It had a really great library of quality games.

It feels like the last of the old time Japan dominated video games world home console. I wish we had HD and modern versions of the types of games we had on Gamecube, instead of endless shooters, generic jump scare horror, and stealth-based sequels.

(INB4 someone names an example of those genres on Gamecube, there was a lot of variety in it's medium sized library)

I dislike how it isn't on VC yet

A lot of the time I feel like the DREAMCAST-PS2-XBOX-GAMECUBE era was the last great console generation. The Wii-PS3-Xbox 360 era had a lot of good games but there was something about the early to mid 2000's that was still above what we had since.

Anyway, the GCN was home to a lot of good exclusive titles. It has my favorite versions if Smash Bros, Fzero, and Mario Kart.

There's plenty of variety now. :/ Though I guess the Wii U is a bit heavy on Platformers...

Not that the GCN Xbox, and PS2 didn't have the greatest libraries of games from now until forever, I'm just saying...things are still pretty damn good, even if they haven't quite hit that height yet.

Would love a re release of Rogue Squadron 2, this is the best Star Wars game on any system. I would love to know the real reason for no GC VC

It's just so...so... so perfect. No shooters, few sports games, COUNTLESS exclusives, and the best versions of many generational games like MK:DD!! and Melee. Perfect controller, Gameboy Player, Gems like Resident Evil 4 and Pikmin. SIX RESIDENT EVILS! Reliable and good console design(unlike Wii) and so much more

Gamecube is more reliable with better design than Wii? That is something I heavily agree on, here here. Also, you should change your user to GamecubeIsBest.

GameCube?!?! I thought it was just called the "Kirby Air Ride Player"!!

Seriously though, the GC was my family's first Console, and it has a lot of amazing games, as well as my personal favorite multiplayer game of all time, Kirby Air Ride! (If you hadn't guessed yet. ) It also introduced me into some great series, like Animal Crossing and Smash. (Although when I was little I didn't enjoy Melee that much, and today it's still my least favorite besides the N64 one. Don't kill me!)

I like makin' games!
Future Pinball games!
Petit Computer games!!
and SmileBASIC games!
Waiting for Kirby Air Ride 2. One day, it will come. One day...

I had a Gamecube. I have lots of fun with it. I played Double Dash!! to the end.

Still, saying that is the best console ever, only based in subjective opinions is the kind of arrogance I dislike from modern gamers. It has many design issues (to the one that said it has a better design than the wii, seriously?! the GC looked like a preschoool toy. The wii was more elegant and practical.), philosophy issues (it was a box so miyamoto and his pals as well as their fanboy base) could have fun and not the mainstream gamers. The controller is so damn illogical, even worse than the N64 one.

Don't forget that this console was a sales failure. There's a reason why they decided to go back to Nintendo roots with the Wii and made the controller less weird looking.

I love the Gamecube. Almost none of that is true. Especially the entire first sentence. There at least 8 shooters. Nintendo even published 2 of them. It also had a lot of Sports games, even excluding the Mario ones. My brother had a whole stack of them...It had a lot of exclusives, but it actually had less than the PS2 (I don't think any console could match that system in sheer volume, though). The "Best Generation games" are up to personal tastes, but I'm finding a lot of them to be "second bests" myself. The controller was not perfect. The C-Stick was terrible and rarely used for camera control. The lack of a Z-2 button and the general button layout made porting difficult. The "analogue shoulder buttons" were a neat idea, but it was...kinda hard to get down for a lot of the games that used it. Gameboy Player was neat and the Gems is definitely true. Was there really 6 Resident Evils? What was the 6th? I only recall 0-4...and since when was the Wii unreliable?

Even though the GC wasn't the huge success, I thought Nintendo were heading on the right track by getting back some decent 3rd party support. Shame things turned out the way they did.

This is a thread that lets people comment on why they liked/disliked the Nintendo Gamecube. Think of it as a love letter.
Feel free to state all your thoughts about it here. I'll go first, I love the Gamecube because it was the first console that I played, along with it's friendly design, spectacular games, and wonderful controller. For me, it's the definitive Nintendo Console. In my opinion, nothing beats GCN. All opinions are welcome.

My first one was the SNES but I agree a lot with you. GameCube offered awesome graphics, usually better than many Wii games (Mario Kart is an example). My early model even outputs digital signal (Wii doesn't) and the controller is the best I've used until the PS4 controller which I think is just perfect.

GameCube also included the possibility of moving save files for the first time in a Nintendo console, the discs are cute but too small (I have some games that need more than one dics). The console design is brilliant, I know some people don't like it but I think it's the best Nintendo design ever.

Besides, the game library is a collector's dream.

And most of all, I think Nintendo should go back to GameCube philosophy with the next console, I mean, a powerful and easy console. The Wii and Wii U used weird controls to attract players but that idea was dying even before the Wii U was released, that's why the final times for Wii were bad and that's why Wii U is unsuccessful.

The GameCube was not a failure, 22 millions were sold, and that number would be much higher if the PS2 wasn't so easy to hack into. PS2 number is 158 millions and Xbox sales were 25 millions.

I really don't like the navigation bar of Nintendo Life continuously reappearing while browsing!!

I love my GameCube; I still have my Silver GameCube. It has some of my favorite games ever, and the controller is just the best. I don't even care for for its lunch box design.
The only GameCube con: Outdated by today's standard. But only because it was a 2001 console.

The Wii U will have some tough competition shoving GameCube off the throne of "My Favorite Console."

God first.

I loved it because it still had the Nintendo difference but it also had Sega in abundance. Its games didn't bore me after a couple of hours like most PS2 games did. EA were in a purple patch of making good games that they've struggled to rekindle in the last two gens. It has the pinnacle of many of gaming's finest franchises and I loved the on-screen colours that seemed to be different from the PS2 version of most games.

I hated it because even when Nintendo made their best games for it, they lacked the scope and ambition of Nintendo's N64 efforts. Gamecube was my favourite console of that generation but the majority of the best games were on PS2. Games like Wind Waker were a few dungeons short of being a classic Zelda and Twilight Princess was loads of side quests short of being a classic.

I only posted this to get my avatar as the forum's thumbnail.

Agreed.
This is my favorite platform. I really liked it and it's high quality library of games, from Luigi's Mansion to LOZ: Wind Waker.
