So Atlus and Nintendo are teaming up to bring their hit RPG series together. Is anyone else excited? I know I am, and I don't even like Fire Emblem! Just the prospect of these two companies working together seems too good to resist!
EDIT: 4/2/2015
New info popped up Yesterday, with a new Trailer:
And new info:
This is the result of our collaboration work on the “Fire Emblem” series....
...It was following that that we were able to come to our conclusion and settle on the concept for this project. As a result of this, “Illusory Revelations ♯ Fire Emblem” follows the basic axis of what I would say are “Realistic characters who suffer from many conflicts and worries in modern-day Japan” in this RPG. It was capturing the feeling of “Fire Emblem” that was the real challenge during the development of this concept, as this is a collaboration project, after all.
In this PV, many people may find it hard to understand where the essence of “Fire Emblem” comes into play. However, this will be explained more in the future, so please wait for a follow-up to this.
*”Illusory Revelations ♯ Fire Emblem” is not the official localized title, and is just how we translated the Japanese title of the game for this interview.] <-- obviously I or a mod will have to change the title again when we get an official title...
I'm a huge fan of both series. I just have no idea how it will work. SMT is about fighting with demons. Fire Eblem is about fighting with swords. Don't know how those fit, but I look forward to seeing what comes out of it.
Oh, and for those that are unaware of the SMT series, look into it. It's among the most consistently quality series out there. Heck, Persona 4: Golden, a Shin Megami Tensei game (though I suppose a spin-off), was the highest rated game last year. There's some games in the series (I guess spin-offs, since the last main entry was a while back) on the DS with the Devil Survivor games and Strange Journey.

The Megaten (for short) series is an extremely popular RPG franchise. A lot of it's entires deal with demons and mythology (often recruiting as party members) and they're usually set in a sort post-apocalyptic Japan.
Hope the gameplay is more in the vein of the FE series though. Definitely consider purchasing the Wii-U when this comes around.
My guess is it'll be like Devil Survivor, where the characters are grouped together in parties, which move around on a grid. Battles will likely play out more like an ordinary SMT game, too.
Shin Megami Tensei, as a whole, is a series comprised of hardcore RPGs in varying subgenres (dungeon crawler, SRPG, heck, even sim-elements) that focus around demon lore. The main series is about to see its fourth entry on 3DS in Japan this spring, and the last one to release in the main series was Nocturne on PS2.
Other games in sub-series include Pesona, a Sim-dungeon crawler hybrid, with the last two entries in the series being highly lauded by critics. Persona 4: Golden is currently the highest rated game on the Vita and was the highest rated video game to release last year, and Persona 3: Portable is the second highest-rated game on PSP. Then there's the Devil Survivor games on DS, which are strategy RPGs. Additionally, there are others like the Digital Devil Saga series and Strange Journey.

Or maybe it'll be completely new. Who knows?
This is exactly what I was thinking. It's already almost the same game play and I'm wondering if the characters from each game have to team up against a greater evil and common for from one of the universe's!

If I was only ever able to have Monster Hunter and EO games in the future, I would be a happy man.
I'm wondering more on what the story will be. My guess is the SMT characters can't fully deal with whatever evil they are fighting, so they time-travel back and gather troops of FE people to assist them. Or vise-versa. Unoriginal of course, but that's just my basic guess.
Actually, Time Travel (or inter-dimensional travel?) is already an element of the latest SMT game, as well as in at least one of the Fire Emblem games. It wouldn't surprise me if they're just doing their regular thing and just stumble into eachother.
I don't really care for SMT, But more FE is always good.

@CanisWolfred I hope to Miyamoto this crossover won't be handled the same way Crapcom handled that Battle Network X Starforce crossover. Yeah, that one: Operation Shooting Star. That was just... That was both lazy and terrible...
