@Ralizah I think it's pretty clear why this is getting censored so badly, it's the only game they can market for the next 4 months till Color Splash comes out. They couldn't push an M rated game to kids and I still can't see how anyone under the age of 13 would even care about this game regardless of the changes or not.

That would be more believable if this hadn't been a T for teen rated game:

@Socar So in the dungeons you go through them and enemies can randomly appear on the map. You can hit them before they get to you which will stun them and if you touch them, a battle will start and you can get a first strike which allows you to get a few extra hits in. If you don't attack them when they touch you then it will just start with whoever is faster.

I haven't played a whole lot of JRPG's, but the combat reminded me a lot of the Mario & Luigi series. Enemies appear on the map and you can attack them before initiating a battle to get a bit of an advantage over them. In combat you have choices of doing a regular, weak attack, defend which gets you a few EP (EP acts like battle points), use items, set tactics (teammates will fight by themselves and you only choose Itsuki's actions), run (not always guaranteed) and skills which use the EP meter. Skills have different elements/weapon types to them and have various effects. They can deal small, medium and large amounts of damage, inflict an ailment on an enemy, lower the enemy stats, increase your own or have different healing effects.

Also included from Fire Emblem is the weapon triangle and class system. Each enemy has a class an generally a weapon that they use along with their strengths and weaknesses. A Pegasus knight for example wields a lance and so she is weak to axes and as a Pegasus knight, she is also weak to force magic (like wind magic in FE) and bows.
Also when a skill is used that is effective against an enemy, it initiated a session so characters with the right session skills are able to join in and deal a lot of damage together.

Edge Magazine gave TMS #FE a 7/10.

Apparently TMS#FE is available for pre-purchase on the NA eshop and is 17GB.

@Kazuo Ok.....but what about that relationship thing that the treehouse showed?

Ok....I know you like this game better than me....but I still just have no clue how this whole thing has anything to do with FE to me atleast.

First of, I don't like the character designs that they did for the FE cast in this as their face is covered and most of the proportions are also changed as well....especially my Tharja.

Then there's the problem with how story wise, having the FE cast is pointless.......As of now, the story to me makes no sense as I can't figure out what this game is trying to do to make it sound like an FE game.

The only good thing is how it remixes the classic FE music. I know this isn't what you want to hear but I'm sorry....the more I learn about this game, the more puzzled I am of its existence.

After so long...I'm back. Don't ask why

Reviews for the game have been very positive for the Japanese version. Famitsu gave it 8s and 9s. There's also an excellent, spoiler-free review here:

I'm expecting 7s and 8s from the North American folks, and that's fine with me.

Recently finished: Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, Splatoon 3: Side Order, Donkey Kong Country Returns HD
Currently playing: Zelda: Skyward Sword HD

I'm hyped for this. A big-budget turn-based JRPG with weirdness and J-pop. They showed off a special move where two girls sang the baddies to death. I'm all in!

toxibunny

SLIGEACH_EIRE

Famitsu overinflate everything. I can see it getting 7's all round over here for a host of reasons.

This is not a big budget game. And the J-Pop is one thing I don't like. It's so cheesy and cringey. I want it for the RPG goodness. Fire Emblem isn't well represented either. Tokyo Mirage Sessions #<1%FE. lol

@Socar relationship thing? Could you explain which part specifically?

So as mirages most of the characters are made to look more demonic which is why they look quite different while also retaining some of their appearance and some key things. They also still have their personalities from their games including Tharja.
When I first saw the game I was initially disappointed and didn't really like the mirage designs, but I eventually warmed up to it.
There is Tiki however who generally retains much of her Shadow Dragon appearance.
Overall the game is it's own story with some links to SMT and Fire Emblem, but as you get near the end you start to learn more and about the link between this game and Fire Emblem. However it is more related to Shadow Dragon btw.

Of course it isn't for everyone, I do recommend it for fans of Atlus' games (I assume since I haven't played one before) and also fans who are interested that have played Shadow Dragon and Awakening.
I'll also search for my post where I wrote my thoughts on the game and repost it here again for those that are interested, I went over various things about the game without diving too much into spoilers.

Okay, here is what I wrote on my thoughts on the game. First paragraph was my initial impressions.

Kazuo wrote:

I was rather worried about the gameplay since I've never played an Atlus game and have played few RPG's, but I'm absolutely loving this! Gameplay is pretty fun and has some interesting crossovers with some of Fire Emblem's mechanics. You don't really have to grind a whole lot, but it isn't recommended to avoid too many enemies. On the second boss I was about 6 levels lower than them when I got to them and pretty much got destroyed haha... After gaining a couple levels however I was able to win without too much trouble. (They seemed to have it out for Tsubasa though... Took her out twice)
Also the story seems to be rather interesting so far and has me intrigued. There are also various nods to the Fire Emblem series (Tharja is still a creepy stalker haha), not sure about SMT/Persona games though.

Okay, try to give an overview of the game without going into spoilers.

I have found the game to feel pretty unique overall. There is a good amount of humour in the game, but at the same time there is also a serious side to it. The characters are all very different from another and quite dynamic at the same time. As I had mentioned earlier, one of my favourite parts are the side stories, they are really fun and really go more into the background of the characters. Aside from side stories there are also requests which various characters in the game ask of you. These vary on the objective, from finding a certain object to fighting very strong mirages. They can be kind of interesting at times and reward you with various items, but they are rather small parts of the game and didn't feel that interesting to me overall.
The combat has been a lot of fun, each character/enemy belongs to a class like Fire Emblem with its own weapon and abilities tailored to their own class. Generals for example have an ability that occurs randomly where they will move in front of an attack to protect their teammate. There are also some magic skills, some of which remind me of the magic from Fire Emblem, but I believe these attacks are based off of the SMT series and even share the names like Thunder based skills usually with Zio in part of the name. A very strong thunder attack that hits multiple enemies called Maha Zio Dain (don't know for sure if this is the correct English name for it). There is also the Fire Emblem weapon triangle with swords being good against axes, axes good against lances and lances good against swords. Each class has a set amount of weaknesses and resistances, but for the main characters they can have different weapons or "Carnages" as they're called. Carnages all have different strengths and weaknesses and some have special abilities like killing weapons which like ones from Fire Emblem, increase your critical hit percentage. Also with each carnage comes a variety of skills that can be unlocked. Skills are placed into various categories. Unlockable through Carnages are Command Skills, Session Skills and Passive Skills. Through a thing called Radiant Unity, Radiant Skills are unlocked and through some other ways like side stories, Special Skills are unlocked.
Command Skills are your attacks with varying strengths and effects, using up EP.
Session Skills allow other teammates (or the enemy too when they're attacking) to join in on an attack that is effective against your opponent.
Passive Skills are small skills that have different effects in battles.
Radiant Skills have a variety effects, in battles or outside too.
Special Skills occur in different ways depending on the type.
Special Performances use up an SP meter or two which fills up with each action that occurs during a battle, these can be powerful attacks or ones that have an effect on teammates or enemies such as increasing/decreasing attack, healing or reviving fallen teammates.
Ad Lib Performances randomly occur when an attack of its element is used and are powerful attacks that attack all enemies on the field even if the attack you originally chose would normally only hit one enemy. Duo Arts randomly occur during a session, you can choose between two when they occur if you have 2 or more unlocked by pressing L or R. These are powerful attacks that also have different effects like filling up your SP meter, healing your team or inflicting an ailment on the enemy.
Also special performances/ad lib performances won't be affected by enemies resistances to attacks and automatically initiate a session.
Speaking of resistances, regarding attacks, the enemy/character being attacked will either take less damage if they are resistant to it, normal damage, more damage if they are weak to it or the attack can have no effect, counter and hit the one attacking or heal the one being attacked.
Also I believe that each boss in the game is a mirage from Fire Emblem. And there are quite a few references to the series, I've seen a few references to Gaius for example.
The songs are also well done and sound great and the animations for all the cutscenes are done really well.

I would definitely recommend it to Fire Emblem fans at least, especially if you have played Shadow Dragon and Awakening before (some of the story is linked to them)
Also overall the game on normal mode (you have a choice initially between easy, normal and hard and can switch at any time) had a decent amount of challenge to it. I usually wouldn't have too much of a problem going through the dungeons (which by the way all tend to be focused around a gimmick/puzzle. In one area for example, you had to enter certain rooms in a select order in order to go to another area), but enemies called "wild enemies" can randomly appear which are very powerful and are several levels higher than you. I would usually fight quite a few enemies through each dungeon, but the bosses were almost always fairly difficult to deal with. On the last part I found it easy against some of the tougher enemies, but then the final boss was really difficult to deal with. However it did get easier once I noticed some patterns in their attacks and when I should use some attacks.

Also for the length of the game, I'm not fluent in Japanese and I read a lot slower than English so that kind of took some time up and the gameplay time includes when it is paused and using other things like Miiverse so my play time recorded on the Wii U is two hours shorter than the playtime shown in the game. Which is about 100 hours, but I've seen people beat it around 70.

Socar

@Kazuo Ok...so the relationship thing is that I saw two units sort of combining together and they end up getting stronger when its the option that you get from Tiki.

While I love the hell out of Awakening, I doubt that this game might push me into it even if I had the Wii U.

But yeah, nice review. Hopefully Nintendolife sees the game as well as you have and gives it a good score.

@Socar oh, like what happens in this picture?

That is called Radiant Unity and they can get you a variety of bonuses if you have the right performa. They have a variety of effects such as one that can allow characters to slowly regain EP/health as you walk around or one called Endless Song which can save a character from being taken out by leaving them with 1 hp when hit by an attack that would normally defeat them.

Hoping when the game releases we can actually have discussions here about it, rather than the stupid censorship conversations that have already died a death.

I expect censorship will come up even more. We'll finally be able to see first hand what they've done rather than analysing and comparing the sparse amount of detail Nintendo have released so far about the game against the Japanese version. The game's out in less than a week and I've seen no promotion other than the short, poor E3 Treehouse Live presentation.

SLIGEACH_EIRE

Grumblevolcano

@SLIGEACH_EIRE Well to be honest Nintendo hasn't really promoted any Wii U games since Super Mario Maker (Breath of the Wild doesn't count as it's on NX too).

also, they promoted Pokken so little, that it only ended up selling more than Street Fighter 5.

I'm really excited for TMS, shame the focus on every website I've seen is on the censorship. The game's been condemned before it is even out.

I have a chronic lack of time, for everything.

Now playing: Okami HD, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
