I enjoyed what I've played of Frozen Wilds so far. Seems like they're changing things up, and there's a bunch of new stuff in the game. Including a new skill tree! Finally something to spend my remaining skill points on. I really liked the first Tallneck I encountered too. Snow physics are great so far, it's one of the first things I noticed. You leave realistic impressions as you walk through the snow, and there's a lot of ice and snow in this map.
Here's another neat little detail, snow floats on water, or forms little ice crystals. Fire arrows can melt them as well, you can even see when I pulled out my bow and put it back. I don't think this snow effect was in the main game.
Some changes to the Sony Rewards programs mean those who earn trophies in PlayStation games can earn points that are good toward discounts on the PlayStation Store.
Under the terms, earning 100 silver trophies is worth 100 points, 25 gold trophies net 250 points and 10 platinum trophies — which are awarded for earning every trophy a game offers — gets 1,000 points. (This offer is good for U.S. gamers only).
Now THAT'S the way to incentivize earning trophies!
Currently Playing: The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy (PC)
This is basically like MyNintendo. Only not limited to Mobile only games.
See, you do achievements/trophies/missions, get points for it. Those points added up can be spent on things.
Here is the differences:
My Nintendo - Mobile titles only so far, point requirements are fairly low, rotating selection of what to spend on.
Sony Rewards - Titles from now onwards, point requirements are actually pretty steep (Though now those easy trophy games will likely show up more), spend on whatever you want...when you finally earn something.
Neither of these are particularly good. Sure MyNintendo rewards are limited but for more value than $1 off. Secondly, its not retroactive. Whoops. That's 2000 trophies down the can. Third, we already know there is no moderation on what games get what trophies, so expect a lot of 5 Star Top 1000 etc etc now people have something to gain.
Lastly, and lets be honest here, do we need good games being pushed to side because they don't have Platinum trophies even more than they already are? There are a vocal group who buy solely for trophies, do we want to add people to that group?
So no, neither reward scheme is particularly good. One is limiting but easy to earn points, one is far too hard to earn points for next to nothing, and incentivises something already affecting the storefront.
Oh, and its US only. Because of course it is.
Now Playing: Mario & Luigi Brothership, Sonic x Shadow Generations
Now Streaming: The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
@Ralizah Nice! I have a feeling that Nintendo might roll out something like this for Switch soon - looks like Sony beat 'em to it! My Nintendo offers discounts etc in exchange for 'coins' - and one way you can earn those coins is to complete 'Missions' (trophies?) in first-party mobile games like Mario Run - so it wouldn't surprise me if we see this kind of thing expanded to include (select) Switch games before too long
..Sony's system actually looks like it goes even further and incentivises earning trophies in any game - first or third-party - which is pretty awesome! ..shame that it's just available in the U.S. for now - hopefully it'll get a more global roll-out if it proves to be a success!
EDIT: Ah, I see that @BLP_Software kinda beat me to the punch with the My Nintendo comparison there!

Lol, damn there goes my "why do you care so much about trophies you weirdos" attitude.
@DiscoGentleman Oh man, does the proper translation actually change how we see the characters? I enjoy FF7 as is, but if I can get a version that adds better character depth I'd be all over that!
@Octane Pleased to see that you’re enjoying The Frozen Wilds!
I believe I am nearing the end of Wolfenstein II, which is my favourite non-exclusive game of this year, then I shall crack on with the expansion properly and start hunting down robosaurs for the remainder of this month.
I like those screenshots you took BTW. It is still a ridiculously pretty game.
@DiscoGentleman Glad you took an interest in the FFVII translation project. I don’t understand a word of Japanese so, you definitely know more than me with regards to this subject! I too am on team ‘Aerith’, to the point that I change her name when given the opportunity to do so.
I would love to be able to replay the game again sometime down the line with the ‘Reunion’ translation. I only have a Mac, so I am not overly sure if I can buy FFVII on the App Store and modify the dialogue/language contents...
@Ralizah Typical! It is for US citizens only. Thanks for the heads up though.
@Peek-a-boo I think I like it more than the main game. It's a bit weird returning to a pre-final chapter Horizon world, but the game barely mentions the events in the main game, so it's easy to forget about Hades and the Eclipse. Anyway, this feels a lot like The Witcher's Hearts and Stone expansion; a smaller, but sizable chunk of new map, new enemies, new characters, a bunch of new items, gear and weapons. The world's great too, I love the chilly and cold atmosphere, the almost constant snowfall, frozen lakes, northern lights. In a way, it feels like its own little game.
I only made those shots to show off some the new snow effects! I prefer these to be honest:
Might get the Horizon complete edition at christmas. Although might get a Switch instead. Haven't decided. Depends if I can find a good deal on a Switch I think.
How big is that DLC? We talking Blood and Wine type size?
@Dezzy Something in-between Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine I think. Hard to say, but it's pretty meaty. There's plenty of new content, and the combat is great, so more of it is always a good thing. It's pretty difficult though.
Did Hearts of Stone actually add more map? I've only ever played the GOTY edition where it was included onto the main map.
I wondered if extra parts had been added
@Dezzy The entire north-east section of Velen, the part where HoS took place, with the exception of Oxenfurt. Anything beyond that is from HoS.
I checked HZD's map and Frozen Wilds is about a fourth of the size of the main map, but it feels a bit bigger than that.
Blood and Wine was absolutely enormous, and added another 50-80 hours of content easily. I don't think Frozen Wilds will last that long, but I can see 20-25 hours worth of content depending on your play style.
@Ralizah I believe that the complete edition, which is due in December, will be priced at $50 instead of $60. And with the snowy themed DLC, it's the perfect holiday game
