@VoidofLight IX is my favorite FF entry, and I actually played through again a couple of years back. IMO this game really doesn't need a full-scale "VII Style" remake.....
Instead, a really solid remaster of IX would be the best way forward. Something of the same quality and improvements like Metroid Prime exhibited, true to the original with QoL updates and graphical upscaling.
@CJD87 Exactly. It just needs a visual facelift if anything at all. Out of all the games that actually need/deserve a remake, Final Fantasy 6 or Final Fantasy 8 actually need one. 8 due to how the story was written and how Square lost the sourcecode, and 6 because I just want to see it with the same treatment dragon quest 1-3 got.

Making three games out of it sounds even better, to be honest. Final Fantasy IX is a game I would love to go all in. If the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy games were pegi 12 rated, I would play them too.
Edit: This is the biggest reason why I am dissapointed with the new Final Fantasies, because they used to have a USK 12 rating and XVI is even grim dark with a 16 rating. I feel left out for no good reason. But I feel like they would not go that route with Final Fantasy IX.
@Jhena ehhh. Stretching one game into three isn’t a good idea. Only worked for 7 due to having a ton of lore in external materials. IX is just the single game, so stretching it out into 3 would feel more artificial and awful.

@Jhena
The last Roman number Final Fantasy game I played is FF XIII despite it has terrible gameplay that made the game harder.
FF XIII was rated PEGI 16 surprisingly despite it rated USK 12 on the disc.
Also, it was unfair to rated FF XII as PEGI 16 when the game itself was rated USK 12, 12+ in Chinese age rating.
Both FF 12 and FF 13 are still PEGI 12 / USK 12 material.
@VoidofLight
I have not played the remake yet, so I can not tell if it would feel stretched out or not. But I am sure they have enough ideas to expand the lore and sidequests, if they feel like they can make three games out of it.
@Anti-Matter
Yep, I would also say Final Fantasy XII and XIII deserve an age rating of 12.
The human designs in Metaphor are genuinely terrifying at times, and I love that so much. The game really pushes that T rating that it has, and doesn't seem to throw many punches outside of cropping out seeing people being eaten or hung.
I also love how a good number of the human designs are actually based off of demons that Bosch created for his piece "The Garden of Earthly Delights," a three panel piece showing, Heaven, Earth, and Hell. It helps to give these creatures a genuinely uncanny feeling, especially compared to the unique monsters that are supposed to be "normal" in this world.
Just got done with the second dungeon, and I'm looking forwards to the third one. The story feels a slight bit generic, like I could probably tell where everything is going to end- but I feel like even then it's pretty well written. Really enjoyable in the moment, and I feel like the dialogue is well handled as well.

I'm towards the end of Metaphor, and so far I think it's a pretty solid game. Not the best game ever made (truth be told no game is), but I genuinely have been enjoying it for what it is.
I've seen a good few people comment about how the twists don't feel like they've been built up towards at all- and that there's no use of foreshadowing.. but I don't see it? There pacing can be wonky at times given the shorter calendar system, but the twists are foreshadowed a good bit in advance. Especially if you read the lore compendium and start to connect the dots after the twists.
I have one more month of the game to go, so I hope it'll end up ending in a pretty interesting way.

I just wanna say, the new game from Silent Hill's creator has been getting mixed reviews and because I guess some of the people from Japan Studio worked on it, there's a group of people I've seen on Twitter who are too cowardly to directly say but are heavily implying "yeah that's why my man Sony fired them all, smart move"
I cannot describe how much I hate these fanboys. I was there in gaming forums back in 2003, and these are the worst PS fanboys ever, with the only caveat to disregard anyone who has sent death threats. But otherwise, THE worst. The very worst. I am furious I had to see their opinions. I don't even like it when they try to justify it for Concord, ah yes hundreds of people are clearly to blame for like a handful of people deciding to make a worthless live service game, but doing this to justify shutting down Japan Studio is just embarrassing.
Also who is still doing console war bs in 2024? These are like the gaming equivalent of those people who got stuck on an island unaware that World War 2 had ended.
I'd appreciate a bit of help with a couple of questions plese, I have bought a PS5 for my son's christmas present. I just wondered if I should consider downloading updates etc. before i give it to him. If it's not too long a process then I wouldn't bother, but if it's going to take an age I might consider it.
I also wondered if the playstation is like the switch with fortnite, where you can play online without needing a playstation account?
@dew12333
PS5 has some games that you can play Online without making PS Plus subscription for at least $60, they are Free to Play games.
But, most of those Free to Play games are not suitable for kids.
Fortnite is not a kids game, it rated Teen and also the game have a lot of crossover of characters from different franchise that might be inappropriate for kids to be introduced because they are from adult games.
There is Roblox for PS5 and you can play Online for free, but if I'm a parent I will not recommend Roblox for my kids due to inappropriate issue from other players outside that might be saying bad words or wearing inappropriate outfits.
My games recommendation for your son. (Offline games)
I also included some PS4 games since PS5 is backward compatible with PS4 games and some of PS4 games get boosted performance on PS5.
Solo
Yonder the Cloud Catcher Chronicles
Paw Patrol games
The Smurfs games
Kao the Kangaroo
Bluey
Ice Age
Story of Seasons games
DreamWorks Dragon (PS4)
Nexomon + Nexomon Extinction (PS4)

@Anti-Matter Thank you for replying and the recomendations. He is 12 and from the UK so is mostly playing Fortnite and Rocket League, but also enjoys some mariokart and mario party games. He's not interested in all the Bluey, Paw Patrol games anymore, more interested in playing older games now.
However I noted yourself and others talking about Portal Knights some time ago, so we tried that and enjoyed that.
Thanks again.
@CJD87 Thank you for your comment. I have been considering getting PS plus, I think he will benefit from having a few games to try. I have looked at It takes 2 but the price had put me off before, if it's free on PS plus then I am sure we we will try it out.
I am confident we will like too as we have enjoyed several co op games, Cuphead, Portal Knights, Cat Quest1&2, Overcooked, Moving out.
