Tried ranked battles and they're probably too hard for me at the moment. Everybody seems to be level-20 on it and I really felt overwhelmed sometimes. I had put together a strategy that works very well for me in turf wars, but it doesn't apply in ranked battles so I have to come up with something new - the weapon I usually use in TF is absolutely worthless in RB. The thing I really like about this mode is that if you don't play well enough then your team is going to lose no matter what, because you're battling for a such a small piece of stage that you don't have the luxury to diverge.
It's good fun but I'll probably stick with TF until I get to level-20 and unlock the three star equipment and new weapons.

Three star equipment seems to be very important for rank battles. I also think that the sniper weapons are important for this mode (though i admittedly am terrible with them). The strategy is totally different. I do wish they had voice chat for the ranked modes (or some way to alert other players of how to play). I have teammates that keep trying to paint territory rather than capture the splat zone and it is really annoying. Hopefully people figure these modes out because I am having a hard time ranking up due to people not knowing what they are doing.

It's maybe they are trying to paint things to active their inkstrike, in zones it's much harder to get the special going plus if it's on one of the enemy's routes to the zone it makes it harder for them to get to there. I thought the same thing until I realised what they were actually doing.

So I played through the main single player campaign and collected all the sea scrolls, and I've gotta say, it was glorious. A few things I wanna point out:

One of the scrolls has a musical score on it. Now if you're a music person like me, you probably tried to work out the melody to see if you recognized it, or if you aren't, maybe you're just good with patterns and realized the scrolls are all relevant to something in the game, itself. Either way, the song on the musical score is actually the squid sisters song from the final phase of the DJ Octavio fight. In fact, every scroll does a little bit more to explain the lore of the game, and it's absolutely amazing how many of the existing characters have a back story somewhere in the scrolls. (Cap'n Cuttlefish being the first captain of the Squidbeak Splatoon, Shelldon from Ammo Knights being in the first Squidbeak Splatoon, Judd being 10,000+ years old from back before the ocean wiped out human life. Amazing stuff.)

Also, anyone notice who made this game? I know you have. A lot of people were worried because this team was known for their "by-the-book" entries like Super Mario 3D Land/World and New Super Mario Bros 2. But this is what happens when Nintendo drops the chains and lets their new guard have total creative freedom of a project, and it's honestly one of the most amazing things I've seen as of late from a gameplay perspective. I really hope these guys get to do more and more as time goes on and branch out with their own new IPs to take the spotlight and Splatoon is just the start of that.

A nifty calendar (Updated 9/13/15)
The UGXloggery ... really needs an update.

If you get a communication error during a ranked battle does it effect your rank? That's happened to me 3 times now.

I think so. I got one during a match, and I'm pretty sure it lowered it as if I had lost. Not 100% sure though.

Finished the single player mode today, and I have to say I'm really impressed. Not only was the final boss fight genuinely amazing, but the fact that there was actually lore behind it as well! I wasn't expecting there to be any underlying story to the game, but it was nice to see some thought being put into the story. Anyway, now back to online matches!

Yes, I like bears.

Undead_terror

I say my best match so far on turf war is when the enemy team only had 4.5% and I got 13 kills or more!, I also got a few matches in rank that the enemy did not stop our timer at all and I got a bunch of kills...would be nice if stuff like this happened more often with me.

Well That stability allowed one of my Miiverse friends to finally get some games in. He got communication error every time before that.

Thank god, every so often I would just get horrid lag for zero reasons whatsoever, not to mention getting dropped midgame and losing rating.

Glad nintendo keeps up on these things

I really want to like splat zones, but I guess I'm just too low a level for it. (level 10 btw) I do terrible! What non-charger weapon do you guys recommend to use in that mode? Because I suck at sniping lol.

I absolutely LOVE Splatoon but I despise how the ranking system works, and wish there were more personal stats kept for you.

It actually resolves some bugs as well, one of them being an exploit with Spyke and Judd where you could get a free slot added to a weapon or free re-roll. Out of bounds glitch might be fixed as well.
EDIT: Plus Inkopolis seems to now run in 60fps like the rest of the game. Before it was 30.

Oh I thought I still had some money despite spending it on some slots, don't know how I did that though. Kind of wish I didn't update yet...

Splatoon has been so much fun... I just wish the minimap was on the TV screen. TW and RB are very fast-paced games; every second matters and so much time is lost in looking away from the TV to the gamepad to see the map. If it were on-screen and I could see it with my peripheral vision at all times, I know I would be much more successful than I already am.

Well you wouldn't be able to take advantage of it by avoiding the update. It basically required buying the slot from Spyke than talking to Judd to get your bonus coins for obtaining the various levels. Judd would reset your money back to what it was before purchase (plus whatever he gave you). So you actually would have to play matches to take advantage of it to build up for the various tiers of "hawtness". This also made it so really you could at most take advantage of it 3 times per 4 hour rotation.

Oh so that's how it worked. I did talk to Judd after getting some new slots, I noticed my money went back to what I had before spending it when I opened up Miiverse at least I saved a decent amount of money with it though.

I have experienced some roller players on Splat Zones using it brilliantly (using a heavy-ink roller throwing lots of ink into the splat zone, hiding on enemy side attacking multiple enemies from the back, etc). A weapon like the .52 seems to be good as well as an allround-splat-zones-weapon, since it paints with force and has pretty good range. I get the impression that the special is of more importance to splat zones as well.

Btw, the current map rotation has 2 maps with multiple zones in Splat Zones (Port Mackerel and Blackbelly Skatepark). Huge difference to the 1-zone battle maps!

I've been playing Splat Zones for the last hour and it's been fantastic.I didn't really enjoy what I played yesterday, especially Salt Spray Rig but those maps with 2 zones are perfect for some great tactical battles.I had 1 match we were winning 59 v 63 when the clock reached zero and then a few seconds of extra time,I was sure we had won but Judd declared them the winner by 1 point. They must have secured the Splat Zones right on zero for those few seconds of extra time.Is it possible to tie a match in Splat Zones or does the amount of ground covered decide it?
