@Above member: Try Valkyria Chronicles II and Kingdom Hearts:BbS, awesome games and with Dissidia 012 and Valkyria Chronicles III due to release next year I'd say the PSP has gained momentum play-wise.
I just started FF 9 yesterday. I had it on the PS2 but never got into it. Seems to be pretty groovy. So far the only two downloaded games I have are FF7 and FF9. Is 8 worth getting?

FF7 is one of my fav RPG's, 2nd only to Chrono Trigger IMO, loved FF9 found the characters pretty interesting, FF8 on the other hand was a disaster, worst RPG I've ever played, can't believe I actually wasted the time beating it, bad story plus the worst most annoying cast of characters ever, if you like spoony, he did a playthrough of it detailing its awfulness:
All Spoony does is nitpick pointless crap for the sake of entertainment and rarely ever brings up anything truly worth mentioning.
With that said, FF8's story is terrible. It's pure MacGuffin and there's no reason why you should pay any attention to it. Of course, plenty of games have their fair share of MacGuffin, including FF7 and FF9, and while FF8 may have more than most, I still don't see why now all of a sudden it's a problem. The rest - the scaracters, gameplay, etc. - is up to and at times exceeds the standards the series has set up until that point. In other words, Final Fantasy 8 is a quality game. End of story.
Well dang...I wanted to discuss it some more and then you went and ended the whole story. Killjoy.
I purchased both a PC version of FF7 when it first came out, then eventually the PS version when I got one of those. I could just never get into it and could never see why it was the cat's meow. However, it has been a much more rewarding experience on my PSP. Maybe it's just the portability of it or the fact that I can just turn it off whenever I want and pick it right back up later without the need of being bothered to look for a save point.
I first played FF7 on the PSP, I found it to be a bit easy, but My bro told me, "back then that game took him 2hrs to beat the last Boss" it only took me 5 Mins
FF8 Was the First FF game I played I had it on the PS one, But that game was Hard to beat, and I never got to the End, " I was 9, at the time My Sis had the game". maybe now I can beat it.
FF9 was the easy to beat, and it looks great, But it really short.
There Three great games, I Wouldn't pass up a Good FF game.

Ys 7 is NOT a game to be missed on PSP. Not only is this one of my favorite games on PSP but its one of the best Action RPGs Ive yet played. Grab this game, you will not be dissapointed.

I'll see if I can get to Wal-Mart sometime next Week and pick it up, along with Valkyria Chronicles 2. Any other good RPGs out recently that I'm forgetting?
@Mickey.... oh this is definately a game for you man. Its like Childern of Mana on Steroids. Its a XSEED published game (originally I thought it was Atlus) but it uses a 3 party combat system where its all real time action RPG with all characters having different attack types with Limits, etc.
The bosses are Monster Hunter esque greatness and I would recommend playing on Hard or Knightmare (im playing hard) and the perfectly named Titanos monsters that you come face to face with, the battles can last 30min and upwards to an hour of pure learning the boss patterns, strategies and just plain out enduring the fights.
Perfect controls and great graphics are just another plus to this game.
WHY DOESNT EVERYBODY KNOW ABOUT THIS GAME ?????

No advertising. If it weren't for reviews and Collector friends, I wouldn't have even known about it, and even then I refused to believe it was any good until I saw it in action.
@Mickey... yep exactly. Though they did have some stand up ads in my local Gamestop, but yeah not near enough advertisement for such an incredible game. Ive never even played a Ys game until this one and dont care, this game is incredible!

I actually liked the first two games, but the third and 4th didn't do anything for me, and from what I had heard the series was on a downward slope, hence why I ignored Ys Seven when I first heard about it. Ys Seven is probably the first really good entry in the series in a while.

Bought it day one, will probably play more of it tonight. It is indeed, pretty awesome. A very well-built Dungeon Crawling Action RPG that's perfect in short bursts, a vital quality for on-the-go games like this.
Cladun? what is that game all aoubt, slipped right under the radar.
It's a new Nis RPG that came out just last week. It's a Retro-style dungeon crawler with a deep and interesting customization system. It's got a lot of cheeky humor and some fun, albeit short, dungeons to hack 'n' slash your way through. I found it to be pretty enjoyable so far. It's also fairly cheap for a new PSP game, so you may want to give it a look.
With that said, I'm more looking forward to Nis' other Dungeon Crawler, ZHP, which I unfortunately mistook Cladun for, leaving me with no more funds for games.
You also design your own characters. That was kind of the selling point for me. =P
