@Dezzy I guess I misunderstood your post then, didn't really understand it to be honest!

Anyway, in other news, according to some shady backdoor business deal-type site (express.co.uk), From Software has more than one game planned for 2017. The source is Japanese and contains 149 interviews with developers from all over Japan, so if anyone wants to sift through that to find the original quote, be my guest. Anyway, assuming this is true; Bloodborne 2? A new Armored Core? Don't know if they consider a complete edition of Dark Souls III as a ''new'' game, or maybe even a complete trilogy on disc? That was rumoured to be coming to the Switch.

@CanisWolfred Thanks for your reply! Yes, the game was released in all of Europe in 2014 afaik.
I think Sony screwing up might be a realistic explanation, though it makes it even more frustrating in a way.
You see, I also tried buying it from the mobile PS Store, only to find out they have overhauled it and now my card won't work.
I only wanted to play Rogue Legacy, Ididn't think I was asking that much...
However thanks again for your help.

Last guardian is a pretty fun game. Sometimes it can be frustrating trying to get Trico to climb up on a specific wall, but that's part of the experience so I don't mind all that much. It's relaxing compared to ff15, which I still haven't done much with in terms of side quests

@Octane

I was just reacting to the fact that you gave a real-world rational explanation for your in-game choices, and pointing out that I don't do that in games at all. If anything, I deliberately choose the worst option just to see what will happen as a way of turning video games into a kind of vicarious mischief simulator.

You need to revise this policy.

It's not like I make a habit of that, I was only what I had noticed after the fact that made me more aggitated than usual. And could I please ask that you don't make it worse with jabs like that? I know myself enough to say that I'm getting too aggrivated, but I also know how easy it is for me to go on a tirade if I get to a certain point. I don't need the extra push...

Jabbing you would've been pointing out that you've been sarcastic yourself on another thread here in the last 24 hours.

Blimey. What's happened here in the last 24 hours?!

Anyways, Sony announced their first OLED television at the CES trade show earlier in the day (or in the night, depending on where you woke up today) amongst other new technological products that is coming out of their stable.

Untitled

Along with their new products, they also revealed that almost nine million copies of Uncharted 4: A Thief's End has been sold to date since it was released seven months ago, and 53 and ½ million consoles have been sold through (to customers) up until the last day of 2016.

6.2 million of those were sold around the world during the festive season! To put it in perspective, the PlayStation 4 sold nearly half the Wii U lifetime sales in just six weeks. Boggles the mind, that does.

Things could be very different this year with the release of the Nintendo Switch in March as well as 'Scorpio' - or whatever it shall eventually be called - later in the year... or things will mostly stay the same.

It's going to be an interesting year ahead, that's for sure!

p.s. Played Ratchet & Clank with my cousins son on his 7th Birthday yesterday afternoon, and he was so happy and excitable when he was playing the game. My cousin however just couldn't stop saying how good it looks, and just how far games has come since he owned a GameCube 14 or 15 years ago.

@Peek-a-boo Was looking forward to this post, read something about the PS4 sales, so I knew you were going to post about it

Anyway, 9 million for Uncharted! That's more than any of the previous entries have sold, and that in just 8 months! Impressive, even for a PS4 game. I recall some pretty extensive (and probably expensive) marketing earlier this year, that definitely paid off then. I guess that releasing the trilogy was a good idea too.

It also took me a while to figure out how your 7-year old cousin could've owned a GameCube 15 years ago...

Sony has made all of the right moves (again), and they've utterly dominated the competition (again).

PS3 at this point seems to be an exception to Sony's record of incredible success that they've had since they launched the original Playstation in the mid-90s.

Currently Playing: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)

That explains part of why so many of the other "holiday releases" were underselling. A lot of people just ignored them and bought older games from the year instead. Both Uncharted and Ratchet were on the top 10 on VGChartz.

Octane

@Dezzy And yet, Mafia 3 already passed the previous entries in terms of sales, Battlefield 1 had the strongest launch on PS4, even Dishonored 2 had a better launch than the first game for what it's worth. From what I can tell, only Titanfall 2 bombed, and COD probably underperformed, though it was still one of the best selling games. Oh yes, Watch_Dogs 2 didn't great either, but there doesn't seem to be a general downward trend. Maybe overall the holiday game sales were down? It definitely feels as if those games came and went this year, none of them made a huge impact.

@Octane

I think you may be wrong on Dishonored 2: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2016-11-14-dishonored-2-lau...
The VGChartz global numbers match this eurogamer UK specific claim too.

We're all of course far too quick to see patterns where they might not exist. That's only 4 games that've undersold. It's entirely possible that people just weren't fussed about those 4 games in particular. I know I wasn't! And Watch Dogs 1 probably massively oversold due to one of the biggest hype campaigns of all time.

@Dezzy You're right! Completely forgot that Dishonored launched on PS3 AND PS4.

Octane

Dezzy

@Octane

It didn't at launch. There was a PS4 port later on. This was comparing just the PS4/Xbone with the X360/PS3.
Dunno about PC.

So I finished The Last Guardian:

I think I could rant for ages about this game. In no way a masterpiece like Shadow of the Colossus but way, way ahead of ICO (the game it has most in common with anyway), but then again that had to happen for me to even finish the game unlike ICO. But yes I'm glad I played this game, overall fun, clever and definitely unique. But also the most frustrating game I've ever played, for all its highs there were many lows, too many for me to ignore. The camera, the controls, Trico's AI, performance on my launch PS4, all these went to atrociously bad levels at times. One reviewer at least called this game a mess from a technical standpoint and I definitely see why, albeit I didn't have as awful an experience as they seemed to, I found Trico to be bearable but still had many annoying moments along the way.

The story was again nothing special, can't agree with people going so far as to call it "magical". The adventure was the best part, the bond between the boy and Trico and how it eveolved, but I wasn't moved to tears and the ending was kinda predictable, but boy am I glad there wasn't a Titanfall 2esque kick in the teeth 'emotional' finale. It was satisfying enough all-in-all.

But I can safely say it will be years before I want to play the game again, I don't fancy experiencing the worst parts of the game anytime soon.

8/10.

@Octane I worked out that during that six weeks festive period, one PlayStation 4 was being sold every 1.75 seconds!

@Ralizah Despite the PlayStation 3 being the exception, it is still the fourth best selling home console of all time, behind the PS2 (155 million), PSone (102½ million) and the Wii (101½ million).

It's absolutely staggering when you think about it, seeing as the PS3 not only launched a whole year later than the Xbox 360, but it was also $200 more expensive too!

Peek-a-boo

Octane

@Peek-a-boo Initial sales weren't great either, but I think that the momentum they had left from the PS1 and PS2 helped them recover from that. Looks like PS4 is back on track. 100+ million lifetime sales are definitely possible. In fact, I'd be more surprised if that didn't happen.

Finished the last guardian and been playing tons of resident evil lately. Revelations 2 is really awesome, I'm hoping they continue that spinoff series with more iconic characters, since I'd prefer over the top nonsense to the PT defenseless horror that re7 seems to be. Still looking forward to it of course, but I'll miss Boulder punching being in the game.

6 isn't as bad as people make it out to be. But, then again, anything can be seen as fun enough if you're doing Co op with the right person

@Operative2-0
I agree about Revelations. Liked the first a lot, love the second one and hope there are plans for a third. I actually like the Revelations spinoffs better than the main numbered games at this point.
