Interesting choice, @BruceCM! If I do get Nocturne I also plan to get it on Switch. But Mass Effect? PS4. I don’t know why but there’s something so good about playing a video game on a dedicated console without any need for optimisation and all.
I also don’t know why I feel more incentivised to buy games on Switch even if they arguably run better on other consoles. Example; Persona 5 Strikers.
@TheJGG for me games with any type of grinding are so much better suited on a portable system (reason why even though I could buy persona 4 golden on Steam I am still hoping for atlus to open their eyes...)
@TheJGG Well. they don't "arguably run better." They run better.
With that said, there are a dozen reasons to play something like Strikers on Switch. Maybe you like the ability to play away from the TV. Maybe you want to play it with a Pro controller (you can actually do this on PC as well, but some people don't want to hassle with that). Maybe you like that it's a true physical game, with everything necessary on the cart to begin with. Maybe you prefer playing on their weaker hardware for reasons related to brand preferentialism, in the same way Sony fans would often play their games on PS4, even if they owned good PCs and the console versions ran worse.
I don't have either console, so it had to be PC, @TheJGG .... Then, since I'd have to use Origin with the game anyway, I might as well get it there. Especially since I got the discount for that version
As expected, it runs fine. Load times are quick, and I'm not seeing any performance issues thus far. It's beautiful having this classic in portable form on a Nintendo console. Nice voice acting, too.
Didn't have a lot of time to play today, but I did, at least, get to Shibuya and talk to Chiaki
I’m the same as others, I’ve got the game already but I want to finish off a few other games before I start a big ‘ol JRPG. Touchwood I will actually start and finish it before SMT5 comes out.
I've been playing for hours. Primarily recruiting new demons, but have also made it to the Ginza Underpass. Actually been avoiding fusing any demons, since I want to make slightly higher level ones, and some of these demons have collections of skills I just hate to break up. So I'll be grinding to level Demi-Fiend up a bit so that he can handle these more powerful demons.
This game is so much fun. Particularly now that you can choose to save certain skills in fusions. It's very PS2, of course, so there's unavoidable old game jank baked into it, but they got so much right with this entry.
Really nice that I don't have to play this on a TV now.
Playing on normal, and haven't died yet. That could be because I'm turning into a series vet. Or it could be because I have sukunda on two of my demons and have been making it almost impossible for my enemies to hit me.
I think two of my demons have War Cry as well. It's going to be hilarious stacking those two debuffs on bosses. I LOVE how Nocturne handles buffs and debuffs.
@Balta666 I definitely notice how compressed the music is (primarily the battle tracks, which sound like they were recorded in a bathroom), but... eh. It's not a deal-breaker for me, especially since its performs far better on Switch than I had been led to believe. Infrequent, second-long framerate dips when attacks are happening are not worth getting upset about, lol.
@Ralizah I don't know the original do it does not bother me I guess. The enviroments on the other hand are quite dull for a PS2 era game (any FF from the PS One is 10x better looking).
And I actually never died outside Matador fight (have finish mantra now) and I feel I have a good team at the moment.
I think E3 has a good chance. Nintendo likely wants to push this game really hard seeing as how it's basically their big third party title this year assuming it's not getting delayed again. I think we're at least getting some gameplay or story trailer at E3 and then a release date closer to the Fall season
Plus considering Persona's 25th is around the corner they obviously have to prioritize this at some point this year

SMT V really needs to be at E3, in some form. It's the perfect opportunity to show it off, and it's one of the big premier third-party exclusives they're publishing.
Matador is a joke if you go in knowing what to do. My fuzzy memories of Nocturne from a decade or so ago were still enough that I steamrolled him on my first attempt yesterday. Although I did forget how... SUDDENLY... he accosts you.
I maintain that SMT IV's Minotaur is the hardest early boss in any of these games. Even fully prepared, he can still easily roll you into an early grave with critical hits.
@CactusMan I can see where you coming from. I have not lost another battle yet but the last fight I had (with a certain guy in a motorbike) when he went full attacks mode on 2nd stage he nearly knocked down one of my demons (and it was the healer...) and it could have gone bad
@Balta666 Oh yeah, pretty much everyone dies to Matador at first if they're not prepared for the fight. He's there to test your understanding of the mechanics, because he's either fairly easy or nearly impossible to beat, depending on the sensitivity of your demons to force magic and ability to destroy his accuracy.
@Ralizah so far i am not sure he is that important as a teacher of buffs and debuffs as every boss after that one had a move to erase his own debuffs and another to remove team buffs. I started not using them anymore and go the more tank aproach (definitely you need to mix vulnerabilities in order to be able to remove turns off course)
@boop23 I don't know as I never played the original but the fact that you choose the skills when fusing is very op as you can allways choose what is fundamental to your tactic
