@Octane Typos. Grammatical errors. Inaccurate translations. It's widely considered one of the sloppiest modern localizations of a Japanese game, and a bunch of angry people tried to get Falcom to take notice. Apparently they did, as NISA doesn't normally re-do its sloppy translation jobs.

So what I'm wondering is... will they just issue an ENORMOUS patch for the physical version?

Text doesn't take up much memory. You can get an ebook of War and Peace in about 5Mb

They're re-recording dialogue, too.

Lol, that's quite the mess then. Did they get voice actors to speak grammatically incorrect statements then?
Surely they'd have corrected them.

@Ralizah I see. It's weird, I don't think I've ever played a bad localisation. I'm not a big fan of the Treehouse memes in some games, but I've never played a(n) (official) game with grammatical errors.

@Dezzy I'd guess that has more to do with the poorly translated dialogue, but I have no idea how much spoken dialogue is actually in the game.

It's nice to see NISA being held to account for once. Too bad poor Esty Dee can't be saved.

@Octane

You not recall a once-known title called Final Fantasy 7?

This are sickening to me.

@Dezzy I never owned a PlayStation, and I guess none of my friends were into RPGs. I've never played a Final Fantasy game actually!

@Dezzy That arceusdamn Guard Scorpion mid-battle (mis)translation was nearly the end of me. I actually very nearly sent the game back to Electronic Boutique (remember them?) beacause I just simply couldn’t work out how to defeat the flipping boss!

In one way, the rather inadequate English translation adds to the charm of the game, but on the other hand, it is somewhat disrespectful of the original Japanese dialogue. J R R Tolkien wasn’t a fan of the way his stories were translated in a way that suited a translators preference:

In principle I object as strongly as is possible to the 'translation' of the nomenclature at all (even by a competent person). I wonder why a translator should think himself called on or entitled to do any such thing. That this is an 'imaginary' world does not give him any right to remodel it according to his fancy, even if he could in a few months create a new coherent structure which it took me years to work out. [...] May I say at once that I will not tolerate any similar tinkering with the personal nomenclature. Nor with the name/word Hobbit.

There’s a fan translation called ‘The Reunion’ in which you can replace the original games text in the PC version of Final Fantasy VII. Took just one guy eleven years to do, and has been met with mostly an abundance of positivity.

There’s even a Eurogamer article about it, as well as a chat with the translator himself: - Why would someone retranslate all of Final Fantasy VII? Beaca...

Articles like these make me love Final Fantasy VII even more so.

Twenty years on, it continues to be my favourite game of all time.

p.s. I sincerely hope we get to see another glimpse, however brief, of the Final Fantasy VII Remake at the PlayStation Experience in December.

Lol this comment on a FFXV video made me laugh:

"So the DLC episodes are basically:
Gladio of War
Metal Gear Prompto
FFXV:Arkham Ignis"

Also, no-one who's played FFXV here has commented on the whole Ignis putting the ring on thing. You do need to have seen Kingsglaive to figure out what it means though.
That's just as good a twist as Ardyn's true name reveal imo.

It's weird how Sonic Lost World's DLC ideas inspired a main Final Fantasy game, I will say. :V

Um... little question about PS4 Remote play.
I heard IPad or Iphone or Any Android gadget can be used as a Secondary screen like PS Vita did. Is that true ? If yes, what Apps that required for Remote play ?

@Anti-Matter You got an iPad, yes?

This is what I used to tinker about with a little while ago:

It works surprisingly well, and the bigger the screen your iPhone has, the better.

Just curious - that article says it took 5 years, and that there was a team involved, so why you say 'one guy, 11 years'?

You guys had me at blood and semen.

What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?

I have Android Smartphone Vivo Y31.
Can my smartphone be a Secondary screen ?

@gcunit Whoops!

I was reading a long forum post on a Final Fantasy fan translation forum called ‘Qhimm’, whereby the total process from the beginning (“I want to fix this translation”) to feeling satisfied with his work, after he got together with a fluent English/Japanese speaker six years into the overall eleven years project, hence the Eurogamer article stating five years.

I guess those five years was when he and his friend really knuckled down and got on with the translation side of things, whilst he tinkered about six years prior more or less on his own.

Apologies! Got myself confused between the two separate things I was reading up on with regards to particular subject.

@Anti-Matter I have no idea if your model is compatible, seeing as I don’t have an Android device to try out for myself however, if you are able to download the ‘R-Play’ app on the Google Store, then you should be able to use your phone as a secondary screen, yes.

I only know that it works my iPad and iPhone perfectly fine.

In other news, the ‘Horizon Zero Dawn - The Frozen Wilds’ expansion is out today, hooray! Are you going to be playing this @Octane ?

@Peek-a-boo Yeah, I am. I still need to do some groceries, but the rest of the afternoon will be reserved for Frozen Wilds!

I went back in yesterday and got the platinum trophy (apparently you need to destroy all the training dummies in the starting area, so I did that). I'm all set for the expansion!

I can't imagine this being particularly good. I gave up on using the Vita for remote play quite early on.
The screen size is just a major problem. A lot of games are made for a bigger screen. Things like text size don't scale very well.
