Tactics Ogre is also on PSN, and we're apparently getting FF1 and FF2 at some point. Square-Enix is getting better when it comes to PSN releases for sure. I just think Type-0 might be a problem and will probably take a while.

FF 1 and 2 is out here... But no sign of Tactics Ogre in Australia yet
Woah, I am surprised, because you used to hate Sony. What game are you playing that changed your opinion on the PSP?
By the way, is anyone else going to buy The 3rd Birthday besides me? It is coming out in NA on March 29th.
I was totally gonna put my Birthday money towards it, until I read some reader impressions, which make it sounds like it sucks. Bosses take way too long to take down (though some do have tricks), the gameplay gets repetitive, and the story is batty and not particularly good. I'll still get it to judge it for myself, but after I've gotten a job and everything so I have some spare cash for it. It helps that it's only $30.
Are you familiar with the Tactics Ogre game, Waltz, because if not, you're in for a treat.
I'd rank it as one of the best, and most satisfying games I've ever played (even though when I first played it through emulation, I couldn't read the Japanese text, and the shop screen was corrupted).
Naturally, I jumped at the opportunity to buy it in Europe (despite not owning a PSP - thankfully, my sister graced me with her old PSP in exchange for some wii downloads), and it's turning out to be a much better game.
I was a bit dissapointed you couldn't train your troops individually initially (in fact, they remove the whole training function altogether), as it means your troops (denim, katchua and characters like that aside) end up dispensible. "Oh no! Rodney's died. Oh well. I'll just recruit a level 20 clone in all but name..."
I've played the two Ogre Battle, and Tactics Ogre on the GBA.
It's a great series, but I personally do prefer Final Fantasy tactics. Perhaps partly because I wish that the series had have stuck with the RTS format. My initial impressions of the PSP game are the same (and the visuals are nowhere near as clear as I would like), but I can see myself sinking many hours into ts game anyway.
I have VS stored in my PS3 game files. The controls are really weird and I accidentally skipped dialogue as you have no clue on when a cutscenes occurs.

Yeah, Vagrant Story definitely took some getting used to. I still haven't quite gotten it down, actually. I still end up destorying blocks when I meant to jump.
Just found out one of my favourite PS2 games was ported to PSP and is available on PSN. Look up The Red Star. It's a cross between Streets of Rage with RPG elements and bullet hell shmups (like Ikaruga). It's most fun with a friend, though I don't know if the PSP version has 2P mode. Some gameplay footage:
The Red Star reminds me of a Metal Slug/Shadow Complex mash up more then Streets of Rage.
Hmm. To clarify, The Red Star involves more HtH combat than is shown in the video but the players there are noobs and keep using their guns for everything. In general you use melee weapons for smaller enemies and guns for bosses but there are plenty of exceptions to that rule. If you fast forward to about 1:30 it shows a a sub-boss which reveals its bullet hell influences. The genre crossover in the game is pretty original.
Gameplay occurs in a 3D environment like arcade beat 'em ups (SoR, TMNT, Power Stone) rather than on a side-scrolling 2D plane (Metal Slug, Shadow Complex, Contra). Plus there is no platforming since there isn't a jump button, nor can you aim your gun vertically. The comparison between TRS and SoR is a common one which I agree with.
Oh, and it has the obligatory descending elevator level where enemies jump down at you. Good times.
