I don't think there's one hard and fast rule that will tell you why some people don't worship Zelda; everyone who doesn't has their own reasons. For me, it just got too samey and repetitive for me to truly enjoy it any more. Last Zelda game I enjoyed was the Wind Waker, and the true reason I liked it so much was because I loved the visual style and wanted to see what other cel-shaded beauties lied further ahead, not because I still enjoyed the formula. :3

I truly hope this next Zelda is able to overcome my feelings, though. Let me tell you, it hurts me to say "I don't enjoy Zelda very much anymore," because I used to love it so damn much, and I don't really want to lose it.

Sometimes I confuse the two, to be honest. ^ _ ^;

I guess the easiest way to answer this question is with an example:

You could run a poll with the following questions:
1) Would you like world peace?
2) Assume there is a heaven and hell, and you can choose with no consequences, would you choose heaven?
3) Do you believe that air, food and/or water is essential for survival?

And none of them would get 100% "yes" given a large enough pool. (Say, 50-100 people)

That's just how it goes, not everyone will approve of any one thing. I don't like FPS's, so Halo and MW doesn't appeal to me. No matter how much of masterpieces they may be, and I absolutely agree that they are, I just can't physical enjoy playing them.

I also don't have the time for 60+ hour epics anymore and would rather play something short that I know I'll complete. If a typical playthrough takes 15+ hours then I start to hesitate on even beginning it. Now, 8-hour games, love those.

This is me pretty much. I only bought Twilight Princess to use the hack functionality, but then I figured I might as well give it a try. It wasn't a bad game, but I hated having to use walkthoughs for parts (the moving statue puzzle really really pissed me off -- it's an action game, I don't want to play some kind of sliding puzzle game in the middle of it!) and it just went on and on and on. After that I just couldn't face Okami (in addition to it having weaker motion controls than Zelda).

Having said all that I'm prepared to give the next Zelda the benefit of the doubt -- especially if it has the hand-holding feature from New Super Mario Bros. Wii. If the story is a total retread, well, I don't feel the need to play the same game twice!

I suppose it really depends what games you like or what you are used to. I could easily pick up a Zelda or Mario game and be completely lost in Halo, however for other people it would be the opposite way round. I find it a bit far however when someone I know comes up to me and says that i'm a nerd just because I play Zelda.

I've never seen someone who hates Zelda. I know people who haven't even heard of it, but that doesn't mean they hate it.

Zelda is the best. Ever. No franchise can ever beat it.

The Game.

Is it after 9PM EST? You should probably ignore the above post.

A majority of people I know only play the Wii for Zelda alone. I'm not a huge fan of Zelda though. I only like Link To The Past and Ocarina Of Time. The others were decent. I'm just not really into long adventure/RPG's in general, I'm an arcade style kind of guy. Games that can be completed quickly for high scores, and with lots of hidden options and things like that. A game that takes days, weeks, or even months to beat, I don't enjoy much or really have the time for. So Zelda, I never got into.

It's a perfectly valid question. I myself have always like Zelda though I've been slowly getting a little bored with the series. I'm just working on Twilight Princess now. Wind Waker I got bored of a little bit early despite it being a really good game. I enjoyed the sailing it just felt like there was too much sailing. I may play it some more, I only just started it about 9 months ago for the first time. It's probably a tighter game than Twilight Princess overall it's just the over abundance of water put me off a little. Twilight Princess is good but doesn't feel as perfect as previous iterations.

I can see people getting frustrated with the puzzles but I like them a fair bit and I think that's the strongest point of Twilight Princess. I think there are two types of people that don't like Zelda. The ones that prefer a more in depth RPG with a truly epic story, multiple towns, hundreds of items, weapons, armor, and leveling and the ones that like more action oriented games like arcade games, fps, etc. I like almost all games because they all give me a different experience. Sometimes I want fast paced action other times I want a more relaxing experience.

Patience. Some people like me might not have the patience to play the Zelda games. I guess that it has to do with the fact that most of the games I've played are more straight-forward. Now if I was about 5 or 6 years younger, this post would've been a Zelda bashing post. I know for a fact I had even less patience back then and I would've hated Zelda games. I guess people like me are just destined to dislike Zelda. I am.

Honestly I am not the hugest Zelda fan anymore either. I used to be, but it has been going downhill for me since A link to the Past. OOT was the last one I liked and the rest after have just been disappointments to me. Except I haven't played ST. It really gets annoying though when people say they can't understand why anyone would hate a particular game or series, just based on their own experience of the game. In particular I couldn't stand Twilight Princess, but I recognize that the game has its fans. When the new one comes out on Wii, I will probably be very cautious.

Luckily for everyone here who says the OOT formula is getting stale, some bigshot at Nintendo (it was either Iwata or Miyamoto) said the next Zelda game with have a completely new framework to it. Zelda II-style 3D gameplay, anyone? Just kidding.

I'm pretty sure I think I'm funnier than I really am.

Yes please.
I really don't think a 2.5D Zelda game is out of the question.
In fact, I'm just going to go ahead and predict a 2.5D Zelda in Q4 2011 followed by a 3D Zelda in Q2 2012.
Or maybe 2012 and 2013.

Hopefully it'll be called "Zelda III."

On-topic... I think a lot of people that are disinterested in Zelda grew up with the Playstation.
I have a friend that grew up with a Playstation and had never played a Zelda game.
He saw me playing Zelda II and thought it looked awesome, though.

Sorry guys, I honestly don't know why I posted this thread. I think I was pissed off about something (though I assure you it wasn't about this).

They say that about every Zelda game though. Twilight Princess was meant to be a reinvention, it wasn't. Spirit Tracks was meant to bring all new innovative features, it didn't.

I am reserving judgement to see what they do with the new Zelda. I would love for it to blow me away like Ocarina of Time did, but I'm not holding my breath.

The only series worse in this regard is the 2D Castlevanias. Carbon copies of SotN

No need to apologize. Sometimes when you enjoy something so much it is hard to understand why some do not. I guess the differences of interests and preferences in life is what make us unique.
