Nintendo is fine. But the Wii U is over. It didn't really begin, to be fair. It's not going to sell 9 million units in this financial year as predicted by Satoru Iwata. Nintendo has its head in the sand. I will be surprised if the Wii U is in stores next Christmas, apart from knocking around the bargain bins and/or the retro sections, where delusional Nintendo fanboys refuse to accept the inevitable. Apart from a handful of games that are in Nintendo's own house there's nothing to wait for. And that myth that Nintendo games sell Nintendo consoles is clearly just that. It's a myth. Wind Waker HD, Pikmin and Mario may be great games but they haven't been system sellers.
The big question earlier in the year was whether new consoles from Microsoft and Sony would follow suit. They didn't; both have gotten off to a flying start past the two million mark. Over a year from release and the Wii U is shuffling along with no support from third parties. Again, the Nintendo faithful point to in-house development, but it's clearly not enough to shift units. Nintendo hasn't heard the advice to fast fail. This holiday season is the last roll of the dice - the bundles on offer are good value for money - but the system looks out of date sat next to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. To the consumer it's not clear what differentiates the Wii U. It looks cheaper, it has a tablet that's barely used and once again it's surrounded by those all too familiar cartoon faces. Nintendo preaches to the converted but the converted aren't enough to sustain the Wii U business.
I'll say it again to be clear; Nintendo is fine, but the Wii U is over.
I don't know how people think Nintendo is going to pull the plug on Wii U but eh whatever. Still think would be far too soon to fully deem it a failure but I guess everyone has their own opinions.

Pachter is an idiot. Will it pass Wii U by May? Possibly. The Wii U sales in NA this holiday season are extremely strong so I think it will take longer than that. And it could change again. Only the UK has bad taste in games really.
@Dumedum It sold 200k in The US in November. That's not strong, that's a disaster. That's less than a third what the Cube did in it's second November. It's the same figure the Dreamcast sold.
And if it's like the Dreamcast, then what exactly is Vita? the Game Gear? It sold 39,000 the same week. And btw, the 3ds sold 415,000 in comparison. That's more than one million in one week globally.
Yes, the Vita is doing awful too, but that doesn't help the Wii U. Again, 130,000 a week before Christmas is not good numbers. The 360 sold 1.4 million units last December, 1.7 million the december before that, and that's at the end of it's life.
I don't think it's bad numbers. Wii probably sold more back then. 360 now sold 285,000 in the same week.
Together with Japan it was more than Xbox One. 320,000 in one week is no Dreamcast.

Because, in all seriousness, it's best to buy the console near the end of it's life - all wrongs are fixed (so less RROD) and you have loads of games to play, and most of them in the bin already. Also to replace old model etc. That's the truth behind it.
Next year should be better for WiiU, but still Nintendo has a lot of work ahead.
Nintendo has too much cash- and is still generating cash from 3ds to pull the plug on this in 2014. This is a pretty idiotic thing to say. Plus, there's going to be a ton of people who will buy a Wii U for Mario Kart, Smash Bros., new Zelda- even Donkey Kong will move some units.

Nobody ever said it was crazy. Most users seemed to agree or say that it is a possibility (like I did). Some said it would happen in January.
He is still an idiot. This is a guy that said that WoW would flop. He even predicted that Midway Games will be successful and profitable. He is loopy.
Just wait for mk8, smash bros, zelda u and the suprises, then we shall see what happens patcher.
Only a slight increase in sales but nothing significant
@Unca_Lz Mario Kart 8 won't have a significant presence in sales? Lol you're wrong. That's ONE game I KNOW will sell like crazy.
I think it will definitely be the biggest seller for wii u, but I can't see even MK8 selling enough to actually turn around the fortunes of the wii u, I think the chance of wii u being a significant force this gen is about as likely as getting hit by an asteroid with a winning lottery ticket attached to it.
It really doesn't matter though how much Wii U sells, for the gamers.
Nintendo will make the games regardless.
Third parties will not make the games regardless.
