@Chandlero: Yeah, it's a shame the GC hasn't been used more on Wii U in either form (HD remaster or VC). You could even argue WWHD and TPHD wouldn't have happened if Zelda U didn't keep getting delayed.

It is really a pity. As far as I the homebrew section understand the WiiU is capable of playing GC games natively (like Wii games) and Nintendo "only" would have to add GamePad controls.

The winkle with gamepad controls would be the gamepad can't offer pressure-sensitive triggers like the Gamecube's controller did so they would to suppot the gamecube controller which they already have on sale though.

@arronishere: Of course they can support the original GameCube controller. However, most GC-games didn't need the analog triggers. Most games only used one trigger for two button inputs and since the GamePad have enough buttons (for example the two extra stick clicks), there is no problem to play solely on the GamePad.

(However I don't think Nintendo will ever release GameCube VC titles...)

Incidentally, I've owned TTYD for 5+ years and have never played it for more than a few minutes. Seeing all the passion it inspires in people, I must be missing out.

Currently Playing: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)

@DarthNocturnal: Sounds good. I ought to play the older games soon. My first PM was SS and... well, I think you can understand why I've not been in a huge rush to play more of these games.

There are some big titles on NGC where the analog triggers were really important. My example is Super Mario Sunshine where I got stuck in that hotel level until I realized I can shoot water and run at the same time if I push the trigger lightly. Must´ve missed that part in the tutorial for some reason.

It would be great if David Wise made soundtracks to all future Nintendo games.

Yes, but that only excuses Super Paper Mario so far. The only Paper Mario in the last 9 years—Sticker Star—has been pretty sucky. And this one looks just like it, so...

Yes, but that only excuses Super Paper Mario so far.

That's because while the gameplay was...eh, it still had the other things we liked about the first two games: unique and interesting characters, interesting environments, and a good story. Sticker Star...doesn't have any of that. And unless Nintendo shows a new trailer that shows environments going beyond the standard NSMB level, a story, and characters other than Toads (basically the opposite of what they revealed with), it'll probably be the same.

There is nothing here...except for the stuff I just typed...

@TomJ: It'll depend on who reviews it, I think it'll get the "meh" rating like Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric.

Exactly. Though I would assert that Super Paper Mario only lost complexity in the combat—the puzzle gameplay was just as strong as The Thousand Year Door's. If not stronger from the clever flipping mechanic.

Do people actually enjoy TTYD's combat for regular enemies more than Super Paper Mario? Dispatching enemies in SPM is just so quick and simple. You don't have to go through a tedious battle screen for every single enemy.

I can understand bosses though. I'd much rather have a long memorable boss fight than a quick and simple one.

I personally found the combat in SPM to be... A little frustrating. Specially in boss battles. I never beat it because that battle against Mimi as Peach near the end was so boring and long, I got bored of it and decided to stop playing.

Then there's that mid chapter where all you do is do like 40 battles, one after the other, with long dialogues in between. It's like they prepared you for a good joke, but it dragged on until it wasn't funny at all.

I like turn-based battles better.

A good 10% of Super Paper Mario was the developers trolling the players.

The game lacks random encounters, so you can choose your fights and pace yourself more often then not. And enemy groups usually stay dead until you leave an area.

If it used a random encounter system.... then yeah, there'd be a problem (unless enemy groups were kept small). Random encounter is best suited for faster battle paces.

Enemies do chase after you though. Really, at it's core I just find turn based battles tedious. The only reason I put up with Pokemon is the personal connection to each creature.
