I'm just not seeing it with this game. It literally looks like Sticker Star in HD. The graphics and art-style look gorgeous, but everything else looks like utter trash. The trailer on YouTube has a lot of dislikes, so hopefully Nintendo will listen to the criticism.
Also, in the interview, the lady said if they got enough requests for a TTYD remaster, they'd probably make it. A lot of people have been saying "I want a sequel, not a remake." But if they do make a remake of it, and it sells really well, they'll probably make future Paper Mario more like it. So yeah. Let Nintendo know you want it!
A remake would sure as Hell be a step in the right direction...
There is nothing here...except for the stuff I just typed...
Tbh, i like this game more then Sticker Star after seeing the Treehouse playing it, and finally we have a Console Paper Mario for this generation
while i'm sold, it has not wowed me enough to per-order it Day 1. i'll get it sometime later, but not right at it's release.

I've not yet played a Paper Mario. I'm not really a fan of non-action battling, so the card mechanic I'm unsure of, but the game did look terrific visually. Not a Day 1 buy but I'd love to play it someday.
You guys had me at blood and semen.
What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?
The paint "EXP" meter, the Treehouse gameplay and the fact this is the last true Wii U game has moved this game from "Maybe Christmas present" to "Day 1 purchase".
At least there seems to be a story (at this point I'd appreciate anything that's different from "Oh no, Princess Peach has been kidnapped!") and the battle system seems to work even though I still think it's a contrivance from what I saw.
I want to pick this up, but reviews would have to my do my purchase justice, it seems.
@Socar Defeating enemies give coins, cards and paint blobs. When you collect the paint blobs a horizontal meter fills up to the right of the color meters. When you fill up that horizontal meter completely, the maximum paint you can hold increases.
Also, paint blobs unrelated to battles do not fill up the horizontal meter hence we've essentially got an EXP system.

Ah now I see. But do you still have to find cards inorder to attack in battle like Sticker Star? That was the main drawback for me in Sticker Star because you can't kill bosses if you've used up all your stickers.
After all the talk about last Nintendo directs's revelation about Color Splash and it's connection to Sticker Star, I wanted to know what the fuss is all about and bought Sticker Star. Glad I did because I really liked it. I have to admit that I haven't played the Gamecube games and I just played two Mario and Luigi games on the 3ds so I was genuinely surprised that the mechanics weren't the same. I missed the levelling up but fighting was still strategic enough. Depends on what you prefer - I like both design choices. Humor was great and the levels were awesome. So for me, Color Splash is a Day 1 purchase. So - give the game a chance and try not to compare it with the gamecube games - just enjoy it
@Socar I can't really tell from the footage whether cards are discarded after use. The amount of repeat cards in the person's hand suggests yes however battle spin is confirmed to return hence maybe if you succeed you can use like 5 of the same card at once.
An important point seen only in the GameXplain 15 minutes gameplay footage: you don't need battle spins to increase the max amount of cards you can use at once. There are collectibles for that similar to HP-UP hearts. And they are permanent. This is definitely good.
Also, another interestring thing I was thinking about: the Paper Koopalings were announced in Paper Jam
However the Morton we see here clearly has nothing to do with the Morton of Paper Jam. This means that while Paper Jam was being developed, the game was already in an advanced phase of development, to the point that the script was not modified to adapt Morton to the new depiction seen in Paper Jam (as a counterexample, in Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, Larry's 1st place animation has him imitating Ludwig's 2nd/3rd place animation and then getting dizzy, just like what happened in the battles against Ludwig and Larry in Paper Jam, suggesting that the development of both games started nearly at the same time, with the personality of the Koopalings being developed for both games).
This likely means that Color Splash is not exactly a filler game made at the last minute, so I'm waiting to know more about critical aspects of gameplay and story (that this time seems to be present, along with non-classical settings that unfortunately were barely shown).
The games is set on four island, Prism Island and three smaller islands.
Among the locations already seen and some that were somewhat featured in Sticker Star (the mansion, the crater filled with lava, the volcano) , there is also a colosseum, a radio station (a radio tower can be seen), a circus, a lighthouse. So, there might be some new locations, after all!
Sigh...why? @Octane Well, at least this time some of the Toads don't just have different colors...still doesn't change the fact that the NPCs are ONLY Toads from the looks of things, though. @DarthNocturnal Hate to break it to you, but the cards don't appear to go back into the deck when you're done with them, so it looks attacks are limited...again. Still would love a remaster of TTYD or 64, though. At least that would show that they somewhat care.

@DarthNocturnal@NintendoFan64 I imagine a TTYD remaster would cause Tokyo Mirage Sessions levels of anger from certain people. There's no way Nintendo would keep Flurrie, the Peach shower scene and the naked Peach parts intact.
Did someone go back in time and erase the first three games?!
Yes. That is clearly a perfect reason for me to stop being upset. The problem I have with this isnt' that the first three games stopped existing...it's because this really shows how clueless the developers are towards the series that they're developing. I mean, really? Are they seriously that clueless?
Edit: That, added with the developer's comment of how "if you want a Paper Mario game, go play Mario & Luigi", also makes it feel like they're actively TRYING to anger the fanbase.
@NintendoFan64 Or it just could be the marketing effort that NOA is known for. Censoring for the sake of the suppose image Nintendo is widely known for.
I don't think the developers are clueless towards the stories in the Paper games. Its just that since Sticker Star managed to do so well, they just thought that we don't want Paper Mario to be what it used to be and so we end up with Color Splash.
I could get angry at this but I take it for granted because its a spin off and not an actual series of its own. And besides, this doesn't look like it will end up like Sticker Star at all.

But this makes the developers look clueless, as if they don't even know what the Hell they're even doing with this series. If it started out as an RPG, you just can't go "OH! It was an action-adventure game all along!"

But that doesn't mean they shouldn't have done just the tiniest bit of research. I remember a while back when Gamestop had enough used copies to sell for just 10 bucks a piece. Doesn't really set a good message towards people's reaction to Sticker Star.
