@Ungibbed

You replace the HDD currently in the PS4 with a bigger one,

Your going to be able to play it in six months and the wii showed people will still try to get one despite shortages.

How do you smell, fanboy when he's being completely honest. The Wii U Gamepad added more than $100 to the price.

Pray it isn't the blue screw of doom, other than that only an fanboy come and troll a Nintendo related website No? The cost of the the Wii U and some consumer confusion not realizing it was a new system is a factor. Now I can't wait to see the outlandish prices people will demand in cash on craplist.

As far as the Wii U went, I am a patient kind of guy. I only bought the Wii U last month! Have plenty of games and kit to keep me busy for a while..

Why would anyone replace a 500GB HDD for a bigger HDD? That's the whole reason why Nintendo didn't include one in the first place, so that you could have the one you want, right from the get go if you so choose.
As for the other stuff... Ya, like ungibbed said, Sony is basically selling PS products and losing money. They have alot of money, but selling for losses years and years takes a toll.
I think it's only a matter of time before Sony returns back to their 4K and bluray market, and ditch the PS branch of their company for good.

Because you'll eventually fit it up with content. U have a 120GB 360 that can't even hold everything I own on it due to games and DLC becoming much bigger in size.

Also Nintendo trying to push digital content with a small amount of memory was draft.

The throughput of the Wii LAN adapter is limited by the USB host controller and if you're using multiple USB ports for storage already, you will not see any advantage over using Wi-Fi. Tried it myself to see if it would clear up YouTube and the frame drop and it turns out simply to be a app in need of a update and a larger buffer (it looks like a direct port form the PS3 which was crash happy and stuttered there too)

TBH, you may be better off using a Wireless N router.

I benchmarked the adapter a while ago and I can tell you now that USB 2.0 isn't limiting it. Dual-Band N, which the Wii U isn't, using my N600 router is ~80Mbps real world with a very good adapter from where my Wii U is sitting. With single band N it's closer to 30Mbps which is probably about what my Wii U is receiving. So I can probably get 95Mbps with the LAN adapter compared to 30Mbps over WiFi.....

Which means nothing because when downloading something their servers seem to be slower than my internet connection and my internet connection is a fraction of 30Mbps let alone 95Mbps. When I swapped it literally made no difference at all for how I was using the Wii U. If I was using it to stream movies from my NAS however it would be a very different story.

So I'm guessing you're going to just hold onto the 500GB HDD, too?
I was planning on buying an ext. HDD ASAP for Wii U. Anyone seriously considering to buy a Wii U, knows an ext. HDD might be necessary, mainly if you plan on downloading alot of stuff.
Ext. HDDs are a few aisles over at Best Buy, and they generally aren't that hard to find. Besides, you can play all the games on disc and use the available 8-32GB for soley game saves.
The difference is, is that you're paying $50 extra for a HDD, then you're replacing it with a $200 one(if you go 2TB), and you either have to sell the $50 one at a loss, or just keep it. Is the PS4 HDD even compatible with other devices besides PS4?

EDIT: No matter what, you're spending an extra $50 for an HDD. If you can get the $50 that you paid back, then it won't be so bad, but most people aren't willing to full price for an open item, and compatibility can be an issue, too.

Sony has generally been pretty good with their storage solutions from what I understand. Wouldn't be surprised if you can take out a few screws and physically replace the HDD with a random 2.5" drive of any kind without voiding the warranty. Maybe an SSD even when large capacity SSDs drop in price.

[edit]
turns out that's exactly how it is: http://ps4hdd.com/

Ya, I just checked. It's any 2.5" laptop HDD. Still though. If you plan on only having one HDD, you're gonna have to get rid of that one.
I guess you could just buy a 1.5TB HDD and save the $50 you spent on the 0.5TB, then switch them out like carts

Not a big deal at all, you can use that 500GB drive somewhere else if you want. Give someone's laptop a HDD upgrade, use it as external storage. Easy. The XBone on the other hand.....

How much is the Xbox gonna have? I just wonder if Sony is selling the PS4 at a loss, because they can't really do that sort of thing much longer.

500GB of non removable storage but it can be replaced with a external one like Wii U.

Hmmm... Well, the HDD situation isn't really an issue for me, honestly. I'd rather just buy whichever one I want. I understand including one with the system, but I can get a better one anyway.
Sony selling at a loss pretty much explains the OP. It's nice for the consumer, but a company can't really handle selling at a loss for so many years like Sony has.
I really do expect Sony to ditch gaming eventually, because they excel in the TV and movie area more so.

Don't be sorry. I thought so, too. We've already been hearing this crap for months, and it never gets anyone anywhere.

Actually their TV era ws one of the most money burning divisions hey have. Gaming, imaging, and Insurance were the most profitable. The PS4 won't burn that much of a loss due to PS+ being basically mandatory.

That still doesn't change the fact that their 4K TVs are arguably the best ones, which requires more support from Sony, and here they are using alot of their time and resources to make video games.
Guess what area of expertise Nintendo spends the most money on?
BTW, imaging in general counts is TV related, and insurance has basically nothing to do with anything we're talking about.
They burn more money making displays and such, but the products from those areas of the company are worth supporting more than PS.
If PS+ being mandatory is gonna help, then why didn't they do this on PS2, or even PS3? Xbox has had Live since 2001, and it is still relevant to this day.
PS4 is behind Xbox in terms of online, and Nintendo has free internet.
This just gives more backing to my reasoning that Sony has no clue what to do when it comes to video games. They could have easily had PS2 BC on the slim PS3 consoles, but they either don't know how, or are keeping standard featires away from people games matter most to.

Are you serious? You must not be able to understand what you read, unless you're trolling.
My point is that Nintendo isn't stupid. They observe other markets to see what their devices are able to be compatible with.
Sony excels at 4K, more than Microsoft or Nintendo(surprise?). That's why they should ge focusing on a different market than they currently are.
I wouldn't be surprised if Sony just ditched PS4 if it doesn't do well, and decided to focus on 4K, because that market matters more than video games for Sony, specifically.
All Nintendo does is video games. If one of their consoles is doing bad, they have to stick with it, because that's the only market they are involved in moving forward.

-Because their Video Game division is more profitable than their TV division. The TV disvsion doing so badly is one of the reasons that led to Sony being in the position they were in.
-The imaging department means camera and is a separate division than the TV one. If were talking sony's profitability than Insurance does matter as its the biggest money maker the company has.
-Why would a less profitable department that burns more money through R&D be worth supporting more than gaming. Plus gaming props up the Televsion department giving people incentive to upgrade,
-They couldn;t charge for online becuase at the time they're service was worse and was an advantage.

-Nah One and PS4 are pretty much on par in terms of online functionality shown thus far. PlayStation plus also has the advantage of giving free games atrting the first month of the PS4 with Drive Club a launch title. Nintendo not charging for online isn't a positive as their online and user interface aren't worth charging for.

-They took out the PS2 BC from the slim for pricing reasons. No real point to have basically stuff different hardware systems in one box that adds up the price. Its one of the reasons why Wii U is stuck int he position it is.

I seriously question whether you yourself understand what you type, all I read is veiled ranting against sony and an over defensiveness to nintendo neither of which seem warranted.
