Hey guys.
Rant alert! Okay, yeah a rant is coming...
So, somethings been bugging my a lot lately, and I just got to talk about it somewhere. Now, I've always been a Nintendo fan (I would fit under the category of "fan boy" ) and, yeah, there are a lot of people who trash talk on Nintendo, but I've always just been able to ignore them. However, recently there has been things that I just CAN'T STAND.
So, the Wii U. I have it, and love it. It's tons of fun. the worst thing is that there's only a good few of games for it. (Which is to be expected, as it just launched.) Now, people blame Nintendo for this, but Nintendo is practically the only one who seems to be making games for the Wii U! People like Activision and EA almost refuse to develop/port games to the Wii U. Now, I couldn't care less about EA and Activision games, but, the fact that they're not making games means that the console is a "no-go" for fans of their series. Which means less sales, which means companies won't make games for it.
Okay, lets go into something different. People were really upset about how the PS4 and Xbox One didn't have backwards compatibility. I wish there was a console that had full backwards compatibility plus a service where you could buy previous retro games.... Oh wait. The Wii U.
Both the Xbox One AND the PS4 you MUST pay a monthly fee for internet services. Man that stinks. I wish that there was a console that would let you play online for free... Oh wait. The Wii U.
Also, people constantly whine about the price of the Wii U, and how they want a price cut, but then go onto droll over the PS4.
Wii U Deluxe set: $350
PS4: $400
Xbox One: $500
Another thing, people hate the DRM on the Xbox games, and how used games are frowned upon. Nintendo is all for used games, and sharing them.
Okay, so back to the games. Nintendo has made, and is making a bunch of upcoming games. And people complain on how that they're not making enough games. How many games are Sony and Microsoft making on their console?.... Oh wait. None. (That I know of. Correct me if I'm wrong.)
Okay, okay, okay, I'm sorry for ranting so much, but this has really been bugging me. And I'm sure that there's plenty of people who agree with me (hopefully). And I'm not say "oh Sony sucks and xbox is terrible". We (my family) have a PS3 and I love it! (Uncharted is the defiantly the best game of the console.) And the only reason I don't have an Xbox 360 is because of money. I'm fine with both PS4, and Xbox One. I'm just tired of everyone else not being fine with Nintendo. It seems like every time they do something, people will complain.
Thanks for your time!
(Also, Yesterday I saw a Miiverse post of someone who said "I just switched from Xbox to Wii U! Best choice in my life!". It made me happy... )
@Jaz007
Ahhh, I see. I just figured I shouldn't touch base with that argument. Anyways, I don't really give a crap about Sony IPs anyway. There could be an Uncharted, inFamous, Jak and Dexter, Ape Escape, PS all Stars, Little Big Planet, etc all on day one, and I still wouldn't care about PS4.
Sorry about the last comment I was cranky last night. Anyways just stop worrying about it, it's just unnecessary stress, just play the games you love and who cares what anyone else says. We're all entitled to our opinions and well people are just gonna say bad things about Nintendo, but there's really no need to worry because they're basically just words and they don't know if Nintendo will fail (and come on they haven't failed yet). Also it's just something fanboys do they bash the other consoles they don't like. Personally I hate fanboys because gaming is all about the games people! Who cares what system they're on, the graphics, and how childish or mature the games are. If they're good and you like them go for it. No reason to whine or even deny yourself a good game because you wanna be a blind fanboy. Fanboys are just people that want an excuse to segregate other groups and find and a reason to pick a fight with them.

There is nothing wrong with your post what so ever. The earth (and gaming "community") needs more people like you!
My issue with Nintendo is that they're supposed to have this enormous stockpile of cash from the Wii/DS years, yet they clearly didn't put it to good use, ie: buying up development studios to work on WiiU. I don't just mean some, I mean A LOT of new blood.
Clearly they can't rely on third parties, so what I think they should have done was made a budget HD system with an ordinary controller, and then... (here's the clever bit) MAKE LOTS OF GAMES FOR IT. Outsource the smaller IPs like Star Fox and F-Zero to second parties, so that we get a steady stream of classic Nintendo games. Because at the end of the day, that is why people buy Nintendo systems right?
Ditch the gadgets and focus on the games I say.
There's even worse, Apple's four different versions of the iPad have been called

Eh, well at least with the iPhone there is a clear progression. With the iPad you can go into the shop and ask for an iPad and they'll say "iPad 2 or iPad?" and you'll assume that the iPad 2 is the newer product. Before you see the price. To make things worse the iPad "3" had a retina display but didn't make a deal about it and how the iPad "4" IS making a deal about it.... so an uninformed consumer just looking at the box would probably think that's a new thing.
Compared to that the Wii U is very clear about what it is.

Tablets have become more like Laptops so there's no need for a new version name every year especially, when people know when the next upgrade is coming. Phones however still need the numbering and even that doesn't always help.
WAT!
Hey check out my awesome new youtube channel shingi70 where I update weekly on the latest gaming and comic news form a level headed perspective.

@skywake Actually, it should be noted that the iPhone 4, if I recall right, did include Siri. According to Wikipedia, it's been around since the 3GS.
Edit: Oops, it was added to older devices after the S4, my apologies

This made me laugh.. lol
One of the problems though is that console development begins even before the previous console releases. They picked a direction for their next console before they ever knew the Wii would be a success (in terms of sales).
It may have been best for Nintendo fans though for them to scrap the tablet this gen, catch up to Microsoft and Sony in terms of power, and try the tablet next gen when the technology is cheaper. Instead they chose the tablet over power, and from what I've seen, that tablet is not worth missing out on nearly every third party game being made (besides the ports from last gen.. lol)
Don't worry, OP! Just play the games you like and hopefully each of the "big three" will have a solid niche this generation. If all else fails, you could always join us as part of the PC Master Race, as well! Then, instead of getting upset with people making fun of Nintendo, you can actually scoff at all of them for missing the forest for the trees!

I'm not dissing you here, so, I just want to tell you, I like the idea of the tablet, at least Nintendo bring something new to the table, to the console. Most of the time in Sony and Microsoft, they tend to just put more graphics, which is while it's not a bad thing, but I want to see more innovation! I mean, yeah, they have awesome games, but well, the controls? Is there anything new in the new consoles? I know there's probably more than graphics, but that's the main thing people said... so yeah. ^^;;
I also can't diss other consoles because I never bought one, so... my opinion is clearly very biased.
Now let me just say this before I start, I never owned an Xbox 360 or Playstation 3 simply because of time, money, and the games just didn't appeal to me. The problem I see with this next generation of consoles, is that the games look too similar to what we've been playing for the last 6 or 7 years with slightly better graphics. I know two of the consoles haven't even launched yet, and we might see more creative titles later in their lifespan, but there's nothing that really stands out as something that couldn't have been done before. That's just my opinion though, if you're excited for some of the upcoming games this year, that's great.

Sorry if I offend you.
You're talking to someone that gets called a variety of interesting names on a daily basis, I'm probably the least easily offended person on the Internet. lol
I know some people will like the changes Nintendo brings every gen, the problem is that Nintendo cannot move the industry to fit its desires. Sony and Microsoft roll out smaller changes because they want to be the mainstream source of video game technology. When Nintendo does crazy things like whip out a tablet and not bring the hardware power up to date, a lot of developers and publishers look at it as if its not a viable platform. With the PS4 and X1, there are additional options available (Kinect, PS Move) but they're not forced upon developers. Nintendo pretty much threw a tablet at devs and told them they need to use this somehow. lol.
I know where Nintendo fans are coming from, but this will be a constant fight against the video game industry for as long as Nintendo goes this direction. The architecture involved in developing on their platforms is not dev friendly and they will suffer because of it.
I think a nice alternative would have been for the Wii U to have an entirely different name to avoid confusion, hardware that is architecturally similar and similar in power to the newer consoles, and to sell the tablet separately as an additional option. There's a much higher probability they would have attracted third party devs, they could have launched a much powerful console, and could have still had the tablet benefits for those who wanted them. This probably isn't reasonable due to how much they invested in that tablet, but that is a seemingly much nicer alternative than what they've done.
@AlexSays
Well, at least by now it seems Wii U will get a lot of indie developers though. From what I see in the article it seems to reach more than 1,000 developers, which means it'll bring a lot of games... of questionable qualities too. I don't know too much of indie developers, but most of the things I heard is that they are mostly good and innovative titles.
I agree with that different name, but that tablet being sold separately? I think that'll make Wii U the same as PS4 and X1. Both of them has that kind of ability, provided you have the item of course, unless Nintendo sells the tablet at a loss, they can't compete with that.
But in a way, I don't want any of the developers to fail, competitiveness is good. ^^ Without competitiveness, we lose innovation, and without innovation, we'll get stuck at the same thing.

What you just described was the Xbox One(smartglass being an option, with more console power).
Nintendo has already addressed why they do what they do. They said it's not a good thing to have too many similar consoles on the market.
If Wii U was any different than what it is, that would probably be more damaging to the industry.
So Nintendo needs to either have a weaker console, or a stronger console. Regardless, we're not gonna have 2 identical consoles. That would be stupid.
Even PS4 and Xbox One are different, despite having closer specs to each other than Wii U.
The power and kiddie association with consoles is void. They need to coexist to exist at all.

I think you're reinforcing what I was saying. The PS4 and X1 aren't the exact same, they have differences, are close in power, yet are able to coexist. Nobody is asking the Wii U to replicate either console, so why couldn't Nintendo also be in the same ballpark when it comes to power in addition to having this optional method for playing games?
People act as if there has to be either new methods of playing games OR increased hardware power. I don't see why attempting to have both isn't feasible, especially given that developers intentionally avoid the console because of its limitations.
Kinect and SmartGlass are entirely different than having a tablet as a primary controller. The idea that the Wii U would enjoy less success because its too similar to other consoles or because it has too much power isn't well substantiated, or even popular outside this forum. Rather, most Wii U owners I know would love for the console to be a bit more powerful and have a shot at playing some of these newer multiplatform titles. You can cite Nintendo and say 'well that's what they want to do' but that doesn't mean people are required to be happy with that decision.
