@DarthNocturnal It won't let you start the game without running the app to login, requiring you to task switch back to the game like a PC. It's just....really ungainly. You'd expect console (or for that matter even a PC game) to have the account login stuff built into the game menu. EA does it on XBox. Ubisoft did it for this very game on PS4. It's pretty weird.

@NEStalgia First of all: welcome to the club. Smart choice, you'll get with it in the end, niggles and all...

Second: you don't need to buy an (expensive) head set: you can simply plug in your smart phone ear plugs. I use the ones from my Samsung Galaxy Edge phone. Works like a charm, and you can buy them online for $10.

As for your issues & problems: I don't have problems with the UI. It's fast, comprehensible and completely customizable, so I don't get all the hate it gets from so many people. And one of the buttons on the main screen is "My Games", which takes you directly where you need to go anyway, so...

I also installed the Twitch and YouTube apps right away, which will of course come in handy for game streaming and for the upcoming E3. On the X, you'll be able to watch that in 4K. And yes, I know you don't have a 4K TV, but the difference will still show, even on a 1080p TV.

That drift on the controller's right analog stick is also something that I've never experienced, not on the 360, and not on the One either, so I can't relate to that in any way.

And I simply use the regular controller that came with the console. It's brilliant, and in my opinion the best controller I've ever used, so I don't need a $120 Elite version with idiotic appendages hanging from the underside of it...

And button A in the wrong place? No, not really. The A button is the primary action button, and as such, it needs to be on the bottom of the diamond layout that make up the face buttons. Nintendo always got it wrong, except for with the GameCube controller, in which they at least made it the biggest button, so you could easily find it without looking, but other than that...

I just memorized that A is the button closest to my right thumb, and from there, the other buttons are easy to find without looking as well. Takes a bit of practice perhaps, but people that have either already had an OG Xbox or an Xbox 360 should get used to it in next to no time at all.

Anyway, now that you're on board, send me a PM so I can add you to my friends list. No rush to chat or play, just a connect request so we can share a game (or a chat) whenever it happens. Perhaps you should download Syndicate so we can tackle that together.

Oh, before I forget: my Xbox profile can be found under my profile here. It's not ThanosReXXX, but the old one I had before that...

And one more thing, which is my short list/comparison list of best sites for cheap Xbox Live subscriptions:
(prices vary all year round, so you got a keep an eye on all of them to see which one offers the best deal at any one time)

https://cardscodes.com/index.html
https://www.cdkeys.com/
https://www.techradar.com/news/xbox-live-gold-deals
http://cheapdigitaldownload.com/catalogue/search.php?q=catego...
https://www.carddelivery.com/xbox-live
https://www.gamesdeal.com/xbox-live.html
https://www.instant-gaming.com/en/games/xbox/

All of these sites have currency and country changing buttons, so you'd just have to look around a bit for that, if prices don't default to dollars automatically. (which should happen in most cases)

And an important tip is to also always check the price difference between US region and Worldwide/global region subscriptions. The latter can also be used in the US and is sometimes cheaper than the US cards.

Burnout Revenge is now Backward Compatible. Only 5 more of my library left to go- wait, there are how many original Xbox games on their now?! Whoa...so with that in mind, I'm...back up to 11? No wait, 10, Republic Commando is already B/C.

...so close...

'The console wars are like boobs: Sony and Microsoft fight over which ones look the nicest and Nintendo's are the most fun to play with.'

@ThanosReXXX Ahh, good point about earphones with mics on them. I probably had one of those around at one point....never thought of using those (though in-ear earbuds tend to be uncomfortable to me....I've taken to bone conductor headphones for being out and about most of the time (unless I'm going all audiophile)...which they DO make with a mic on them...but I saved the $15 for something I don't use and went without Still either way, I generally never have opportunities to use VC even if I had the mic. Were I to create the nuisance of VC I might be forced to experience the best of Celine Dion or something in the background. It's not worth the associated risk. We'll see

Yeah, the UI's actually better in some ways than I expected and worse in others. I'll get used to it. I can't say I love it, but I can't decide which I like less between it and PS4...neither is ideal, both are functional. I'm just stunned that MS cant get the UI right ever anymore. They finally NAILED it in Win7, besting Apple at their own game, and then they've lost their minds ever since. Heck, I'm one of the oddballs that liked Vista (the interface, not the driver support...never the driver support.) 8 & 10 (and X1) are just awkward. But PS4 manages to be worse than XMB which was already bad. Switch>WiiU>Vita>all.

Yeah, Twitch and YT are on PS4 too, so I could already have used that. The one thing the X1 gives me though is YTTV which I still have a sub to for now. I have a Roku for that, but the roku is on the TV so this brings it to the gaming monitor... Sony won't let YTTV on their box....competes with their own Vue service.

Oh yeah, 4k streaming, that's why it looked so good. The Roku does it too, but not if you're using a 1080p TV. I bet this was doing the 4k and scaling. I'll have to check that. That's also why my game download must have dropped from 200Mb/s to 25Mb/s while watching

Stick drift. It's always always been an XBox crisis, and they still haven't solved it. Every X360 controller I had did it eventually. Tons of X1 controller complaints about it, TONS of elite controller compalints about it (and an issue with the right bumper separating), though I've heard everyone uses the same sensor modules....my gamepad did it. Sony never has that issue, but again their deadzones and spring tension are terrible so it probably hides it. Some games hide the problem by having a wide deadzone as well. Some people have their Elite for 2 years without issue. Some go through 3 in 4 months. It's an issue of luck and usage somehow.

You sold me on the X1, now I have to sell you on premium controllers Once you get hooked you can't go back. X1 controller is indeed excellent.....for a stock controller. The Razer gives mouse-like movement and perfect button actuation. Hard to go back to normal after that. Elite does much of the same, but the same sloppy buttons as the normal controller, but does it wireless. Hard call.

A button. It's wrong. C'mon you're an arcade guy. The right most button is the ok button, the start button, the king of all buttons. Always hath been, ever shall be, so decreeth the Man of Pac. A lifetime of Nintendo taught me A to the right, X on top. I could get used to Sony doing it wrong because they use different symbols...so easy to train different muscle memory. But on XBox it's Nintendo labels with Sony layout....how do I correct that in my mind? (Ralizah recently told me that in JAPAN, Sony does it the Nintendo way. They reversed it in the West for some odd reason. So XBox is definitely the weird one.) I didn't have trouble on 360 because I hadn't touched Nintendo since the SNES and Virtual Boy and was all PC and PS at the time. But now I've spent many years Nintendo focused again.....really hard to fix that. Remapping may be essential. It's easy for you: You're not keeping THREE button systems in mind

Will do on adding you! I'll have to check what you actually play

BTW, have you looked into Game Pass at all? It's intriguing, but also not "complete" enough in some ways. Since you can drop in and drop out I imagine I'll participate at some point. For $10 it's a full month rental of whatever I want and a 20% discount if I want to buy it. Not bad.

Thanks for the links to sub sellers! I actually used your cdkeys one to buy it this time....it was $50...not too bad really. Not quite black friday cheap but good for the year. It got me AC Syndicate before MGS5 replaces it. Already played most of this one, but it was a good graphics test. Definitely looks better on the 1X than the PS4 base model I last played it on. It was kind of anemic on there. I hadn't tried it on the Pro though to compare.

NEStalgia

ThanosReXXX

@NEStalgia You're welcome.
Didn't expect you to dive in that soon, though. High summer and the end of year holidays are mostly the best times to buy, because around then, the discounts are the best. Then again: codes stay valid for at least a year, so come Christmas, you could always buy an additional code if it is a good offer...

Concerning head phones or ear plugs: as long as they have the right size plug, you can use just about anything, so if you don't like in-ear, get something else. Most wired smart phone mics/ear phones are cheap as heck anyways. And not to worry: you won't be hearing Celine Dion in the background over here any time soon, if ever.

Although, she is part of the new Deadpool soundtrack...

As for the Xbox's interface, don't get me wrong: you'll never hear me say that the UI is the greatest thing since the invention of sliced bread, and the heavens know how much I've cursed Microsoft ever since they modernized the interface on the Xbox 360, but ever since then, I got used to it, and the Xbox One version is actually far more streamlined than the one now on the Xbox 360, so I'm okay with it.

As for that premium controller: I'd say, keep trying/hammering and who knows. I've been at you for almost a year about the X, so we still got a ways to go...
But seriously though: I've NEVER paid that much for any controller on any console, so it's going to be a VERY tough sell for you. I'd probably sooner trade in my One S for an X, because that has more worth for me than a controller...

And yes, I actually have Game Pass. Which weirdly ended up in giving me both the original version of Earthlock and the improved one, which is now also available on the Switch.

The older version was free with Games with Gold, and the improved version was available with Game Pass. Sadly enough, I can't share my save game between the two versions, and I'm not quite sure if I'm willing to put in that many hours AGAIN to grind and upgrade my characters to where they are now, let alone to how far I've gotten in the game...

As for Game Pass itself: I'm only on a trial subscription (came with the console bundle, as well as Forza Horizon 3 + Hot Wheels expansion and COD WW2), and I've found, as was already known, that I simply don't have enough time left to game to warrant me renewing that subscription on top of Xbox Live, so I'll just let it expire.

As for your button dilemma: I have this maths thing memorized in my head. I was ultimately not that good at maths itself, but some stuff does remain firmly rooted in the old grey cells...

So, Y is vertical and X is horizontal. And as such for me, the Y button being on top and the X being on the side next to it, makes perfect sense. And on the old Genesis joypad, A was also the button closest to the thumb, and X was also more or less in the top. And just take a look at how the buttons are placed & named on the Dreamcast controller.

That is more than likely also where the Xbox button layout came from: Sega. Considering the close collaboration between Sega and Microsoft to create the Dreamcast and all the IP that ultimately crossed over from the Dreamcast onto the OG Xbox, it was probably the logical thing for them to do: just copy from the controller of the console that you helped Sega to build...

P.S.

The One X on a gaming monitor? And here I was thinking you wanted to play games on the couch in front of the TV...

Remove that PS4 or simply buy an HDMI hub, so you can connect them all. Simple hubs are super cheap, even at Amazon:

'The console wars are like boobs: Sony and Microsoft fight over which ones look the nicest and Nintendo's are the most fun to play with.'

NEStalgia

@ThanosReXXX I had to buy in now so I could start building my games library. Already played Syndicate but getting it on X for free is worthwhile, and was only 2 weeks away from MGS5. I was super annoyed I missed that one on PS4's freebies months ago, and lo, I can get the better version anyway for free now. That's $20 right there. And yeah I do intend to scoop up a code during the good sale seasons for the following year! I figure getting in now gets me my games library and I can save more in subsequent years (I plan to do that with Sony too.)

Nono, that would be the in-home retaliation on my end And Celene Dion for Deadpool? I need to lie down....

UI: Yeah, it's not awful, I expected worse. Switch really has a great UI. So did WiU. Vita does too. But both X1 and PS4 just have bloated unintuitive UIs overall. I can't really put either on much of a pedestal over the other. Achievement unlocked: "You have earned a trophy!"

Yeah, I'd agree a console upgrade has more value than a controller upgrade. I really started controller envy because of how much I loathe the DualShock. Then when I found the Razer, it was like "yeah...this is nice....this is REALLY nice...." It's like eating Mahi Mahi after knowing only Chicken of the Sea. How do you go back to the tin? But I hate the wire. Elite was the cure to that. But Elite seems to have massive reliability issues (that may be resolved with an E3 announcement of 2.0?) Also, Elite has nice sticks, but the buttons are the same mushy rubber buttons as the $49 stock control. Once you get used to microswitches.....it's a different world. And the metal shaft sticks GLIDE where traditional ones get a little raspy as they wear on the housing and build up that fine plastic powder. Wire/wireless versus switches/non-switches. Don't get me wrong, the stock control is very VERY nice for a stock control. Best ever. No question. I like it. Maybe I should skip the elite and just use stock for wireless and razer for near-perfect. I hate to wear that nifty Project Scorpio controller out though. It's simple, but special all the same.

Good info on GP. Yeah, the big catch for it is, since they can remove games at any time, can you really finish one by the time they remove it? I play a lot of games, but that part is a little worrying.

Sega has 3 buttons. Sega needs only 3 buttons. I never actually owned a Saturn or DC. Of course neither did anybody else which was their problem. But yeah, that's probably where it came from. And Sega was of course doing what Nintendon't..... sigh the 16-bit console war. The 16 bit console war never changes....

Well it IS on the couch. I made my own custom swivel assembly to keep the monitor able to pull out in front of me on the couch. I'm too blind to see game detail on a big screen. An X1X and SNES would have similar graphics to me at that distance without glasses, and I can't stand gaming with glasses, so the monitor it is! That's also my 4k issue: even if I wanted it they simply don't MAKE any HDR 4K monitors at that size/weight class required. They're still squarely 1080p-non-HDR (there was one but with badly designed ports that would stick straight out the back....that won't do, so I'm waiting on NEC which may take years.) (plus my complex signal chain of switches and hubs and cables would need an overhaul....and for the TV, the AVR.....and then the custom remote programming I spent months on to make all that work...shudder). 1080p non-HDR gaming for a long long time, 1080p projection for a long long time. Even if I spent the money I wouldn't have the time or energy to make a whole new setup work, I'd just have a fancy 4k display running at 1080p.

Oh it's on a hub. you should see my signal chain. It's worse than the worst you can picture. The HDMI hub is already full with things. I now have an A/B switch loop for the PS4/X1. But the Switch is on the other side of the room with the AVR, so I have a switch to toggle the Switch and BD player, plus one to bypass the AVR when its not on (to bring the Switch to the monitor), but it's a LONG HDMI run around the room, so it goes into a repeater, that then connects to ANOTHER repeater, one out feeding the projector, the other out which then goes to an EDID rectifier (very expensive and doesn't support 4k) to set the EDID signature for 1080p since somehow the Switch doesn't handshake cleanly with the monitor. All that goes into the multiport switch which then switches the PS4/X1, WiiU, and a few other devices.

HDCP handshakes can take a WHILE....

And you want me to upgrade all that to 4k!

NEStalgia

ThanosReXXX

@NEStalgia No man, wouldn't want you to feel obligated...

Besides: I'm still on 1080p myself, so why would I persuade anyone else to go higher? My next screen obviously IS going to be 4K/UHD, because by then they'll be affordable enough, and you'd also have to wonder if it would even be possible to still get a good 1080p screen in a couple of year's time.

As for Deadpool 2 and the singing siren: seems like I confused you with someone else (possibly @rjejr), because I though you were pretty much up to date with all things Marvel.

Anyway, here, have some fun with it. Maybe annoy some friends or neighbors...

I'm kinda wondering about you mentioning a wire on the controller, unless you're talking about PS4, because I haven't had wires on controllers since the GameCube, so I haven't got any on my Xbox consoles either... (or is it the Razor one that has a cable? That sucks, if so)

Anyway: I've never worn out any controller, no drifts, no rasp, whatever. I am always very careful with my consoles. I never understood those broken N64 controllers either. Mine only broke if I smashed them into a wall because I was such a sore loser back then... (still kinda am, but I lost a bit of my aggression in my old age)

And even if you DO wear them out: a new stock controller is STILL cheaper than an Elite, so you could buy almost three stock controllers for one of those...

Oh, and Sega had 6 buttons on their later controller. But even on the 3 button controller, A was where I said it was. And the Xbox controller has the EXACT same button scheme as the Dreamcast, except for some reason, they switched colors: on Dreamcast it is A - red, B - Blue, Y - green, X - yellow, but the placement is the same.

Microsoft probably figured that green is go, and the A button is the action button, most of the time, so they made it the green button...

As for cable mess: you wouldn't want to see a picture of what lies hidden behind my TV cabinet either. Three generations worth of console connections...
(and of course TV, media player, set top box, modem, router)

Seems like we also share a bit of impaired vision... I also have glasses, but I only wear them indoors and late at night. Much too vain to wear them during the day, so for that, we've got contact lenses, and that enables me to comfortably sit 10 feet away from my 42" Plasma screen...

Don't need no switch to toggle HDMI inputs: mine does that automatically. Quite the feat, for such a cheap hub, no?

Also, forgot to mention previously: the internal HDD will fill up pretty quickly, especially if, besides all the free games, you're inclined to check out how much better Xbox 360 games look on the X (pixel count goes up by a factor 4, as well as a frame rate improvement). Ah, what am I talking about? You'll get more than enough Xbox 360 games, seeing as these are also a part of Games with Gold.

Anyway, I digress... About that hard drive: from videos I've seen, it really isn't that hard to replace it, especially if you're familiar with PC modding/building. But it would probably be best to do that right away, because I have no idea how easy/difficult it is to put all the stuff from the internal drive to a new one. Downloads is just a matter of re-downloading, but the OS and all that, maybe not so much...

Anyway, I'll be watching my invite list like a hawk, so see you around, ex-infidel...

'The console wars are like boobs: Sony and Microsoft fight over which ones look the nicest and Nintendo's are the most fun to play with.'

NEStalgia

@ThanosReXXX Well at this point TVs are probably all either 2k or 4k just by stock. Monitors under 24" though...that's another story (somehow 23-24" is a massive jump in weight class. The mount won't take it!)

Nah, I'm not one to follow Marvel very much. Comic books were never much my thing. Must be rjejr.....wow, summoning him to an XBox thread is like you being summoned to the PS thread the other day!

Cabled controllers: Yeah the Razer is wired. Both MS and Sony don't allow wireless controllers from third parties. A few iffy third parties do RF based wireless with a USB dongle, but they're just that: iffy. That's the beauty of the Elite, a premium controller with wireless. Other than that all third party controllers are wired, which is annoying, HOWEVER it's usually not problematic. The target market for them is competitive gamers, which would never (ever) use wirless. Both due to the tiny latency introduced when equalization of all technical aspects is imperative for competition, and because generally competitive events don't permit wireless controllers. The tournament halls would be a mess with all that RF interference, and inputs would be missed, hardware would be blamed for losses, RF sabotage would be an issue....so wireless is a no-go for that environment to begin with. That's why the Elite, the DS4v2, and even the lowly Switch Pro controllers support a native wired USB connection as well (and why Switch pro includes that long USB cable, as does Elite....Splatoon tourneys), and fight sticks only come in wired varieties. For those of us not going all eSports, a third party premium wireless option would have been nice.

No drift? No rasp? Even my Switch pro for Splatoon has the rasp. White powder all over the stick bases from grinding down the plastics. I'm not intentionally abusive to my controllers, but I involuntarily apply force to things when distracted/focused/stressed, which is kind of what a game is all about...so yeah, that stick is grinding the rim when I'm fleeing a carbon roller coming right at me in splatoon, or coming into the home stretch with the rainmaker!

But yeah, that's the thing with the (current) elite. They cost 3x a regular controler....and aren't actually more durable at all. Nicer feel, smoother control, more buttons. But no more durable. At least the Razers are kind of reinforced for abuse. But I still want that wireless one

Cables: It's come to the point that when I remove any device I can't untangle the cables or get to the plugs, so I add a power strip and leave all the old cables there.....I think some of those cables are from the 90's still nested in there. My living room is a borg cube.

Haha, yeah, contacts are a no-go for me.....I found them impossible to comprehend even in elementary school and it's even worse now. I just can't ever go with that....so it's no glasses or glasses. Usually no glasses. I'll find the pavement with my nose. But I have better than perfect vision up close for now.....so I can really tell if I'm seeing the highest quality pixels or not

Auto switching HDMI: Well that works if you only have one powered on device, but not if there's multiple. And not if it's a matrix switch for switching multiple inputs to multiple outputs

Yeah, the HDD space constraints I'm used to with PS4, but moreso with the bigger games of the X. There's always external, but for now (and half the reason I got the X to begin with) is I have fiber, so I can just use the cloud as my HDD and keep re-downloading things It takes like 15-25 minutes for a game to be "ready to play" MS wanted the cloud. They got the cloud. I'll be hammering their servers. A year ago downloading a 10GB patch was impossible for me. Today, sure, fine, a TB a month...whatever...

I have a pretty big stack of 360 discs already....so...yeah (Heck I never OPENED Fable II....the collectors edition no less!)

As for reinstalling, yeah, the PS4 can self format a new HDD, but I've heard you have to format the new HDD on a PC first and image it from one of the images floating on the net. It's definitely not meant for easy replacement. Which is idiotic for a non-SSD solution.

I'll send that invite out later on!

NEStalgia

ThanosReXXX

@NEStalgia "wow, summoning him to an XBox thread is like you being summoned to the PS thread the other day!"

Well, over the years, he has directed me to Push Square more than once, so he had it coming...

As for all that controller abuse: seeing as it's analog, the stick never actually needs to touch the outer corners of its housing. I've also tried hammering that into the brain of one of my friends, who likes racing sims, by the way...

When he plays them when he's here, I can hear the stick clicking left and right, because he is pushing it all the way to the ends, while when I'm playing, I never touch any of the housing, and if I do, it's by accident. Because of you mentioning it, I've now checked my controllers for plastic powder/rasp, but there's none. A bit of wear/lines on my oldest Xbox 360 controller, but other than that, nothing to really worry about.

You could always try a tiny bit of silicon spray to keep the area smooth, and in the worst case scenario there's always replacement sticks, if you haven't got a problem with opening them up. I've even seen metal stick replacement, aluminum if I remember correctly, coming in a wide range of colors as well.

As for the cloud: I thought that was only for game saves, not for storing entire games, so one of us hasn't been paying attention...

'The console wars are like boobs: Sony and Microsoft fight over which ones look the nicest and Nintendo's are the most fun to play with.'

NEStalgia

@ThanosReXXX Interesting. I've never heard of anyone NOT pushing it to the end. They click and slap and grind for me! And most people you hand a controller to do the same. That's why the premium controllers use stainless steel stems and nylon collars! That explains why you and maybe some others don't have issues with that! (And then there's fight sticks that are meant to be slapped around as well!)

NEStalgia

ThanosReXXX

@NEStalgia That's probably due to entire generations of people being used to digital joysticks/micro switches, such as on the single button joysticks for the Amiga and Atari home computers. And you pass on to others what you yourself know or have learned, including bad habits...

I honestly don't know anymore who learned me that this is completely unnecessary with analog joysticks, but as you might be able to understand, it has done me a world of good and all my joypads are still in pretty darn good condition, so maybe you should try to teach yourself to do the same as well...

Just try it out in a simple, relaxing game so you can get used to it, and if there's an option to do so, such as in fps and racing games, adjust the sensitivity of the sticks. As for fight sticks: if you mean those Capcom arcade sticks and what not, with the big buttons and all that; those are mostly digital/micro switched, so those are supposed to be pushed all the way. That is also why the steering is so similar to the D pad on a controller.

For me, listening to people forcing my controllers to make a clicking sound is like nails on a chalkboard: it annoys me to no end and I know it isn't necessary, so it's basically abusing the controller.

@ThanosReXXX Didn't get a chance to add your account, I was troubleshooting both MS store and Amazon store purchase issues all night. It was weird, I bought two things on MS store (Cuphead, AC:Origins)...first one went through, second one coulnd't be billed. Then I couldn't buy anything. Bought two things on Amazon X1 digital sales event (AC: Rogue Remastered, RoTR). First one worked, second one never sent the code, and then amazon emailed saying someone breached my account and they're wiping pending orders and locking me out for 5 hours. (I don't think someone breached the account, I think both my MS and Amazon digital purchases somehow triggered SOME warning flags. Buying too quickly? Why can't I add digital to my cart and check out at once?!) it locked me right while I was legitimately in the account buying things. Then after that they cancelled a pending item of which there was only one so I had to get that reordered. Meanwhile with MS, I removed and readded payment. Didn't work. I spent forever with them troubleshooting...adding removing, etc....they had a known problem with the store yesterday (Best network, Pfft!) and I think that affected me. Re-adding payment didn't work yesterday. Doing it today I can finally use it now (but not "buy as gift" codes?) Never had so much problem with payments outside Sony's store. Then after I changed my amazon password and got unlocked I went to order the game again. It stayed in "pending verification" for hours. Then the order vanished without a trace. It let me to it today....so thank goodness for that. I THINK I'm back on track. But just placing test orders to test billing I've spent like $100 just to get my accounts working. I'm grumpy today. You may confuse me for rjejr again.

Anyway, got the Razr. I really do love it. Like Elite you can put a domed or taller stick on. Unlike elite you can only chose ONE of each. It has swappable D-pads too. it's lightweight, the sticks are a thing of beauty, the grips are as well, and the beautiful clicky buttons are wonderful. BUT that Elite feels so good, and the sticks are so smooth (even if the buttons suck.) I'm still going to miss it when I return it. Darned drifting stick! Still I can't see getting a second one when they have such big known problems when E3 is just a few weeks away and HOPEFULLY they announce a new version of it (makes sense, the old one doesn't have BT which was a big feature of the S refresh of stock.) My stock controller....I bought a used Play & Charge kit. The cable works and lights up charging the battery on the Elite...but not on the stock. The stock uses the cable as a wired controller, so the cable works. And it runs on battery power and reports battery level. But it won't charge. Must be something with the USB port. Oh well, back to AA NIMH. (Hey it was a refurb kit I suppose it's to be expected though it looks mint new.)

As for sticks. I think you're missing your calling, you were to be a surgeon. That much tiny hand control....that's not normal. You could be making millions! The natural inclination to pushing something with a hard stop that offers resistance is to push it to the stop. Same with quickly changing directions, especially while concentrating on something else. And most games with analog directions have different speeds at different positions, so max speed is either at full press, or so close to full press you'd not be able to hold it there (and it would be uncomfortable to avoid.) If you manage to actually not hit the sides, regularly, that's miraculous muscle control! If not surgeon, first chair concert violinist perhaps? Or violist if you're a masochist?

Stick sensitivity adjustments, go figure, are a key part of those premium controllers though The Razer has an Agile and Focus (high precision, high speed) option you can bind to the optional buttons to switch on the fly. BUT....it's just assumed most people are clicking the sticks hard. Premium controllers have taller stick options (and a lot of people use Kontrol Freeks - stick extenders) on stock controllers. That applies more force and an even bigger lever to avoid pushing all the way. Thats why premium ones have stainless-on-nylon collars. Not abuse, normal wear and tear. You're just "special" if you can avoid that

A furious splatoon match that stick will slam and grind until that stupid cat cheats and tells me I had less ink when I know I didn't....

OTOH if you hate the clicking sound you should hear the Razer/Elite dance of steel. Those stainless stems on reinforced housing make some pretty loud clacks. You must love Switch. even if you slam the sticks, nobody will ever hear it!.

For me, I may hit it harder than most people because I have a grip of death on any object I'm holding while otherwise focused on something or stressed. Music teachers hated me ages ago

@ThanosReXXX Water Rabbit? C'mon you've never heard of Chicken of the Sea? Even a flying Dutchman can't not have heard of it )

@NEStalgia That's an ACTUAL thing, or is it a mock label? Either way, it's not known in the EU, or at least not in my neck of the woods, so small wonder I've never heard of it.

As for Water Rabbit, that's what the Belgians called water rat until the late 60's - early 70's to fool people into eating rat meat. Probably also originally had something to do with meat being scarce after the second world war, and the following crisis years.

As for controller "control": of course I don't always stay clear of the sides, as you said, during frantic gameplay it certainly happens, but for example in racing games (especially sims), pushing sticks all the way left or right will sooner land you in a wall or border than actually keep you on the track that you're supposed to race on, so minute control to ace those corners and beat those track records is where it's at.

And the same goes for first person shooters: wild and/or over-exaggerated movements don't go well with precision aiming. Try sniping like that: ain't gonna work...

And I wouldn't call myself a surgeon, but I'm no stranger to precise hand movements: I used to be totally into Warhammer 40K and D&D figurines, you know, those tiny pewter ones, that you could paint, and I painted them in the most minute detail, tiny pupils and all, so that might be why I already had the muscle memory...

Don't have a Switch yet: I buy one console a year, and I was a bit behind the times, so last year it was the Wii U, this year it was the Xbox One S. Next year will be the Switch, probably.

@ThanosReXXX "Chicken of the Sea" is supposedly what sailors would sometimes describe tuna as, which was popularized by the canning company of the same name. It's been a common enough brand in America that, honestly, I always hear people describe tuna that way. I certainly don't think twice about it, and I don't even eat tuna...then again, I don't eat canned chicken, either...

@CanisWolfred Well, in case you didn't know yet: even though I am American (California original), we moved to Europe when I was 9, and nowadays, I live in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, so I'm not quite up to date with the average American consumables, whether they are common or not...

And now you are. Your welcome.
