Sigh... I don't know what to do, guys. my flash drive with Splatoon data is acting up (it's not allowing Splatoon to load)... I've now realized that all my Splatoon save data is on the flash drive is on the verge of never working again (I own the disc version of Splatoon, so no worries about that one). To make matters worse, the Splatoon data's trapped in the flash drive: Yes, I can't move nor copy the data to my Wii U's storage drive (at the end of the process the system always brings up some stupid error message).
I already lost my Pikmin 3 data to a hard drive that we returned because we thought it was faulty, and now it seems my Splatoon data - shirts, guns, data, everything - is going to get the same treatment.
Ugh....
I remember that happening to me with Golden Sun, what I did was delete the game itself but moved the save data to the system after deleting the game and then redownloaded the game on the eshop. I was able to keep the data, so you can probably try that if you got no other options but of course downloading a retail game takes longer than a VC game.
I own the disc version, so it's only the save data that's in the flash drive. Of course, if I delete that, I'm basically saying I just brought a brand new copy of Splatoon. X(
UGH... I just tried copying another game's save data to the Wii U storage drive, and it worked. Lemme guess... my Splatoon's save data magically corrupted itself overnight or something?! I'm really screwed.
@VeeFlamesNL: Eww, that's not pretty. Is everything saved to the console, or is some of it linked to your NNID?
Everything is saved in the save file. It's really easy, just go to data mangement in settings and copy the save data (click first on Splatoon and choose copy when you see the game and save files separately). Redownloading the game files shouldn't take long, it's only 2,2GB. Nothing unpretty about that. ^^
EDIT: Damn, didn't see your last post. That's really unfortunate, man! I don't know, maybe there is a WIndows/Linux tool that can read the Wii U format and allows you to rescue your data?
That worries me a bit, I got everything on a flash drive (and so far no problems) and if I would someday lose my Splatoon save data, I would go crazy!
I got a spare USB stick, I think I'll just backup the most important stuff on it right now.
@Nicolai: All the save data (save data linked to NNIDs, shared data, and update data) is on the flash drive... every single bit of it. I can't move/copy it to the Wii U's storage drive for some reason...
This is so depressing....

EXCEPT...
1. I own the disc version of Splatoon, so it's only the save data that's the problem here.
2. As I've said, the system gives me an error message when I try to either move or copy the save data to the Wii U's storage drive.
@VeeFlamesNL: Yeah I just saw it after making the post, so I edited it. But it seems like the NL forums don't know the [strike] or [s] command.
Anyway, don't give up! I just googled and found this: https://www.reddit.com/r/wiiu/comments/13xby9/messing_around_...
Since it uses terminal, it should also work with Linux, not only Mac OS. If you don't have Linux installed, you can simply download a CD image of Ubuntu and burn it onto a CD/DVD. Then boot from that disc (maybe you have to set your BIOS to boot from discs, but usually it's set that way by default), wait until Ubuntu is loaded and open the terminal.
Both state that it worked, they had similar problems (damaged save data).
Of course no one knows if a backup/copy of your save data will be working eventually, since the files could really be corrupted. But often it is possible to copy such data and reuse it, so give it a try.
Oh and have you maybe tried to copy the save data from your flash memory to another stick (instead of copying it into the internal memory)? Who knows, maybe your internal memory also is malfunctioning.
@shani: Huh. I could try copying/moving it to another flash stick... lemme try that.
Wow... the progress bar actually reached the very end, but the error message still popped up. Ugh... so much for getting my hopes too high...
Well, I'm going to see that link you gave me. Thanks for your help.
@VeeFlamesNL: No problem, I really hope you find a solution! I can feel for you, I would be devastated if that happened to me. You can also PM me on Miiverse if you should need additional help with the techy part. ^^
And if you shouldn't find a solution, make sure to contact the Nintendo support. Maybe they can help, too.
I'm copying my save data right now...
To everyone else: I'll eat something and then I'm ready for a few matches.
