@Kinan I find Rainmaker's the only game that depends upon the strength of individual players, rather than a collective effort of the team. I can normally carry a rainmaker team against a decent team (but not against anyone who knows what they're doing...), simply due to having a good weapon for the job. Suction Bombs and Killer Wail to break the shield from afar, a good mentality for carrying the Rainmaker, and a Roller as a good supporting weapon for the Rainmaker Carrier. Unlike some people, who swim with the rainmaker, then jump out the way at the first sign of trouble, I would gladly get splatted in service of the rainmaker, which generally means they can get a few more points forward to win the game.
I guess I'm just frustrated with the matchmaking keep putting me against S Rank Snipers, who I have no hope of beating on my own. I just keep getting splatted...
First time playing ranked mode in forever and it's just as frustrating as ever. two -12 losses because we lost a team member in the beginning of a match with a D/C. I thought this garbage balancing system was supposed to only have you lose a couple of points if that happens? I'm so tired of ranked.
If you start a match with a disconnected player (before the match starts), there's only a 1 point loss.
@TheXReturns: I find that Rainmaker takes at least two people to win: someone with the Rainmaker, and someone to help him there. So, it's still a game of cooperation but it doesn't depend on all 4 players. Though the higher on rank I go, the harder I find it to win with just two competent teammates.
@Nicolai That was kinda what I meant, even if I didn't say it. I can win fairly often with either a competent carrier, or supporter, and sometimes solo, depending on the map. I've done both Moray Towers and Camp Triggerfish with really incompetent teammates, and still won. A/S Rankers who deserve to be there generally are tough tho.
Does Ninja Squid hide the rainmaker sometimes? Sometimes I'll be zipping by, and the opposition don't notice me.
A puzzle solved is its own reward.

@TheXReturns: Not to my knowledge, but hiding/swimming in ink does hide the rainmaker's TV screen countdown timer (I think) and its symbol on the map. It's possible that the opposition in your case were looking for those factors and didn't notice the shine you give off with the Rainmaker.
I love it when you're the yellow ink-colored team for Rainmaker, the shine of the Rainmaker blends in better while swimming through the ink.
My favorite ink color is the dark blue, but sadly, the shine is very noticeable in this color ink.

This. RM Distance > Staying alive. There are definitely times when you should stay around teammates, especially when they are splat experts, but I can't tell you how many times I've won Rainmaker by grabbing it and just bolting through enemy territory. Yeah I got splatted, but no one else dared to rush our base like that so we won.
This this the most important point, imo. You don't need to know how to splat people with the RM (although this helps), you just need to know where to be and when to be there. You can easily carry a game going 0-8 if you know how to carry the RM better than anyone on the enemy team. In this way it's a much different game mode than the other two. There's like an art to making off towards the base. I could probably rattle on about this for quite a while, but this is not the place or time.

They D/C'd after the match started, in the first minute. So, I guess that's why, but still, that Nintendo doesn't count that within the first 30 seconds is unforgivable. I get that it could be abused, but I think there needs to be some leeway. It is not my fault, nor my other two team members' faults.
@LztheQuack: They have those at Best Buy? lol! If only I liked hats.

Just had a match where one of my teammates just tried to block my shots and was jumping around in squid form in a ranked battle... We had a pretty good lead for awhile, but then the other team got the tower to our side and my shots kept getting blocked so I couldn't take them out...
I wouldn't care much if it was a turf war, but it is kind of frustrating to lose points because they were acting like that. I don't understand why an S rank would lose points on purpose though.

@MasterWario My thoughts exactly. It's the whole reason why I'm in an A Rank- cause I 'get' the mentality of the Rainmaker up to an A Rank level. It doesn't matter if you're splatted, if the opponents are a while away, and you can get a few metres further. I can't count the number of times I've won or lost on 1 point only. Most people seem so reluctant to take it, just like taking the tower. They fall into a pattern, where they do the same thing match in, match out. But by doing so, you could end up with three people doing exactly the same roll. That's why I like rollers so much. They're versatile. You can hold a tower, do a 1for1 trade (Splat for Splat), be sneaky, arrive where people least expect you, and generally cause havoc. As much as I hate Snipers, I do recognise that they have a weakness in either being a strong sitting duck, or a weaker, mobile target.
@Blue_Blur@DreamyViridi Between you, I think you've solved the mystery. Yellow ink, Ninja Squid, watching for the signs. Boosh.
Huh. Guess I'm a better player than I thought I was. Perhaps I do deserve a good rank after all. Yeah, B+ is where I should be. XD

I walked into a Best Buy to get an eShop card...and I walked out with a Mario t-shirt, a card, and a Splatoon hat. I'm a true squid now
Wow, how cool is that! I saw people with the Splatoon hats in videos, think it was either from E3 or from the Nintendo UK Summer Tour and since then I'm thinking about how to get my hands on those. Couldn't find anything online (except on Etsy, but I'd rather like the original Nintendo product), I think they were gifts that you could only get as a visitor. Do you have a picture of that hat you bought?
