A friend of mine is having trouble with her Gamepad, it's missing alot of pixels in one corner and those pixels are glowing red, but don't display images, so is something defective in her Gamepad? Her console is still under warranty so would a defective Gamepad be covered under the warranty? Thanks in advance.

Under warranty for 12 months, although that warranty can be extended to 15 months if the console is linked to Club Nintendo. The Gamepad has a separate serial number than the console, and can be found on the back. She needs to call Nintendo and set up a repair. Nintendo will email her a pre paid shipping label. She can then take the Gamepad to UPS and have them print the label from her email account, or she can print it herself beforehand. She will have to pay for the box to send it in unless she chooses to package it herself (it's only a couple bucks to have UPS box it up for you).
It usually takes about 10 days round trip to make it to the repair center and back, and will grant a new 1 year warranty from the time of repair/replacement.
