I know. So, I guess you also don't have the PS3 version.
Playing this game and man... it's a mess. The drifting is off and the track editor is laughable. I don't know why but I'm making a track and then there's a part for some unknown reason when test driving, the car goes through and under the track and the character keeps 'resetting' as if I've gone off course.
Mario Kart Wii is bouncy and all, but it really puts this game to shame on the controls. At least each kart and character are handled differently and Modnation racers, evidently and playing for more than an hour- doesn't.
I love the concept but no. This game is a mess. A huge mess.

There's other issues. The parts are usless it seems. I honestly see no benefits or improvements on the parts I put on my car. It's just for looks. Correct me if I'm wrong but to me, they do nothing.
Boosting? Well... That's useless. I mean, I use it but it doesn't help much at all. How the hell are the other racers keeping up with me when they are not boosting. I should pass them. They should not keep up with my boost.
Then there's the weapons. Problem is, I knock a racer out. 3 seconds later, they are passing me and are boosting ahead. WTF?
If that happened to me, I wouldn't be able to keep up nor does my boost meter fill up when I'm blown up. And if you drift wrong, well, you might as well start the whole race again cause there goes 5 racers passing you. Boost? Don't get your hopes up, because you just won't catch up. There's a difference between challenging and frustrating. And what sucks is that I need to go through career mode to unlock everything- when it's hot mess. The track editor is janked up too.
The only way I'd enjoy this game is really playing online. This game has nothing on Mario Kart even with the track editor (again, a mess). Though Mario Kart Wii has it's flaws and it's a helluva bouncy, at least it doesn't cheat me like this game. Even though I got Modnation Racers PSP for free, it isn't worth the space on my memory stick. Really disappointing because I love games that involve creation and customization.
Whatever. I hope the developers really make sure their game isn't messy. I really don't know what's wrong with SCE San Diego. And United Front Games with the problems the PS3 version had. Are they really close to Media Molecule? Really?
Because Media Molecule makes the quality title, Little Big Planet. They should have probably given MM Modnation Racers. I don't know.
But I'll be moving on to Killzone:Liberation. At least that game isn't a mess and provides a challenge and not complete frustration.

I get the impression that you haven't put in enough time to get good with the mechanics, and given that you put a lot more time into MK Wii, it feels like the superior game. I played it for a little while on my friend's PSP at the office earlier--felt fine, looked surprisingly decent for a PSP game, and seemed to require more skill to do well than Mario Kart (and at the same time, wasn't nearly as based on dumb luck in terms of "oops--lightning lawl!") The course editor was kinda hilarious though .
And holy crap where did Pursuit Force come from!? Never even heard of this game, but got it for free and holy crap! May not win the nobel prize for "Most Believable Situations", but I'll be damned if it's not the most over-the-top PSP game I've ever played. And man is it purdy!

I put in enough time to come to a conclusion. Modnation Racers is simply broken. I'm not going to waste any more time with it because at the end of the day, if I'm playing a game and getting frustrated with it than actually enjoying it- I'm cutting it off. The game shows it's rushed (that sudden announcement that it's coming to the PSP should have been a red flag from the get go).
MKWii has it's issues and is certainly a step down from Mario Kart DS but at least it isn't messy as Modnation Racers. I went into full detail with the problems with the game, so I really don't understand how you can come to conclusion that I haven't spent enough time with the game. No offense, but I really don't understand that at all.
If you wanted me to list the problems of MK Wii- I'll be glad to. I don't let my love for Nintendo's games and the company itself cloud the flaws of games which is seemingly what some people are doing here on all sides and it's really evident.
When a game is flawed, I'll call it out. But Modnation Racers is on another level of it. I don't judge the game on it's looks and say "Hey, it's good." Sure, it looks.. I guess impressive, I don't know, seen better PSP games.
Does the game require more skill? If you say so. I suppose it does, but that doesn't keep it from being called broken in my book. Mario Kart Wii having luck? Debateable. If you're really good, forget the luck. But I'm expecting Mario Kart 3DS to be above Mario Kart Wii and fix the issues with the game and balance things out a bit more like Mario Kart DS (just, no snaking plz- even though I did that it gets boring and it's just tacky).
I think it's pure dookie. That's just me though. But there's too many problems, glitches and bugs in the game. I don't understand where developer's get the idea of releasing games and think "Hey! We can just patch it up after!"
Stupidest idea. This happened with Conduit2's concept online and man, the game just sucks.
But hey, take the risk. Try the demo out first. When I tried it, I thought it was good (and for some reason, think that the demo played better than the full release). If you haven't downloaded Killzone, well, you should get that over Modnation Racers. But take your pick and make the final judgement yourself.
yeah i was almost instantly turned off by Killzone...controls weren't very first-time accessible and I didn't feel I had a ton of control over where I was aiming...if I would've put more time into it maybe I would've found something to like, but I paid like 3 bucks for it used a few years ago and didn't feel it was worth investing the extra time.
Still haven't played either Dissidia game....not sure why I've avoided it. It's kinda like Kingdom Hearts--no real experience with the series or reason to dislike it, but still don't see any reason to go pick them up and get started.

some series are just like that for me.

Haha, funny you bring that up.
The group of people behind Dissidia is the same team that brought us Kingdom Hearts. That game was a huge influence in the way Dissidia plays.
