As someone else said, and I forgot who, this might've been part of a deal with Microsoft and Nintendo to have Minecraft for Wii U in exchange for the rights to some of the games in Rare Replay.

Rare owns all of their own properties (well, sort of... Microsoft more or less "owns" them now). I don't see why they'd have to "trade".
I doubt they'd be able to sell some of the Rare Replay games without negotiating a deal with Nintendo as they'd be emulating Nintendo's hardware for commercial purposes. I don't think it unreasonable to think that they worked out a deal together, but Nintendo got DKC/L 1-3, Microsoft got about 15 NES-N64 games, that doesn't seem a fair trade to me and I don't think Nintendo would give up so much for so little (in quantity, not quality) return. Whether Minecraft was negotiated in with that, I don't know, but it isn't entirely impossible.
From what I understand, Mojang is still operating fairly independently, as evidenced by the fact that Minecraft is on Sony consoles, Apple's devices, Android, and now Nintendo. It's similar to how Pokemon operates (which is why there have been Pokemon apps on mobile devices LONG before Nintendo ever said they would makè anything for mobile).
The Sony and android version of Minecraft came out before Microsoft acquired Mojang
Nintendo paid a good chunk for this game to come out and needs to use a $10 higher price tag to recoup.
No. The price tag is set by Mojang/Microsoft, which is the publisher. It's the same price and content as the Minecraft Holiday Edition. It's not a higher price tag.
Does anyone know of a cross buy deal? I have the game on Xbox One, but I have a feeling that the game will be better on Wii U. Also, cross platform should happen, and I'm not sure if it already is there, honestly, but it would be nice if that connectivity happens.
About Rare Replay having N64 games, the software belongs to them and they have all the rights to make it work in any system they want (unless, for example, they actually steal the emulator from someone else. Then that'd be a problem.). The fact that they appeared on a certain console first is irrelevant.
Programing emulators of any kind would be completely illegal otherwise.
If we're talking about Microsoft supporting Nintendo console, they might as well put all the N64 games on there all at once and steal sales from Nintendo on their own console. Also, put Banjo and Kazooie in Smash to shut everyone up once and for all about "where's Banjo?"; all in good taste, of course.
Great news and a welcome addition to the Wii U. However, i feel like this would have had more impact if Minecraft had inventory management on the gamepad and was a launch day title with wii u. that coupled with aggressive marketing and i bet it would've helped NSMB U sell more wii u consoles at the time.
With no gamepad inventory, this is just an inferior port that has no incentive for anyone that owns more than a Wii U, since it's been out for years on literally everything else. Unfortunately, I'm not very interested anymore

Enough people will never know about the lack of gamepad support and buy it materially assuming otherwise that it's going to sell incredibly well and generate a lot of anger.

Good I like the map size and never noticed any lag even in splitscreen
I was going to berate you for this comment until I noticed the obvious sarcasm.
Yeah yeah I really really really really love running 3000 Marathons going between the End or Nether Fort and my base that's my favorite part of the game! Especially the first times where you have no idea where they could be and it takes praticaly 3 hours! Man I wish they could put those places even farther apart just for the fun of it ya know? The pure fun.
The only thing I don't like about the smaller maps is that they can lack certain things, like a portal to the end, villages (and with them, villagers and their trades), biomes with important materials or animals, etc.
And most of the time you only find out after you've invested hours into making a nice base. (Unless you spoil the map and play it in creative first).
Although creating a village from 0 is also a nice challenge.
