Wow. I just laugh at all of these responses. I waited for a while for you guys to actually say something other than "ALttP is better because the dungeons are better," and all sorts of other stuff. I just KNEW that you guys would say that.
Dude, no one said that. All your complaints for ALttP are ten times worse in OoT.
Also, about The Legend of Zelda and Link's Awakening, the former was basically an open world for you to explore to your heart's content (though combat still sucked, but hey, I love exploring open worlds; that’s why Super Metroid is my favorite game, but that’s another topic)
Yeah, that's the point. If you're only looking at the combat and the dungeons, then of course you won't understand why it's so great.
"ALttP is better because the dungeons are better," and all sorts of other stuff. I just KNEW that you guys would say that.
No one cares about your opinion. And no one in their right mind should argue with your opinion. But from this quote alone you're an *******. It seems like you just wanted to start arguments and controversy for no reason other to just be doing something.
Just for you. "I'm just a musical prostitute, my dear." - Freddie Mercury
Maybe I should start a topic titled "Why Do People Like Super Metroid?" And then, talk about how Super Metroid is not a bad game, but a bad Metroid game. And compare it to Metroid Prime Hunters and say that Super Metroid isn't good because it's not like that game. And then, if anyone disagrees with me I'll laugh at them and say "I knew you were all going to say that." Yeah, that sounds like a good idea...

I love Zelda II because it is Link in his most difficult adventure. Ocarina Master Quest isn't that difficult, Majora's Mask isn't that difficult, Skyward Sword's Hero Mode isn't that difficult, and Zelda 1 Game B isn't that difficult.
It's the hardcore game for when the timeline of Hyrule and the life in that legendary land was in really old and bad ages, where you needed prehistoric reflexes to block the enemy, and jumping and stabbing your dagger into them gannon demon hordes fast and often, in always dark black dungeons with deadly pits of lava. It is a good game because the gameplay is different to any other game (not just Zelda)! Well, ok there was Battle of Olympus later and a few other clones. Yeah Zelda II made a new genre popular. Sidescrolling RPGs. I love them. Too bad there were only few of them. But even then Zelda II is still unique among them. And once you beat this game you know it's great because it is such a reward. And finally the music is very catchy and memorable - should not forget to mention that!
Haha I'm guessing you're sitting back and enjoying the mayhem.
I actually agree to an extent. I only had ALttP for my GBA, so I don't really have that nostalgia factor going for me. I was all about Megaman X and Donkey Kong in my SNES days. But I'd have to agree. I found it rather boring as well. I never cared for OoT either though. Also boring. I dunno. We were all about Nintendo up until we got a PlayStation. The original Zelda will always be my favorite. I enjoyed the Minish Cap as well. I bought a GameCube cheap years after they came out and loved Wind Waker too, so I'd add that to my list.
I actually find Zelda 2 to be one of the easiest Zelda games. Its a great game that is fun to play, but the random battles in the overhead parts I found annoying, but they were good fo easy level building with the arcade control (forgot what it was called) rapid fire and something to weight the button down. Great game, but a lot of the Castlevania games on the Gameboy advance/DS did the whole sidescrolling RPG better.
With all due respect.
Both Zelda 2 and Mario 2 were very different from anything in the series, both were great games, just very different.
I really don't like Link to the Past, and I could not figure out why, so I googled "I don't like Link to the Past" and found this topic.
I got Zelda 1 on virtual console, one of the best games I ever played, could not put it down, and beat in 2 days with some guide help.
Realistically it seemed A Link to the Past I would like even more, and decided to buy it for virtual console. I once got stuck in it in my younger years, but no matter, I have more patience for games now.
Well I tried it again to the 2nd dungeon in the dark world and got stuck and realized I had no motivation to keep playing. But why? I should like it if it is similar to Zelda 1 right? Wrong.
I find the graphics ugly as death. I just do. Even Zelda 1 is better for me. I love the blocky graphics there, love the creepy dungeons, everything about it I eat up like its gold.
I find the dungeons in Link to the Past overlarge, ugly, and repetitive by comparison. I just watched a speedrun today while playing some Hyrule Warriors and found that even the dungeons I never got to I had zero interest in. The whole game just blurs together.
Zelda 1
Four swords for gamecube
Hyrule warriors
Links Awakening
Have been my favorites. Link to the past may be revolutionary to you guys, to me it is a misfire and not fun. They outdid themselves with Zelda 1 and did not improve on it.
Before this thread gets locked for necromancy, I will say that I agree with the OP that Zelda II is more fun than ALttP. I also agree with this new post that ALttP is generally not much to look at with regards to style. I know this has everything to do with the year I was born, but I find the 3D Zeldas way more interesting and fun. (Though I think I might have played ALttP first, but during the 3D era.)
