Feel free to use this thread to fondly remember what I believe is easily one of the best RPGs of all time and certainly a GameCube great. Playing through it again thanks to Funky Gamer, and I am continuously blown away by this game's humor, charm, visuals, and story at every corner as I again attempt to gather the seven crystal stars and save a certain princess, who, by the looks of it, is not in Hooktail's castle.

Ah, there was something oddly great about Paper Mario & TTYD. It was one of the first games where I could play for 10 or more hours and still find entertaining. It's disappointing that Super Paper Mario couldn't recapture that magic for me.

Thanks given to Xkhaoz for that one avatar.

Hooktail reminds me of Lord Valoo (I'm sure I spelled his name right) in Wind Waker for some odd reason. lol

@Xk Same here. You can right past wrongs like I am now, it's not too late!
@NintyFan What's the second world again? I agree that the wrestling tournament place was really awesome.
@Kingbuilder Agreed.
@V8 I still liked Super Paper Mario quite a bit, but it doesn't even come close to this masterpiece.
@Bell I see the resemblance, especially since they're both stylized first-party games on the GameCube.

Still my number one favourite game, hasn't been beaten yet (in my opinion). Glitzville was amazing, and I agree, the second world was tedious. Every time I play this game through I like it even more, just because I learn new strategies. I actually just recently conquered the Pit of 100 trials, !!!!

2nd world was the Boggly Woods, Glitsville was fun the first time since I couldn't figure out who was the villain there. Making me guess from Rawk Hawk to Jolene. xD

TTYD remembrance thread? Really? I feel old now.

Anyway TTYD was great but it isn't the definitive MARIO RPG (emphasis on Mario) like Paper Mario was and despite some improvements 3 of the chapters legitimately felt less fun than Flower Fields most of the time (chapters 2, 4 and 5) and occasionally the humor tries too hard. It doesn't help that it was ANOTHER game in 2004 that was dissappointing in someway (being a sequel to one of my favorite games ever and only being awesome instead of incredibly awesome).

It is a great game though. Almost certainly the best GCN RPG (except for maybe Dreamcast ports) and it probably has the best story in a Mario game ever.

also I hate the person who ripped the music that you find when listening to the music online as the only versions you can find of a few of the songs are ruined by annoying sound effects and most of them don't even loop. Speaking of which, I was on a Mario RPG forum when the game came out and you won't believe the insanity that came from people just looking for music from this game. (this was before youtube and Galbadia Hotel) It caused the site to crash a lot and any other site that had the music as well. It also single handedly lead to a giant newb invasion on that forum, only a couple of which were intelligent, nice people and stayed for more than TTYD music.

The year was 2004. I had just gotten my GameCube. I was disappointed with Super Mario Sunshine, as it was hardly a Mario game. I wanted something more traditional.

While browsing the games section of my local Target, I happened to spot a game called Paper Mario: the Thousand Year Door. It had many traditional Mario things on its cover, so I figured I'd give it a shot.

I loved it instantly, and was hooked forever. With its references, inside jokes, great plot, and fun gameplay, I quickly grew to love the Paper Mario series.

When I got a Wii, I decided I had to get Virtual Console games. Paper Mario was one of my first downloads, along with Star Fox 64. The first game is just as good as the second, if not better. I also had Super Paper Mario (which I'd gotten before the first game), and it felt obviously very different from TYD, but it was the first (and thus far only) Mario game I've ever beaten. When Super Mario RPG came out, I got it out of curiosity for the first Mario RPG game. I've loved it ever since, and have gotten at least halfway twice.

I liked this game a long time ago when it came out I think it was my first rpg. I rebought this game three times because I used to sell my games after a while but now I never do and I wish I wouldn't have. I don't own it right now but I want to play it again.

Damnit, thanks to that I thought this I somehow thought this entire topic was about Sonic Colors and made a long and complicated post involving multiple quotes, based on my misinterpretations throughout. There were some many jokes, so many wasted opportunities...

I loved that game. I still like the original over TTYD, but that's because I haven't played through it again since I was a kid (and couldn't understand nor appreciate good humor). I think it's high time I play through it again
