@Dezzy yeah 1440 always seemed odd to tout. I've always considered it a 1080 console. Considering 1440 is only for monitors, and few console players play on monitors, it never made sense advertising that so much. 1080p tv? S is fine. 4k tv? You probably want x. 1440 monitor? You probably are looking for 120fps and want x also. Dont care about gfx? S is fine regardless and you probably have a 1080p display anyway.

And yeah I never believed in the claims about file size reduction, though Activision probably isn't the best reference material for optimization. I think that was mostly covering for the insufficient storage on these boxes. That's ok, you can buy the addon drives. Just add as soon as somebody makes one that works with ps5.....

Burger King is probably my favorite burger joint and the preferred one I'd go to when we close off the family grill for the Winter season.

Yeah, eat that, you Taco Belles! Ba-zing!

(Hey if Xbox is going to give out fridges, we need a proper fanboy food fight console proxy war!)

So, Switch is French Toast, PS5 is Burger King and Xbox Series X is Häagen Dazs. 😆

@Anti-Matter I can't imagine there those comparisons came from... But no . Ps is burger king and xb is taco bell because that's the fast food restaurant each partnered with for advertising and giving away consoles as a contest

@Dezzy If you allow me to copy my post from another thread:

The thing is, games can be a lot smaller. But if the developer doesn't care about optimising the file size, they won't get smaller. Games these days contain a lot of unused textures, sound files, models, etc. It takes work to remove all of it and make sure it doesn't cause bugs elsewhere, but that's what a good dev would do.

Remember, Sekiro is only 12GB on PS4. Ghost of Tsushima is ''only'' 35GB.

Clearly, Activision doesn't give a piss about file size. COD is getting bigger and bigger every year, and frankly it's getting ridiculous. But yeah, the option to reduce file sizes doesn't guarantee it. If they use old packaging software, and/or if the files still contain duplicate elements, it won't make a difference of course.

@Octane If it's bigger it must be better!

Cold War isn't the setting. It's the actual technological design of the game. They must've bought the engine cheap from the Russians.

Do y'think Activision just leave all the assets from previous CoD games in the next one, and that's why the file size just keeps getting bigger? They're not rebuilding a house, they're just building over the old one.

@DarthNocturnal

Gears 5 drops to 55GB on Series S? Ok well that would be quite impressive!

@Octane

I suspect some developers aren't organized in a way that makes it easy to share resources. A lot of big budget games that have different levels (like COD) will probably just have different teams of people working on different levels, and it would cause too much trouble for them to constantly be making they share the same concrete texture between different levels.

Like 60fps, I think the shrinking of file size with Series X/S will very much be a 1st party thing. 3rd parties will continue to aim for 30fps (prioritizing resolution over framerate) and increased file size.

@Grumblevolcano

I don't think 60fps will be something either of them go for permanently. The most we can hope for is that more games will have a graphics mode vs a performance mode. But once they come up with some clever ways of using raytracing, they're gonna prioritize that over the framerate. That's what they've always done with new hardware.

I have a feeling 60fps is going to become the standard this gen anyway. A lot of the games showcased for both systems are either 60fps minimum or offering different preset preferences like a 4K/30fps resolution mode and a dynamic 4K or 1440p/60fps performance mode, which in my opinion should be offered by as many developers both first and third party as possible. Hell DMC5SE is even offering up 120fps apparently and that's in addition to stuff like Ray Tracing and Legendary Dark Knight difficulty.

Still a little disappointed that The Medium will apparently be locked to 30fps on Series X.

Long question with a long backstory for any of the Xbox gurus here who can be bothered reading...

I've been out of the Xbox loop for a while now (have a One S that I've commandeered, my brother loaned it to me some time ago and hasn't asked for it back), but was way into the original Xbox owning one with a stack of games - including Halo 1 and 2, which I lived and breathed back then.

I'm pretty disappointed Halo: Infinite isn't going to be a launch title for the Series X and that the game has been delayed to an unconfirmed date for next year, as I think I would have bought the console and the game straight up had it been available in a few days time as I'm keen to get back into Xbox gaming and no better way than with Halo, a series I once loved to death.

Anyway I have a copy of The Masterchief Collection so that could fill the void until Infinite is released, as aside from Halo 1 and 2, I never played any of the other games in the series as by the time Halo 3 rolled around, I'd gone off gaming.

But I'm keen to catch up on all the titles I missed as much as possible before Infinite does get released, which leads to the question(s)...

I'd been looking at buying Halo 5 and couldn't help noticing that it's an extremely cheap price for a game only five years old... why? Is it because it's a terrible game? Or is it worth picking up and playing? I'm not concerned about wasting money on it because as I said it's not expensive, but more wasting the time on physically purchasing it, then playing it only to potentially find out it sucks... any help much appreciated!

@Tendo64 There's not much point calling yourself a Halo fan and not at least trying the game for yourself. A couple of people could comment here "Don't bother, it's trash" as often happens on the webz and put you off a game in a series you're into.

But like any series, if you're not sure about a game, I'd suggest starting with the earlier ones you've missed, just so you've got the complete picture when it comes to playing 5.

You guys had me at blood and semen.

What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?

I'm currently working my way through the series, but haven't got to Halo 5 yet. From what I've discerned from just reading a lot of opinions on it, Halo 5 is just the weakest of the main games in the series, but is still good enough to be worth playing.
It's a 7 or 8/10 while the other games are a 9/10, type situation. So definitely still worth it for the very low price.

Ray tracing video on the Series S -

Makes me feel much more optimistic about getting my Series S in two days time. Very impressive
Also Ori and the Will of The Wisps can now be played at 4k 60FPS on the Series S

Looks awesome. I hope they get it running in Cyberpunk for the SeriesS/X too. And GTA5. And Witcher 3 (although not as many shiny surfaces for reflections)
