How does Ys Seven play as an ARPG? Is it similar to KH or is it entirely different?

Ironic as I bought Valkyria Chronicles II and Kingdom Hearts: BbS about a month ago and I only just completed the former and trying to finish up the latter.

I don't want to sidetrack the ARPG discussion but can enyone recommend Castlvania Dracula X? I'm a big fan of NES/SNES/REBIRTH Castlevania. But not so much DS Castlevanias ( where you have to manage items etc.) What is the PSP game like? I don't want to get it if it's like the DS games..

RPGs are incredibly devires. I'll leave the in-depth explaination to Slapshot, but I will say this: if you're thinking of trying it, don't go in expecting Kingdom Hearts, just as you shouldn't go into a Kingdom Hearts game expecting Secret of Mana.

You'll love it. Stop reading this and buy it right now. Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles is the superb remake of the last great Old School Castlevania, Rondo of Blood. I can honestly say that it plays just as good, if not better than those other CV games you mentioned. I am personally a fan of the old CVs, and from what I've played (I'm on the final stage), it's one of the best Castlevanias around. I'm not sure how it compares to Rondo of Blood, but I'll find out once I beat it - it's included as an unlockable, along with Symphony of the Night, which every Castlevania fan should play, regardless of whether you prefer the old-school or the new school. To sum things up, this game is perfect for you!

So I finally got myself a new PSP after the previous one my brother found in a bush broke. Gonna celebrate with some BBS.

Good to hear Terra, and it sounds like you're celebrating with the perfect game, too.

Indeed it is. First though, I'm gonna finish Crisis Core at long last

I should finish that, too, but not until I fininsh Final Fantasy 7...which'll be some time between this century and the next.

@Terra.... they have made the KH series where you can play them without previous games experience, but it helps, BUT saying that Ill say this. KH story is so twisted and hard to undertand it really doesnt matter lol.

As for Ys, give it a shot. Im sure when the new game drops in a few months the price will go down even cheaper and I promise you its a game you will want to finish. Im no Final Fantasy nut and didnt finish Crisis Core or Dissidia but Ys is just something special that comes around every now and then in gaming.

lol of course. Although I have never played the Secret of Mana before.

Also Final Fantasy 7 feels like the longest game ever created....the story segments in it are that long by the time you have access to the whole overworld you are already at level 50/60.

Hey, I'm looking for some more "Normal" RPGs for the PSP, meaning nothing like Crisis Core or Kingdom Hearts, you know, all those breaks from the norm. I just a standard roleplaying experience on the PSP. Anybody have any suggestions?

Maybe you should look for Half-Minute Hero. It's really, really easy to play and higly addictive. For me, it's the best RPG in the console.

I have it, but it's as far away from a standard experience as you can get...

You could get a Final Fantasy off of PSN. They have some other RPGs on there too I think

What are those other RPGs? Or rather, which would you, or anybody at this point, recommend? Because I see them there but I can't tell which are and aren't utterly broken and unfun.

@Mickey.... look at XSEED and Atlus prior titles for PSP, there are a lot of very generic RPGs on PSP, though I havent played any of them.

Im actually looking forward to acquiring Metal Gear Peace Walker.

@Terra-Since BBS is essentially a prequel to every other game in the series, you should be able to understand it even if you hadn't played any of the other KH games. BBS is so far the best PSP game I have ever played.

So anyway, I bought a 32 GB Memory Stick for my PSP and after redownloading all my PSP games/PS One Classics to my PSP via the PS3 [took me DAYS to do all that], I'm surprised to see that I still have plenty of room for more games to download. I was considering downloading Metal Gear Solid:Peace Walker, Ys Seven, Lunar:Silver Star Harmony, and Valkyria Chronicles 2. I know Peace Walker and Ys Seven are good games, but has anyone played Lunar:Silver Star Harmony or Valkyria Chronicles 2 to know if it's good or not?

Lunar: Yes. It's a classic to behold. The gameplay's interesting, and the story is fantasic. I highly recommend it. There's also a demo of Valkyria Chronicles 2 if you want to check out the gameplay mechanics, which is probably one of the most important things in a Strategy RPG anyways.

I bought a PSP 2000 around the 3000's launch for import games since the PSP is region free. There were a lot of PS2 and PSX remakes put on the PSP that I was able to pick up. Most of my collection consists of Japanese language games, though I do have a few English games too. But sadly, I don't use my PSP that much. I think my DS gets way more screen time.
