Topic: Splatoon - OT

Just played Battle Dojo for the first time and I love it. 1 on 1 Battles, Ninja Attacks, and winning last minute by one balloon.

I've been trying to figure out if the writing/spoken language are based off of anything, but I am not sure if it is yet. For spoken it is kind of difficult to know if it is or not, but sometimes some words sound like English to me although I also wonder if it could be Japanese (I haven't really heard anything though).
For the writing, the Splatoon research lab flags looked to be based off of English, but I haven't really seen anything else that matches it. I've also seen some signs in the first boss area that look like Japanese stop signs and the letters even look similar to the words stop in Japanese.

I'm pretty sure it's complete nonsense. There seem to be several different ''alphabets'', at least three from what I remember. When they showed parts of the hidden scrolls during the single player trailer last year I took a quick look at it, at least one writing system has more than 60 characters. So unless it's some convoluted system that translates one letter/character into different characters in the Splatoon language, I wouldn't read much into it at all. And even if that's the case, it would be a pain in the arse to decipher, because you're definitely going to need more than a simple conversion table if that's the case.

Got up to C+, that's enough for a bit, the mode is pretty crazy, you rank up a lot better in this then turf war which is nice, if you loose you get no XP and you loose a bit of points but thankfully so far you don't loose what your earned right away. C- you get 20 points, C you get 15, in both you just loose 10 points if you fail, didn't see what you get with C+. The highest rank I saw so far was a B-.

The room is with people around your own rank. Tip: if you rank up, leave the current lobby and rejoin.

You can attempt to decipher the back of the amiibo box in-game by comparing it to the English or Japanese text of the real packaging if you want. https://miiverse.nintendo.net/posts/AYMHAAACAAADVHkI0MC7Rw. I'm not sure if there's actually any real pattern though as can be seen by comparing the "GET GEAR" text of the English box (It's "GEAR GET" on the Japanese one).

@multicoloredyoshi it looks to more closely resemble the Japanese one, although comparing some of the symbols to Japanese, they don't completely match up so I'm guessing it may be gibberish. Also I may try that out of bounds glitch tomorrow to get a closer look at that box.

Also was the zapper and new map already in the game? I don't recall getting any update when I started the game up to play Splatoon. I wonder if there is still more we have to wait for Nintendo to "unlock" for us or if we will get an update for new features.

There's no update, Nintendo just unlocked some on disc content.

It seems so,I just checked my download management and nothing more has been installed.I bet all of those other maps and guns that were teased the other day are already in the game too,just waiting for Nintendo to unlock them.Maybe the plan is to unlock a new map and weapon every few days up until E3?Keeps everyone playing and talking about it.Maybe they will unlock 1 of the new multiplayer modes after the Digital Event has finished? Can't wait to see.The new map released today is my favorite so far.

Are you able to friend-join even though your levels are different? Anyone tried?

There is no "join friends" option in ranked battle. Maybe in August? I've seen level 1 and level 20 players in the same matches in turf wars so joining friends there level doesn't seem to matter.

on the bright side it's not PAID on disc DLC. Something Capcom was notorious for a few years back.

I guess so, just hope we don't have a whole lot that is already on disc that is locked away until Nintendo makes it available or that we at least don't have to wait very long for it.

Yeah I had planned on trying to get a better image as well, but the glitch is definitely tricky to pull off. I tried for a good 5 minutes with no luck.
Ranked battles are pretty interesting though. I definitely prefer turf wars, as I score well whether my team wins or loses. It's super disappointing if you happen to lose with no points even if you did pretty well individually. I don't see myself getting much higher than like C+. I do like it though as the weapons seem to be better balanced for the mode. I didn't do well with the Aerospray, so tried the Krak-on Roller and .52 Gal. The roller was okay, the beacons were especially nice as you are less likely to get blocked out of the zone. The .52 Gal seems pretty decent, making for easy kills and the inkstrike is pretty useful. It also seems to be one of the more popular guns as well.

Yes sir to you it's overpriced DLC. To others it's not. I have found several uses for them plus I personally haven't bought more than 2. My GF on the other hand...well... I've had to cut her off from the money. I've gotten several uses out of all of my amiibos so I feel it's value has and will pay for itself once more games come out with amiibo support. The more games the more bang for your buck IF that amiibo you bought months ago gets used.

Fair enough. It being "overpriced" is definitely subjective. It still is locked content on the disc that you have to spend cash to access. For people who enjoy having the physical collectibles, I can see the appeal. I however who don't care for it much, just see content being locked away that in most cases look like the physical nature of the amiibos add no benefit. When they introduced them with Smash Bros. they were at least going with the angle that it carries data for you that you can take anywhere. As far as the splatoon amiibos go is there any benefit? Maybe if it lets you do the challenges on multiple Wii Us. Got to admit I'm just bothered that it seems like every single game is using them, but they make a ton of money for Nintendo so there's no reason for them to adjust their strategy. I'll just have to live with it.

It's not essential and it's a toy. But yeah if you want to split hairs I guess you're right.

Well, ranked battles certainly take a lot longer to fill the lobby.

Also the sprinkler is BS.
