Looking to get a PSP for monser hunter. Should I get the regular psp or psp go?

If you don't have any other UMD games already, a fast Internet connection and easy access to PSN credit, then the PSPgo is the better console. It's smaller, lighter and sleeker, holds plenty of games in internal memory (16gb), and these days, what's on the PSN for sale is good.

I like my PSPgo.

Mickeymac will tell you PSP 3000 and WaltzElf will tell you Go. So which user do you trust more? >:3

I'd say PSP 3000, because there are lots of great retail games that aren't on the PSN store (and the retail games are much cheaper than the PSN versions), it's more comfortable from my experience (tried the Go at Best Buy), and it has a bigger screen.

The Go is more portable, has 16gb of internal memory (memory sticks can be pretty high in price) and... not much else I can think of. Look at the above post for more :3

Btw, you can get everything you can buy on the Go on the 3000 also. No exclusives or anything afaik
Edit: anyone know if you can create accounts for different regions like you can on the PS3? There are some Japanese only PSN titles that catch my eye.

There's actually a tonne of PSN exclusives - PSN Minis and PSOne classics are not available at retail. With memory cards you can play those on a PSP 3000, yes, but that ends up being expensive.

With the PSP Go you have 16GB internal memory, and can back up everything else to PC or PS3 for easy transfer. Much easier than a memory card system for the PSP 3000.

So if you want to play minis and psone classics, the Go is the superior choice.

As for setting up different accounts - you can, but it's unweildy. You can only have one account active at a time, and can't access games from other accounts in the meantime. The method for swapping accounts is ugly, too.

I actually have two PSP gos for that reason - one for my Australian content, and one for Japanese content.

Looking into cost effectiveness, you can buy games at cheaper retail prices, or even used, and the system is cheaper. If he just wants Monster Hunter and a few other games, He can get it and the system for a far lower price than he could with the Go.

@Waltz: Sorry for misunderstanding, I meant Go exclusives. In fact, my sentence pretty much says that. I think...

For the effort that you have to go to to get psone classics and minis on a PSP 3000.... They may as well be Go exclusive.

Also Mickey, while you might be able to get individual PSN games cheaper at retail, the convenience of being able to shop from home and guarantee that the game is available to buy outweighs those small savings.

The ability to have a collection of games across a number of consoles on the device without having to buy additional memory cards and so on also elevates the Go, IMO.

Basically it's the retail vs digitally downloaded debate. If you prefer retail shopping, stay away from the Go. If you'd not stuck in the dark ages () the the Go is great value.

Im really going to be using it for monster hunter. Which is like hours and hours of gameplay so I guess ill get the cheapest option. Thanks guys!

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, would you kindly?

zezhyrule

I was really planning on getting a Go, but the the position of the buttons talked me out of it. I should have said this earlier @Chucko, but the "claw" which is used in MH to control the camera is impossible to do on a Go.

Sure, you could just be one of those L button pushers, but if the only reason I'm getting a PSP is for Monster Hunter, might as well get the console most suited to it.

Ah, the "claw". I use that in MH3 thanks to the CC2 control scheme. The transition to a PSP MH wouldn't be too bad for me, I think. I didn't realise they moved the controls around a bit for the PSP Go. That's a bit of a shame really.

Looking forward to Final Fantasy Type-0 now as it looks more FF then XIII and Versus by a long shot...and with the PSP being home to RPGs it suits the more retro styled genre well.

My Starloggery

Main Final Fantasy & Quest/Shinobi Team fan...but I do like many SEGA games and a few Nintendo games.

I can be cute if I want to be, but I choose not to...as it's not my style.

Axoloth

From the little gameplay I've seen, I'd say Final Fantasy Type-0 plays kinda sorta like Valkyria Chronicles. Without the turn-based system, of course, but I got the impression you can change between characters on a big battlefield. The concept would be pretty cool, if it turns out that's actually how it works.

I have a Backloggery now! Nothin' fancy, but feel free to add me as a friend.

I'm thinking of buying Lunar: Silver Star Harmony. However, I don't really know if the game is any good. The demo which I really enjoyed left me wanting more. And even though the demo was short I had to use gamefaqs to see how those ice thingies could be broken. Talking about fail .

I thought Final Fantasy Type-0 was the spiritual successor to Crisis Core? That's why I wanted it so much.

It kind of is but my point was the fact that it'll play really well compared to the ones on the consoles.

Valkyria Final Fantasy Chronicles? Sounds like a plan.

Nah, I'm really looking forward to this, and I hope it gets a PSN release.
