its own reward.

@Kinan: It's kinda funny, when I'm not a Slosher, I'm either the Dual Squelcher, Splattershot Pro, N-Zap, or Splash-O-Matic! lol You have a good taste in weapons.
I can use them all in any mode; though I usually don't use Sloshers for Splat Zones. If I were to pick between the O-Matic and N-Zap, I would probably pick the O-Matic (I think the Neo one) for the burst bombs. The O-Matic is also VERY precise, unlike the N-Zaps. That's just my opinion though, both are good weapons, and I use them all every now and then. But when it's not Splat Zones, I'm usually using my Sloshers.
@Kinan You're talking to a roller main here. It's not cheap, it's surprisingly hard to be a good roller, as you're outranged by everything... Before the update, I'd have agreed with you, as you literally chucked ink and hoped for the best, but now it seems the majority have switched back to shooters or blasters, with a fair few snipers and sloshers, and next to no splatlings or rollers (This is in higher up ranked.)
Have you tried the Tentatek Splattershot? It may be over-used, but it's definitely the jack of all trades. The custom Dual Squelcher might be worth a try, as it has beakons, which are pretty useful. I'd also say the Neo Splash is equally as good as the Splash, but with a greater range zone, due to splat bombs. Blasters are also pretty good offensive weapons, if you memorize the range they have, so you aren't firing at thin air.
Also, a fair few people assume Sniper = camping E-Liter Scope. Some of the faster charge chargers can be used to great effect as a roving weapon, but you really have to get your aim dead on.
Stealth Jump improves most set-ups, and Ninja Squid improves any ambush set-up, if you have the patience to grind for sub abilities that negate the negative effects of each. Quick Respawn is also worth a look, if you're running a Stealth jump set-up.
Also, @Blue_Blur, If I had a point for every time I saw a slosher on Splat Zones, I'd be at S Rank by now. any reason you don't use it?
@TheXReturns: I totally agree with your longer post about luck and the lack of control!
I also wonder why @Blue_Blur wouldn't use Sloshers for SZ- I thought it would be a great weapon to fill in the zones quickly? @ELI-ASH: Yeah I had a similar experience with both Zappers, they were one of the first weapons that I tried after the Splattershots and Aerosprays. @Kinan: I totally agree on what you wrote about rollers and (Luna) Blasters, I wouldn't want to play with those either. The Splash-o-matic was actually the first weapon that I switched to after a long time of playing with the Aerospray, because of their similarities. But I like the Zappers more, because they offer much more range. I was a close-range player for a long time, but now after getting really used to the Dual Squelcher and Splattershot Pro, it's hard to go back for me. So the Zapper is a much better compromise (apart from the Splattershot) for me than the Splash-o-matic.
i try not super jump at all sometimes. i expect my team to jump so i like to serve as the beacon. Taking the long route also improves my positioning rather a quick jump into my death
About the teammates, I often get upset with them because I can't control them, and with only 2 (limited) communication pings there's only so much you can do to influence them. Obviously everyone has their own style though, so you have to learn to play to your teammates' strengths and weaknesses. Eg, you can win matches in Rainmaker by just always carrying the rainmaker if the rest of your team is better at splating than you. It's weird because you can get so much better at the game just by understanding the flow of battle and how to control the objective...and then when you also get the mechanical skill you will just destroy in matches.
On another note,
I'm constantly watching for things I'm doing wrong but that being said there are always things you just won't catch with your own eye, even if you're analyzing yourself furiously.

@TheXReturns: I kinda depends on the stage, but I find it hard to take the zone with a slosher. Once it's yours, it's pretty easy to defend using a slosher, but I still use mostly use the Dual or Pro for SZ. I've been mostly using the Tri-Slosher for a while, now I'm switching between the two. I might try using the regular slosher with longer range for SZ, I'll give it another go!
@TheXReturns: I'm not nearly dedicated enough to do that : p I get the concept of a lot of 'em, and for me that's enough. But yeah, looking for some sneakers with stealth jump. Just haven't come across any yet, neither in the plaza nor in the shops yet. But it's something I wanted to try after getting splatted far too many times because they saw me coming.
It does really help to play for a longer, consistent period of time to further "learn" other weapons, because it enriches your gaming experience, but you can still come back to that later.
Also, the more you play, the more the people on your plaza change, so you could get the desired item more quickly.
I also wanted to use Stealth jump for the same reasons as you do, but eventuall I didn't. Not only because I realized that I'd rather keep Ink Resistance (which I recently dropped for some matches), but because I realized that the best way to tackle that problem is being more careful and super-jumping a bit less. It takes some match experience, but you actually can get better at assessing the situation and instead choosing not to jump sometimes, or sometimes you know for sure that the super-jump won't end deadly. But of course you still can get jump-splatted. But more than before, I sometimes was able to rescue myself or at least take down the enemy with me (having a weapon with high damage helps a bit). @ELI-ASH: Yeah also, the beacons! If I have a reliable beacon-placer in my team or place beacons myself, I use super-jump a lot. Because it's usually the same (safe) spots where you jump to, so the danger of getting splatted is noticeably lower. Of course, this requires you or the other player to place the beacons intelligently, because the other team can see them on the map, too.
Soo, in roughly four hours there will be a new map (#14). Can't wait to try it out.
@Kinan: Absolutely, I still don't play with rollers and blasters and don't even own all of them. I only meant the shooters, not the one-shot-killers.
There are at least three shoes with Stealth Jump, but you should have at least one main Quick Superjump or three sub Quick Superjump slots somewhere in your equipment.
My GOTY? Legend Of Zelda: Splat of the child. Ah no, I meant LoZ: Breath of the SPLATOOOON!
@Kinan: Nope, there isn't (apart from ordering from Spyke and occasionally having luck, of course).
But the special probabilities of every brand make it easier to get two or three of the same sub ability.
