don't forget that the top selling consoles this gen and last gen, and last gen handhelds, were the ones with inferior graphics

I'm sure it did.
But in the end it comes down to what a majority of people want more I guess.

Well, yeah...
We all just want a good game in the end really.
My main point earlier was the fact that the most essential building block for a great game is great gameplay, which in my opinion Nintendo manages to provide over and over again with their first party titles.
I'm not saying the Vista won't have any games with great gameplay, but I think you can get my point.
And as far as graphics go, yes, the Vista has better graphics than the 3DS... but the 3DS's graphics are still good, and definitely sufficient enough so that it doesn't take anything away from the gameplay.

No. I don't get your point. I will never understand why people feel the need to break a game down and pretend that you can consider visuals, sound and gameplay as separate elements in a game.

Aesthetics are critical to a good game. The mistake you (and most other people) make is in thinking that Nintendo consoles are incapable of producing strong aesthetics.

The 3DS is as capable visually as the Vita. The 3DS is less capable technically. There's a difference.

Professional game reviewers break down games and consider gameplay, visuals, and sound separate elements.

Just for you.

All I'm really trying to say is that I'd still be able to love a game coming out now that looks like a N64 game even as long as it's a really fun experience. I completely understand what you're saying and I agree that a great game consists of the right combination of visuals, sounds and gameplay and you can't really judge a game based on just one or the other. I'm just not that fussed about how a game looks visually, but more about how enjoyable it is to play...

A game that makes your eyes bleed is not going to be fun to play.

I guess the people at Gameinformer aren't good reviewers. 20 years of noobness.

Just for you.

N64 games don't make my eyes bleed...
Ocarina of Time is still just as fun now, so is Super Mario 64... If they made new games that looked like those with gameplay as good as those I would still thoroughly enjoy them.

I can't remember a single review in Game Informer where the critics broke the game down into individual elements. And certainly in Edge the critics consider a game as a game, not as a series of arbitrary and meaningless building blocks.

N64 games don't make my eyes bleed...
Ocarina of Time is still just as fun now, so is Super Mario 64...

Both of which are very attractive games. You're missing the point entirely.

But both of which if they were released today would be considered to look outdated, yet would be more enjoyable to play than most other games around.
