I was at A+96 one win away from S with a sizable lead with about 40 seconds to go and we lost! I called it a day right after that. I went from A33 today to A+82 now. I'm going to strategically selected my next play session to give myself the best chance at S.
Next up is TC, Blackbelly and Urchin, I may do a one and done here, try the first match and if I lose wait it out until the absoltute optimum time and if I win go for S
@yokokazuo: where did you watch a Splatoon tournament? How was it setup? I was interested in the last direct when Nintendo mentioned they would show you how to setup our own tournaments online. Immediately I thought of another update to create tournaments in Splatoon. Is it too good to be true?

@Blue_Blur: Well it was it was quite the roller coaster. I won the first game to give me 92 points. One more win and I would be at S again. The teams were fairly well balanced (certainly by rank) and in the end we knocked them out on Blackbelly. Rank up right? WRONG! They gave me 6 points. 6!!!! I lost the next few matches and I went back to as low as A+50 I think it was. I one 3 or 4 in a row to get back to A+82 so I cashed in and called it a day. It was a wash in the end but the frustration was real

@wisdomsprince: Why should it? I'm pretty sure there will be an update to create tournaments, otherwise Bill Trinen's announcement wouldn't make sense. What confuses me though is that they did leave that out in the EU direct.
Think I'll be playing SZ shortly.
@wisdomsprince it was in the past videos in the link. They tend to be set up on Squidboards I think and they had it set up online through private rooms with one person hosting for 2 teams and some people streaming it.
WTF is wrong with this game? I had this a lot recently, but this time tops the bill. Just a few matches before we had lost with a Team of 2x A and 2x B+ against a team of 2x A and 2x A+. Still we lose 10 points!
But it got even worse in the last match: we (1x S, 1x A, 2x A-) lost against a team of 3x S and 1x B+. And you could immediately feel that they were better and deserved their ranks. So I would've expected -6 or so, but no, -10 again! How on earth is this possible? Sometimes it really feels like the rules for rank points are never actually applied but instead the game rolls a dice and then gives you random points. Not only to my misadvantage, it also happened to my advantage (+12 for no reason).
Feels like this has gotten worse since the last update (sursprisingly, matchmaking has become way better, this was my first real mismatch since the update).
@Aromaiden: You mean aside from tons of new gear, several new weapons, two new maps (one not released yet) and other modifications?
My GOTY? Legend Of Zelda: Splat of the child. Ah no, I meant LoZ: Breath of the SPLATOOOON!
@DefHalan: Speaking of which: Do you guys also hate it when the shield just crushes you although it even had your team's ink on it? They should fix that in my opinion. It doesn't make sense that you can die from your own rainmaker shield.
Lol. This time me team consisted of 1x A- and 3x A and the other team had 1xA+, 1x A- and 2y A. Guess what? We lost and it only cost -8. Why all of a sudden do we get less minus points for that when the rank differences were only marginal? Doesn't make sense.
@wisdomsprince: Which chock points do you mean? I think this has happened to me on various maps (this time on Arowana Mall). The worst thing about it is that you usually can't do anything to prevent that.

@DefHalan: You mean the Bubbler? Yeah I hate that one too, (in comparison with the Kraken) you can't do anything against it, it's basically for cowards... @MasterWario: Oh, I didn't look at the points, as I only care about the rank points in ranked battle. Are the p relevant there too? I'm rank A.
I don't know, I don't even find it comical in just-for-fun matches. It feels just so unjust because you never see it coming, you never can do anything about it and most of the time it's your teammates filling the RM shield so in a way your teammates kill you. Not once did I see a teammate realize this an stop with shooting at the shield until I could get in a safe position. I find it really frustrating.
If you get splatted by the RM shield because the other team broke it and you stood too nearby, it's your fault.
But if you get splatted by the RM shield because the RM-bearer previously lost the RM in an awkward position and then it explodes and squishes you into a wall (caused by your team's ink), it's the game's fault.
@LztheQuack: I don't mean that disrespectfully and I'm aware that some people use them. ^^ I just wanted to point out that it's a really unbalanced special because you can't defend it. Yes, I know, you can shoot at the Bubbler to push him away, but that works only in theory. In practice it always ends with the Bubbler-player splatting you eventually. In contrast, when your enemy activates the Kraken (which got rightfully nerfed), you can always just swim away for a few seconds and then come back and kill him (unless he activates the Kraken right in front of you, then you're dead immediately). But that's impossible with the Bubbler because by then the enemy will have splatted you (because a shooting gun has a higher range than the Kraken).
In maybe 3 out of 1000 cases I managed to push the Kraken back with a bomb rush until the Kraken was over but with the Bubbler it's 0 out of 1000.
@shani: yeah. If you have 80+ points in your rank and you vs players of the same rank, you will lose probably 12 points because the game tries to keep you in your current rank. Likewise you'll lose less points if you are in the lower 20 points in your rank. Doesn't have any effect in S though.
I too have problems with the bubbler, but I'll tell you what really gets me is that stupid hit box on the inkzooka.
Oh and I know it's the game's fault (RM shield) but that's why I find it funny. I know how stressful ranked can get so I try to have fun with it. (But then again you do have a few second window b4 the RM respawns)

Ah okay! I noticed that a lot before, but just credited it to the game's illogical point system or sheer luck.
So the game wants to actually keep you in your current rank. Hm... I gotta say, although I've profited from this several times when I didn't lose my rank thanks to it, I think it's very inconsequential. In my opinion you should always get the same amount of points (for the same performance in comparison to the enemy's rank), even if it means you'll lose your rank more often.
Yeah most of the times I was busy with splatting the enemy or something and then the shield just squished my by surprise. By now I know this can happen, so I'm more cautious, but still sometimes it happens out of nowhere. I too try to have fun in ranked, because I play ranked most of the time (like: 90-95%), but when this happens in crucial moments (luckily not so often) and you lose because of it, it really takes the fun out of it.
