Rayman Legends completely misses the point of what makes a platformer good in the first place.
Anything Ubisoft cannot be trusted on metacritic (See the discrepancy between the Watchdogs critic reviews and the user scores).
I suppose its unique in that it is not completely broken just has no redeeming qualities (Or resale value).
Mah... I found rayman legend a lot more various, entertaining and well done generally then the last 2d mario... Playing with friends is a blast, clever use of the gamepad (not just draw new platforms for ur plumber) and good challenges (time levels are hard)... Plus the daily and weekly challenges (take note nintendo...)
But hey, that s me... I guess other ppl dodn t like it, some maybe cos on the box is wrotten Ubisoft (2nd evil company in the world after EA)...
Gotta say, I think the non-Wii U versions of Rayman Legends are the superior versions, where the Murphy levels are transformed back into your typical non-touch platforming style. More of the core platforming for your buck.
But I do give Ubi kudos for at least thinking outside of the box when it came to gamepad utilization.

Have u ever played such levels on wiiu in coop? Cos that is when the fun come... One platforming and the other try to assist, 80% of the time doing some disaster

No, I've only played it single player as far as the Murphy levels, but I can see for sure how that would be great local co-op.
For what it's worth, I didn't like NSMBU all that much. Mario Galaxy was better by a million miles, and 3D World looks better than it, too. I guess I just like the 3D ones more, but...I just feel they phone the 2D ones in...
Atari 2600, Commodore 64/128, Sega Genesis, 32X, Sega CD, PC, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, Wii, PSP, DSi, PS3, 3DSXL, WiiU
Well, outside of art style, I think NSMBU makes sense as a launch title, it's a popular, good selling franchise, it probably isn't production intensive, thus you have a quick, cheap development run, nice for a new console......while also allowing for somewhat of an easy learning curve into the HD world.
The pitfall was the 9 month gap before we saw any other quality first party titles.
Rayman is not for me. But I'm somewhat snobbish about my platformers lol
NO NO NO. You're doing it wrong! You're not supposed to have self-awareness or acknowledgement that your opinions aren't definitve truth. You need to smugly enter a thread with your definitively correct opinion and unironically assume that "it sucks" is some brilliantly thought out statement that will automatically make people see the errors in their gaming ways instead of hackneyed nothing adolescent wastes of people's time. How dare you act like a cool person!
I got NSMBU with my Wii U Deluxe back in April 2013. I was a little underwhelmed with it at the time of purchase. I was expecting something more like Super Mario 3d World. BUT, I still played it a fair amount over last summer. I put it down for a while and have picked it back up in recent months. That game is like an old friend that I can leave and pick back up again where I left off.
Rayman is better than NSMBU, but I still like the Mario series better overall.
The trick to the new Rayman games is to play them in multiplayer.
to be a little fair, New Super Mario Bros Wii didn't lose me until I tried to play it again single player.
But yeah, Legends was my GOTY last year, if only barely and only because of its amazing multiplayer that actually fully sold me on the asymmetric gameplay. The constant use of brilliant and natural ideas of how to use that were amazing and the amount of content for a 2D platformer is amazing. And while I admit it's not among the best level designs ever or anything, I feel it did pretty well, especially considering how they had to simultaneously focus on making it work with multiple people and with constant Gamepad use while also making a solid platformer in general. And it isn't like NSMBWii had even 1/5 of the thought put into why X level works like the old Mario games did. And from my understanding, even the apparently better NSMBU was basically only made for multiplayer and its DLC horribly flawed outside of single player. Whereas Rayman Legends was still pretty awesome in single player, if not on the level of DKC Returns.
I 2nd this, Rayman Origins and Legends are absolute trash.
They're Audio/Visual first and gameplay 2nd...
I've been informed that Legends is basically an expansion upon Origins.
Origins isn't the worst game ever but it's hard to appreciate something that's unsure of what it wants to do or what other platform games do better (Yoshi's Island). There's no consistency with its level design. The aethetics are not noteworthy as it's clearly traced water colors and that soundtrack! It is beyond annoying. 'Whine, whine, hummmm, hummmm, chime!'
There's nothing rewarding about completing a world or earning a medal. There's no challenge, no exploration, no replay value. The unlockables do not, and I repeat do not, enhance the experience in any way, shape or form. Nothing you would expect to make a level, an area, or an entire world better, is present in the bulk of the game (unless you pretended it did). Innovative, creative, well done boss battles? Nonexistent.
Origins does one thing right: the controls. Once you get used to them, that is.
Yup, I agree. I loved a Link between Worlds, but I still didn't like the aesthetic that much. New Yoshi's Island wasn't a good game, but again, I hated the aesthetics as soon as I saw it; I'm still surprised that the twenty-something year old original game managed to look more appealing.
Uh... What happened? Did I end up on the wrong site for this post?
So, just to make sure I followed this right...
NSMBU has dull aesthetics...
Rayman is trash...
A Link Between Worlds looks like a flash game...
And now Mario Kart 7 looks like plastic...
I love the look and play of all of these games. I think A Link Between Worlds looks great compared to Phantom Hourglass and in it's own way. I think Mario Kart 7 is one of the best looking 3DS games available. I still think it looks great today! I don't own NSMBU, but I've played the demo a few times at GameStop and I think it looks nice and crisp. I don't have an issue with it. I DO own NSMB2 and I think it looks good, too. If you don't like blurry backgrounds, turn off the 3D. In my opinion, the blur adds even more depth. As for Rayman, I've not played the demo as often as NSMBU nor have I played another entry in the series, but from what I remember, it wasn't trash. You can't take the music away from a game to critique it. The music is PART of the game, part of the intended feel of the game COMES from the music. If the game is improved in any way by the music, THEN THE MUSIC IS DOING IT'S JOB.
As long as the visuals don't affect how the game PLAYS, I'm fine. That being said, there is a line. I'm not going to play a game comprised of a few blocks as graphics and be told "Here's the game." I'll gladly play a game with N64/PS1 graphics if the game plays well. I'll play a PS4/XB1/PC graphic level game if it plays well. If I can tell what everything is supposed to be, that's fine. A plastic-y looking game is fine if it's fun. A realistic looking game is fine if it's FUN.
TL;DR
NSMBU looks fine to me and plays well, too. I don't really have a reason to complain.
I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite
