Mines work wonders against say rollers and in choke points. The ramps in Arowana Mall are a good example they are basically unavoidable unless someone in higher ground happen to see it.

I always like using the chargers (occasionally the blaster) so I always shoot in front of me, and always reveal them so it's rare I'm ever surprised by them (and when I'm surprised, I usually manage to escape). Although I can see why they are very effective against rollers, since they never spray in front of themselves and tend to rush in.

I've seen people place mines on the top of the ramps too, but in my experiences the other team usually just reveals them by preemptively spraying the top area. I don't know, I just really haven't had the best experience with mines, but I can see how they would be useful.

I find the best way to use mines is to put them just around corners, so that they can't be seen until it's too late. Having placed the mine you can then bait an opponent to chase you over the mine (fire a couple of shots then run around the corner).

If you're doing a spot of sniping (with a charger or otherwise) then you can put a mine a few yards behind you to give you a warning "beep beep beep" that an enemy is approaching.

If I'm on top of the tower in the middle of the skatepark I like to put a mine under myself. If an enemy climbs up and joins me then - unless they're right in front of my sights - I'll jump off and let the mine do its job. At the very least a mine helps to keep the enemy off the tower whether my team is up there or not.

how do you upgrade weapons? what are the orange balls you collect for in the single player campaign?

The orange balls in the Single Player Campaign let you upgrade your defence, ink storage and things like that when you press '+' in Octo Valley. This only upgrades things in the Single Player Campaign, I think.

I'm not sure about question 1.

In single player look at the Game pad screen, there's a spot on it that's says "upgrade" or something. Touch that, then spend your salmon eggs. I recommend option 1, rate of fire. I couldn't beat the final boss until I got it Maxed out. The 2 bombs at the end can't be purchased until later, maybe after world 3.

And you don't really upgrade weapons in multiplayer, just buy new ones. The little helper badges turn on as you play. I recommend using the free beginner gun to get points and level up, then buy the Aerosprayar RG after beating world 3 in single player.

Zerodactly I befriended you on Wii U.

Anybody know a "Ferny" aka "MrEevee"? S/He sent me a friend request but I don't usually say yes to people I don't know. Had some bad experiences on PS3.

After using the new splater-o-matich from the other night I'm back to the aerospray RG, I think it's better for me. And mine > bomb. Though I did like the multinomb special better than inkstrike, but not by a lot.

Are the mines really that good? I always preferred the seakers and bombs, but if they really are better, maybe I should give them another shot.

BTW, the Nintendo Championships at E3 starts in 1 hour. Splatoon is one of the games and I think it's likely that that we will see something not yet available (new stage or a custom match from the August update, or something similar). I'm going to watch, even though it's in the middle of the night here.

Was using the Splattershot JR but started using the N Zap but I'm struggling with the accuracy, I am starting to think I might just be the problem xD

Yeah. The main way to beat a roller is to keep a distance from it (especially dynamo rollers), and bombard them with shots or bomb. The Jr can easily handle the roller because its bombs and the almighty Bubbler. It just takes a while to get use to it, but once you get the hang of it normal rollers aren't as big as a problem.

Man, that Championship was super fun. I'm kind of disappointed that no new Splatoon content was shown, but they're probably saving it for E3. Super Mario Maker pretty much stole the show for me though, but cheers to future reveals of Splatoon at E3.

Yesterday, while I was playing ranked battle, I noticed something rather odd. The lobby filled up with eight level 14-20 players, but when the match was about to start, I noticed the Port Mackerel flyover/intro animation was significantly longer than usual. When the game eventually displayed the teams, our team had 3 players and the other team had only 2.

Have any of you guys had similar experiences with Splatoon, or is this just a freak occurrence?

I've noticed that, and I've seen it at the start of MK8 online as well. I think it's the handshake sequence online to all connected players. If some players' connection can't be reached, they timeout and get a disconnect before the match.

My son had a one on one in ranked battle once. Must of booted the other 6.

I've had 2 against 1 before. Needless to say, it was a landslide.

I've had the game just remain stuck at the lobby waiting for more players to join when ALL of them were already listed and ready to play.. "waiting for more players"... uh..um... all players are present, start the flippin match.. Nope, it timed out stating not enough players joined. Weird, yet amusing. Tried joining a ranked game again 2 seconds later and went off without a hitch.

I've heard a lot of discussion over this, so I was wondering, which is better: motion controls or normal controls.

Motion by far. Not even close. I feel bad for those that just can't get use to it. They probably get owned online.

I stsrted playing yesterday and I'm enjoying it a lot! Still have to get used to the controls and such but I'm getting the hang of it.

Mines seemed useless to me in turf war, but in splat zone its a whole different game. There are a couple of obvious spots - the top middle in spray park, warehouse and kelp dome, top of the side walls in arrowmall and urchin underpass, main entrance to the splat zone in oilrig, just outside the area in port. Of course that really only works if your team is winning, not very helpful if you're loosing, but that's where the inkstike comes in handy. Swim into the inkstrike while the other team is either running away or being splatted, then stand your ground and plant mines. (Of course I'm only level 17 and rank C+ so there is probably much better advice out there than mine, but it's what works for me.)

To me are quite usefull, if I catch a roller coming in the gamepad, I put one on his way, and usually he dies, or if somebody is chasing me, I left a surprise behind me.
