I love the visuals! The card combat system looks a bit like a simplified Heartstone combat system. That's a good thing because I'm not a Heartstone player. ^^
My GOTY? Legend Of Zelda: Splat of the child. Ah no, I meant LoZ: Breath of the SPLATOOOON!
Funny how Morton talks like a doofus in Paper Mario instead of in Mario & Luigi, where he's a lot more eloquent.
Yes, Morton even had that clumsy poem in Paper Jam that was funny, here there's clearly different writing which is odd even though it still fits the character. I like PJ Morton more, I think.
Well, I just watched the trailer and....
I don't know. I'm still confused. I guess I'll have to watch the Treehouse gameplay later but now I'm not even having high hopes for this one. Yeah, the visuals are fantastic, but the game in general looks weird. Like non-Paper Mario weird.
@Mister_Wu Now that I think about it, I kinda feel like that could be an analogy for where both series are headed. Mario & Luigis are usually very well made and intricate (PJ less so) while the recent Paper Marios...aren't.
You wanna know what's sad? That when they first revealed this in the March Direct, Bill called Paper Mario a "beloved series", when they clearly have no idea why it was beloved in the first place. Also, anyone else find it odd how Andre asked why they decided to stick with the Sticker Star formula, and Risa just completely avoided the question and started talking about where the idea for cards came from?
There is nothing here...except for the stuff I just typed...
I just recently finished playing the original Paper Mario with my son and I must say, while I really like different characters and partners and everything, there was nothing paper-y about it. The "paper" thing was entirely aesthetic. I really like how the newer ones, including Sticker Star, really play up the paper and make it a part of the experience. It really makes the game a new experience rather than just new graphics. And I think it made the battles fun and intriguing too, like even boss battles are puzzles you have to solve rather than straight fighting (and I don't remember ever NOT having the sticker I needed, so it's not like that was as big a deal as everyone makes it out to be). I am looking forward to this new one.
It's strange. Nintendo's capable of hearing and understanding fan complaints, yet at times, they simply refuse to do so. Even if doesn't benefit them in the end to not take it. I imagine that they're just very stubborn at times.
Just finished watching the Treehouse gameplay, and I'm not too happy with the game right now. The only thing I really liked was the paper aesthetic. I like the strategy elements in the card battle system, but there was nothing shown that proved that the new system was more than just a tacked on contrivance. The story and the NPCs aren't really something to write home about, either. And the visual effects of those special cards look unnecessary, IMO. The game just feels empty.
I might still buy the game, but I'm not impressed. I guess I'll wait and see some reviews or something.
I'm just not seeing it with this game. It literally looks like Sticker Star in HD. The graphics and art-style look gorgeous, but everything else looks like utter trash. The trailer on YouTube has a lot of dislikes, so hopefully Nintendo will listen to the criticism.
Also, in the interview, the lady said if they got enough requests for a TTYD remaster, they'd probably make it. A lot of people have been saying "I want a sequel, not a remake." But if they do make a remake of it, and it sells really well, they'll probably make future Paper Mario more like it. So yeah. Let Nintendo know you want it!
