I am not saying July 4th is the best day to have it, but I don't understand the complaints. It is a video game event and if you can make it then great, if not then oh well. Didn't they delay it because of server issues? Maybe they only delayed it as much as they had to because they have some others coming up that they didn't want to move. It just seems like it is a small annoyance at most but people are treating it like it is the dumbest thing Nintendo has ever done. I think the Nintendo hate is still strong from E3 (which I still don't fully understand) and people are latching onto and getting upset with something else that Nintendo is doing just because it is Nintendo. It isn't a big deal, there will be another event at some point, so if you miss this one just catch the next one if you can.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.

It is in fact a big deal. I said when they cancelled the first one they had better not reschedule to the 4th of July and look what they did.

This affects my enjoyment of the game. I want to participate and they should know better that people have plans that weekend and won't be able to join in on the fun. My hate isn't stemming from E3 either, this is just another dumb move in a long line of dumb moves by them.

I can understand the day part with all the outdoor sun activities and the evening part with the fireworks, but what about the early morning/ late night part of playing Splatfest before leaving and/or coming back home? Not trying to defend the date, just trying to come up with possible work-a-rounds to play a few sessions. Also weather may play a factor, they predict a 40% chance rain in my area starting 1 p.m so who knows what the day may bring.

A dying animal struggles, thrashes and howls in protest as its life torn from it. To see this in action, watch Animal Planet. The same thing happens when a video game is or isn't released. To see this in action, stay here.

Some People have plans any weekend. Last weekend I visited some family that was moving away and next weekend I hope to go to Disneyland. People have plans and it is imposssible for them to schedule this on a day that everyone can join in on the fun. Scheduling it on a holiday comes with benefits as well as draw backs. People are going to be visiting family, some people will take their Wii Us with them and show Splatoon off to others. Them throwing an event while that is happening could help boost sales. I don't think throwing the event on July 4th is bad or good. It is a day and no matter what you are doing that day, doesn't change the fact that others will be able to enjoy it. I may not be able to participate even, but that doesn't mean I am going to get mad at Nintendo, just means I will try to make the next one or play for a little before/after I leave.

Well Tech, I'll pick up your slack. This is a holiday weekend and I have NO plans! I will be happily monopolizing the TV.

Any weekends fine but why choose the one weekend where it's known that people travel and spend all day outside. Its irresponsible for them to even consider the day.

Let the hate flow through you. Don't think about anyone else and focus only on yourself. Focus on the pain cause by Nintendo having an event on a holiday. Let the dark side consume you.

What is so bad about a July 4th event for US in a game? Some people go out and celebrate but a lot of people will be home and people that may not normally have the day off might have it off. I think it is a great idea, I am sorry if you already made plans on that date but they aren't basing this around your personal schedule.

It's a holiday that involves heavy amounts of travel around the U.S.

This date is inconsiderate to the millions of Americans who travel and celebrate the fourth of July every year.

I understand people celebrate the holiday, even I do, but it isn't any different than an MMO holding a holiday event. If anything won't more people be able to play an event on July 4th than say an event on Christmas day?

It's the one holiday out of the whole year where millions of family and friends get togther to have cook outs and swim and play catch outside. Its the biggest outside holiday of the year for US. All states have warm weather. There is not a worse day they could pick period. Sure some people will stay home but now instead of getting hours upon hours of gaming I'll be lucky to get a few games in.

Christmas actually makes more sense as it's a cold inside holiday for much of the country.

Not to mention it's on a Saturday this year. So everyone pretty much has the day off anyway. People (myself included) have made plans to camp, travel to family, host/go to a cookout and all kinds of activities. It is a bad weekend to have picked.

The problem with splatfest being on 4th of July is that it's a 24 hour event. If it was week long then you snooze you lose. Events for MMOs tend to last longer than one day unless they are less significant, and also, ahem, they are practically guaranteed to happen next year at the same exact time. We have no idea when the next splatfest will be. If I knew when the next one was I wouldn't care about this one, but for all I know it won't be until Christmas.

I don't mind the date being on July 4th, but that's probably because I'm Mexican, and my family doesn't really celebrate Independence Day.

Do you realize that not very many buisnesses are even closed on that day. Most people that have to normally work still have to on that day. A lot of the others are spending time away from their homes and not even inside unless it's raining. You treat it like it's any other day when in fact it could very well be the most traveled holiday for all I know.

The most traveled holidays are Thanksgiving and Christmas. There will be more businesses closed on July 4th than a normal Saturday which will add to the amount of people that can play the game. Within a 24 hour span if you do not have time to play Splatoon for 30 minutes then I feel like you should probably give yourself a break. This is an in game event that is completely optional and other Splatfest events will be scheduled in the future. It is ok to miss 1. Heck, it is ok to never participate in them. So what is the big deal?
