I have no interest in this Avengers game at all, even though I loved all the movies (Infinity War especially)
It just seems incredibly generic and feels like it's almost an EA game in that it's aimed at the most casual mainstream audience imaginable, and is purely designed around monetization.
It'll probably sell massive numbers either way though, the Avengers name just has such a massive market appeal.
It may be partly due to Disney. If licensing is incredibly expensive, SE is probably looking at other ways to make this more profitable. Hence the online component and the loot system. Sucks either way.
I would just want something like the Arkham trilogy or the recent Spiderman game. Those were "movie games" done right, even if they weren't technically movie games.

"Once you can execute and deliver, when it comes down to choices of where and what Spider-Man can be, that's a relationship question that PlayStation absolutely has the rights to, that as you guys know, with Sony's ownership there, and Marvel with Sony saying, ‘Hey, this is something we can do. This is something we can do on this platform.’”
I think the Crystal Dynamics guys might've just confirmed that Sony has a degree of control over Spider-Man's game presence in addition to his movie rights. Goddamn
@Magician Idk about that one honestly. SE seems to slowly be embracing Xbox as a viable platform for their big name JRPGs. KH3 and FFXV came at launch on XB1, the console eventually got a crap ton of FF and KH games in addition to DQXI S being announced before the Xbox Games Showcase. I can see it reasonably getting a Series X and PC release.

Eh, I'm not convinced we hear anything about FF16 for quite a while. A while ago I checked all of the different business divisions with Squenix, and I'm pretty sure they're all busy on other things. I think they only have 4 different big budget teams, and those teams are all busy working on FF7 Remake, FF14, Project Athia and Dragon Quest XII.
Maybe they've secretly created another team though?
He's gonna make a statement like that and then wonder why Avengers didn't sell particularly well. This is a bad PR move for a game that already doesn't have the best things going for it reception wise in light of the beta impressions. This exact comment sounds like something a redditor trying to start a console war in a comment thread would say.
It also doesn't help that when questioned as to why he's PlayStation exclusive he takes like 8 sentences to say something that basically amounts to "It's because Sony is in control of the character's game appearances."
@Dezzy I think it'll sell modestly based on brand recognition but it's definitely not doing Spider-Man numbers in my opinion, especially since Miles Morales is launching pretty close to it if previous PlayStation console release windows are any indication. If the PS versions of this game do end up outselling the other platforms, then whatever hype Avengers currently has with that playerbase will probably dissipate pretty quickly when Miles Morales launches given how well the PS4 game sold, and particularly because the PS5 version of Avengers is also projected to be a launch title, which I also don't think will sell nearly as well as Spider-Man either.
Oh yeah Spiderman has sold like 15 million. One of the best-selling games this generation. A lot of that is to do with being a first party PS4 exclusive though. Sony promote the hell out of their first party stuff. It's obviously a great game too of course.
Avengers will definitely sell over 5 million though, probably closer to 10. Just look at some of the view numbers the youtube trailers have got.
@Dezzy A lot of it has to do with it being treated like a big first party PS IP, but I also just think the public is generally more attached to Spidey compared to literally any other Marvel character, even in the post-MCU phase of their existence as a brand. People aren't going to go crazy if Kamala Khan or Clint Barton are in a game like they would for Peter Parker. I'm sure the MCU has definitely done more than enough to boost the pop culture cred of characters like Iron Man and Thor, who were probably B tier characters before then in terms of recogniton, but they will never hold a candle to the massive following and iconography Spider-Man has.
Yeah a multiplatform Avengers game is going to sell just fine. Not speaking of the quality of the experience, but in terms of units I don't think it will be anywhere close to a "flop" no matter how good or bad it is.
I don't recall Iron Man ever being a B character, but this isn't the first time a specific character has only been on one platform. Soul Caliber instantly comes to mind. Plus, it's just more in line with the recent Spiderman games on Sony consoles.

I don't think any game ever made has needed to sell 15 million in order to profit.
Even if the developer only sees half of the revenue, 15 million sales would mean revenue of $450 million. I think the biggest budget ever is still under $300 million.
Even if the developer only sees half of the revenue, 15 million sales would mean revenue of $450 million.
It doesn’t work like that, the price a game is sold for in shops isn’t the what the game companies get. Also developers normally get bonus from the publishers rather than a split of revenue.
That's why I said "even if the developer only sees half the revenue". By developer in this example, I meant the people funding it. So publisher rather than developer then.
