Working fine now. Maybe Splatfest was messing up my end last night or more early this morning. I should've just played single player instead of messing with my connection for 2 hours last night.

Once in a while the matches lag out for me, but they're mostly smooth as butter.
And like Zero said, that lag is usually manifested in ink not showing up when it should, leading to strange situations like the Kraken floundering through enemy ink until its own ink trail registers.

Oh wow, the Kraken can actually get stuck in someones else ink. Never seen that before, but I don't play the game as often as I should, so that may be why.
My matches really only get laggy when people start dropping out.
Wait, so when a Splatfest is going on, you can't play a normal game? That sucks.
How could normal online be able to play during the Splatfest, since the Plaza is redesigned and everything is taking place at night? Should Splatfest players see online matches in night mode and non-Splatfest players in day mode?
Well that was kind of rude, for you, you're usually very pleasant and understanding and extremely helpful.
I don't think any of us have a very good understanding of what "Splatfest" is. Most of us have probably seen only 1 video in japanese and some footage in an ND way back when that had so much in it, "Splatfest" was not a priority. Add to that the fact the game has since release day been worldwide - as us less skilled players know all to well when matched with the japanese players - I can usually tell which team is going to win by seeing which has the most names I can't read - it's not surprising that we would have more questions than answers about what is going on and not fully understanding Splatfest's implications and ramifications.
As for Inkopolis being "at night", I don't know what that would have to do w/ anything. Once Callie and Marie are done talking I just look down at my Gamepad and hit the button for where I want to go, they did a really good job w/ the Gamepad layout, my inkling doesn't budge from it's spot. Unless I'm looking for @WanderingPB new hat. So couldn't they just have a new colorful box labeled "Spaltfest" above the 3 boxes for Ranked, Normal and Friends in the lobby? Can't tell if it's day or night in there so what's going on in Inkoplis doesn't really matter. If they can add a 3rd option box for "Ranked" to the 2 for normal and friends why not a 4th that plays at night? Seems simple enough. So my answer to your obviously rhetorical question is yes.
With apologies, the thread really wouldn't be the same w/o you.
Someday we'll find it
The rainbow connection
The lovers, the dreamers and me
Oh wow, the Kraken can actually get stuck in someones else ink.
I belive the point the other person was trying to make is that the Kraken normally woudln't get stuck in the other teams colored ink b/c the Kraken makes it's own ink w/ it's body while it moves so it can go where ever it wants. But due to game lag the ink coming out of the Kraken's body doesn't show up like it should right away so the Kraken does get stuck while it waits for the game to catch up. The Kraken getting stuck is a laggy game glitch, it shouldn't normally happen.

That's what I mean. There should at least be an option to play normally - especially since Splatfests aren't global.
I will update this when Half Life 3 arrives. [Started 17/11/2015]

I think Nintendo are trying to sell us an experience.
I never drive faster than I can see. Besides, it's all in the reflexes.

Oh no, I actually knew that it was a lag in the game, but I was just surprised that the Kraken could actually get stuck. I always just assumed that the Kraken was invincible, so it surprised me a bit. Sorry for not being more specific.
Why does everyone freak out when they see Japanese players?? I've seen just as many great western players as I've seen Japanese players. I've been in rooms with all Japanese players and never left. I've seen very few great Japanese players tbh. Overall I can hold my own against a majority of them!

> Play like a god

This. Exactly.
And @rjejr and @Inkling, it wasn't my intention to be rude. I apologize. My question was genuine, as I was curious to how this would be solved mixing the night experience with the normal day settings outside the Splatfest.
Perhaps there was some confusion about the time the Japanese Splatfest started, that other regions couldn't continue to play as normal? That was caused by server issues at Nintendo, at the time the Japanese Splatfest started. Nintendo fixed it and apologized:
Here's a quick summary of how the Splatfest works:
The regions that don't take part in the Splatfest play Splatoon online as normal.
The Splatfest takes part at night (both the Plaza and during gameplay) and goes on for 24 hours.
The Splatfest has new music (during gameplay as well)
A couple of days before the Splatfest, the preparations of the Plaza begins (trucks appear, a stage is built, etc).
After voting for a Splatfest team, the player gets a temporary Splatfest tee, that can be upgraded before the Splatfest through normal online play). It's removed from the gear after the Splatfest.
A player can win up to 12 Super Sea Snails during a Splatfest, which is equivalent to 360,000 (30,000*12) coins to Spyke. 184 EXP or more is required for 12 Super Sea Snails.
A win gives +3 EXP, 400 points or more gives +2 EXP.

That's one of the biggest stereotypes in gaming that may have been true 20 years ago but is nonsense now that gaming is mainstream in western culture. I too have the stereotype wired in my brain, whenever I would see Japanese players I'd go "Yeah I'm dead." In hindsight it was mostly because they were already level 20 on launch day and had access to better weapons. Now I see no difference between Japanese and western players. And the two occasions on which I've had a team mate in ranked mode that only painted turf... Japanese.
Hopefully most Splatfests aren't one sided, most people voted rice for the Japanese one so I can rarely find a match... (It is midnight there right now though)
Ugh.. After several matches with players who have no idea how to play the game, I give up. It's not that I'm the best, but when I rank the highest after each match and some have difficulty getting even 100 points, I know that I'm not the problem when we loose each time. Also, I get that some people still think that painting walls count, but I can assure you, trying to paint the sky does NOTHING!
