Splatfest is a 24h festival, where you select a "team" (such as "Dogs" or "Cats") to compete for. For 24 hours, all you can play online is Turf War in night mode. When you win matches, you'll awarded special Splatfest score points. If you get a high enough score points, you'll get lots of Super Sea Snails that you can use at Spyke in the end. The team members that ultimately win the Splatfest get an extra reward as well.
I feel like I'm beating a dead horse. I'm moving on. No point in arguing anymore.
I feel like we are disagreeing about the way the day is generally celebrated which is leading to the disagreement on how the Holiday would affect Splatfest. But you are correct, no point n arguing anymore.

I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

If I was only ever able to have Monster Hunter and EO games in the future, I would be a happy man.

To get my body ready for Splatfest, I decided to change what my NL avatar wears to support the team. So I think you guys know who I'll be supporting on July 4th.
The most traveled holidays are Thanksgiving and Christmas. There will be more businesses closed on July 4th than a normal Saturday which will add to the amount of people that can play the game. Within a 24 hour span if you do not have time to play Splatoon for 30 minutes then I feel like you should probably give yourself a break. This is an in game event that is completely optional and other Splatfest events will be scheduled in the future. It is ok to miss 1. Heck, it is ok to never participate in them. So what is the big deal?
I know the conversation has ended, but I have a lot of counterarguments here:
1) I was hoping to spend hours playing splatfest, not 30 minutes. It's a nation-wide team battle, and I'd like to contribute to Team Cats as much as I can.
2) This is the FIRST Splatfest. I want to remember this one.
3) If you're excited about something, of course you'd want to participate in it. Why wouldn't you?
And what is it with people who argue with people who are disappointed that they shouldn't be disappointed? If I'm excited about something and some problem comes along, there's nothing wrong with feeling let down. Why say "it isn't a big deal" if it obviously meant something to him or her?

Now only if certain NLifers could apply this someplace else....
What is so bad about a July 4th event for US in a game? Some people go out and celebrate but a lot of people will be home and people that may not normally have the day off might have it off. I think it is a great idea, I am sorry if you already made plans on that date but they aren't basing this around your personal schedule.
It's a holiday that involves heavy amounts of travel around the U.S.
This date is inconsiderate to the millions of Americans who travel and celebrate the fourth of July every year.
I understand people celebrate the holiday, even I do, but it isn't any different than an MMO holding a holiday event. If anything won't more people be able to play an event on July 4th than say an event on Christmas day?
It's not a holiday event, though. Literally any Saturday before or after the 4th would have been preferable for millions of people. Any date is going to be inconvenient for some people, but they've managed to put it on the most inconvenient date possible for millions of Americans.
I'm not saying there is a universally preferable date, but there are a few dates that come close to being universally unpreferable for many Americans. The 4th of July is one of those dates.
Currently Playing: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)
I know we said we were going to stop arguing but I just want to clear up that July 4th is both convenient and inconvenient. There are people that might be busy and there are people who are going to be more free. It is no different than any other Saturday where you would spend time with family or do an event. The Splatfest not being a holiday event and just an event happening on a holiday actually helps this point. You won't have to wait for the next July 4th to participate in this event, you just need to wait for the next Splatfest. Just wanted to clear that up, cause it seemed as if people weren't understanding.

...well I certainly hope they make some tweaks before the big event. This evening was about the worst I've experienced (getting disconnected almost every other game, despite having a fairly fast and stable connection!).
Oh well, can't wait to get my dog shirt back though.
It's unfortunate that the Splatfest is on the fourth of July. I most likely won't be able to play that day. Even if I can, it probably wouldn't be until nighttime when I'm not even sure if I'd want to play.

Well, that's pretty great. They're nerfing some of the most overpowered and overused specials. Maybe people won't complain as much, but now they need to nerf some weapons (I'm looking at you Gals and Aerosprays). Then maybe people can try some more diverse weapons.
Edit: Although I will say that if they nerf the Kraken hard enough, it will in turn hinder the Krak-On Roller. So it's killing two birds with one stone.
Does anyone know what's special about the Carbon Roller. Does it have a unique feature?
Edit: Well it appears the Carbon Roller is a much faster variant of a normal roller. That does sound really overpowered, but they'll hopefully have some way of properly balancing it.

Just because people are lazy and overuse the easy-to-use weapons doesn't mean they are OP.

Very true. I just think that by nerfing them a bit they could encourage some more diversity in the weapons people use in the game (of course that's just my personal take on things)
