I only have one physical game on my Xbox one that isn't included with game pass. So yeah I'd consider an all digital version too.

I don't really have any plans to get an xbox sx though.

If it's quiet enough to please @zuljaras, it'll be a the engineering equal of a zero waste nuclear reactor.

@blueocean @redd214 Yeah that size sounds about right. It's pretty compact looking to me. Im not seeing the "it's a pc" thing at all unless you're comparing it to a Nuc or apple mini.

@ThanosReXXX Since when is the modern take on gaming PCs minimalism? Sure that's SteelSeries schtick. But everyone else is still pushing flashy, most advertising in the genre is as well. I'd say maybe it's an American thing, but they're just flogging stuff that's big in Asia here.

Plus any esports video (with product placement) is flush with flashy. Xsx definitely looks more subtle, refined, and utilitarian than gaming pcs.

It's a good look. Consistent with x1x design language, a stylish but subtle look, and Practical, simple designs. Very nice, very appliance... Very not pc, and very compact (not sure why people are saying it's so big and indicates power. Og xbox did that. The disc slot and controller show it's nice and small. Not sure if it's the same volume as x1x, less, or more, but relatively small, continuing x1x idea of shrinking the box.

@Anti-Matter probably an e3 announcement to counter an initially high sounding launch price with a cheaper option. Got to admit, id be interested in a digital model if the price is right since xbox if the only platform I've gone all digital on, because it's the only platform that lets you keep offline copies of game backups.

Yeah, that's about what I reckon too, @redd214 .... Especially as it can lay sideways, for people who don't have a TV stand or something, where there isn't so much vertical space. It's just the poster made it look huge! I expect we'll get proper pictures & exact dimensions fairly soon, though
I don't like those flashy computers, either, @ThanosReXXX, so I got mine with a black plain looking case that's a lot like the Series X design! Probably about twice as deep but roughly the same otherwise.

If you think about it, the new consoles are just called "Xbox" while Series X is like the model specification. You are in a shop, you are going to buy "an Xbox" and there are two or three models: Series X, Series S, Series ADE (All-Digital Edition)... It makes sense because they are new, they are backwards compatible to an extent, there will be more models and the generation walls are no longer there.

It's really nice that controllers are backwards and forwards compatible too so if you decided to keep an Xbox One you'd already have two controllers for each or you can share controllers with a friend with an S or X. That's one thing I dislike about Switch, that I can't use my Wii U pro controller on Switch and Nintendo force users to buy a new and expensive controller just for Switch even if they only need it for a few games.

@NEStalgia Well, you've probably already given the answer. I could have jokingly said "only in America", but that would actually be at least half-true, because over here, these kinds of PC's really aren't popular, and are primarily used by the mod crowd, who often make their own, even far more garish designs, and as you mentioned, the eSports community, but they obviously need to stand out, so there it actually serves a purpose.

Mine is also a simple black tower case, much like @BruceCM's PC. And it sits under my desk anyway, so nobody is looking at it for prolonged periods of time, unless you wanna create a double chin...

And having it emit light or flashy patterns, coming out from under that desk would only be distracting, especially when I'm working at my desk or using the PC for daily things, such as commenting on website forums...

As for why people are saying all these things about it, that seems simple enough: it looks far bigger and bulkier than the previous three models, so in comparison to that, this looks like a design harking back to Microsoft's PC origins. Pretty obvious to me, really.

@Eel No, it was Xbox (original idea), Xbox 360 and Xbox One. Now it's just Xbox like Apple's or Google's branding styles.

Eel

Nope, it's always just the Xbox plus the current model.

You just didn't have an obvious word like "series" being part of the name.

I think the name "Xbox Series X" is dumb and pretty confusing to the average consumer but I like the design a lot, it seems like it encourages amazing thermal performance

Also it's a literal PC tower

@ThanosReXXX the performance gaming pc crowd is the modding roll your own crowd here. At least here only a tiny percentage of pc gamers, and certainly the kind that buys "power" systems would actually buy any prefab system at a 30% plus markup for mediocre specs. And few building their own would be buying a beige) black case. So yeah most gaming systems are flashy. Even if you don't want it. I personally went out of my way to get a black Lian li case for my last pc build years ago. Cost a fortune. Great case. Plain brushed black. But that's a rarity in the field.

I think if @NEStalgia's theory about the XB1X becomes reality, it could be that the device revealed at the Game Awards is the Xbox Two X and the "Xbox Series X" is XB1X, XB2X, etc. with same logic if a "Xbox Series S" exists (XB1S, XB2S, etc.).

@BlueBlur101 I'm pretty sure it will be sold out until January 2021 so maybe it'll be less confusing to the average customer. But really are average customers the ones buying $500 systems. I'm thinking it's the hardcore crowd xbox is aiming at and they will know the difference. Who cares what it looks like. It's what's inside which counts.

@NEStalgia Over here there are specialty stores that make quiet PC's especially for gaming, but they are also "quiet" in their presence in the room, so matte black boxes, pretty much like the new Xbox. So, apparently it's an "only in America" thing after all. Over here, only extreme geeks and basement dwelling losers want Fisher Price lighting on their gaming rigs...

Nope, since I'm in the UK, @ThanosReXXX ... Although most 'gaming PCs' in, say, Curry's have lights on the tower, PC Specialist let you choose from quite a selection of cases Mine was some Corsair 'quiet' something or other, as I went for liquid cooling over lots of fans. I'm sure there are plenty who like the flashy looking ones, as usual, though
