Topic: Is the PS Vita in trouble?

Now that the 3DS is $169.99, it's getting Blockbuster Titles like Mario, & Kid Icraus this Hoilday, and that it has a whole hoilday to it self.
Should Sony be worried? I mean now the general parent will prob go with the $80 cheaper 3DS, because of the economy. And PS Vita games could be up to $49.99. And by the time that the PS Vita hits UK, US, and AUS shores. Will the PS Vita be able to compete, even with good aditional early 2012 titles like Crush 3D, Shonobi, Heros of Ruin and Metal Snake?

Only time will tell. Seems Sony likes to shoot themselves in the foot with every system release

Is the 3DS in trouble? Is the Vita in trouble? We don't know, man!

If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.

It might just be. Sony is really missing a giant opportunity by not hitting the holiday season in anywhere but one region. Plus as you mentioned, by the time Vita is out, the 3DS will have built up a very solid library. Plus with 3DS's new low price its looking like a very similar situation to the DS vs PSP battle. Hardcore Nintendo fans will buy 3DS, hardcore PS fans will buy Vita. The group that matters though, the biggest group by far, are those looking for some type of game platform without real preference. To those people, they will look at 250 and 170. Their decision will be fairly obvious.

Are they? If Sony really wanted to hit NA and EU's holiday seasons, they could, but they're not. Chances are, they're trying to give their developers and themselves more time to work on Vita games/hardware so that they can avoid Nintendo's mistake of launching their system prematurely. Additionally, it can give them more of an edge to market the system to the non-preferential group for next year's holiday season and try to convince more of that group that the more expensive option is the better one, rather than have to launch their system in a tight window and compete with Nintendo. Given those reasons, pushing back the launch seems to make more sense, at least to me.

Exactly.

Why are we implying Vita was delayed for any reason other than not wanting to compete with most of the worthwhile announced 3DS games being released in the span of a month (and Mario Kart shortly after)? Also, Zelda, Skyrim, Modern Warfare etc. if we're counting non-handheld gaming.

Good to see Vita forced to be delayed so that it isn't dissappointing at launch like every system since DS though.

I don't know if it is in trouble, but I remember a lot of people thinking the PSP was gonna whip the DS and that didn't happen. Plus, I'm more excited now for a 3DS than I've ever been. Nintendo Power has some awesome previews. And RE:Revelations, it looks better graphically than RE4, no doubt. And then a portable Smash down the line seals the deal.

WOE TO SONY, FOR THEIR DOWNFALL IS NEEEEEEEEEAR.

... I mean, really? Really? Are we doing this already? Can the system at least get a release before we start asking if it's in trouble?

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.

Basically. I'm sure the Vita will do just fine.

Come now, if the slightest amount of logic was allowed to be applied here, half the threads on the forum would cease to exist.

PSP sales continue to be oddly impressive in Japan, so maybe Sony will have a strong market there.
But, while people like to talk about how one will beat the other, I'm quite sure both 3DS and Vita have less success overall compared to last gen because of a common enemy in smartphones.
It's pretty sad because, although there are some great games made for phones, a lot of the big releases on those "consoles" look like this:

And then if you'll notice the comments, people actually take this as the future of gaming. Sigh.

I'm certain this is the biggest reason for the 3DS's sales being less than expected. The market just isn't the same anymore.

Stop complaining and GO PLAY GAMES.

Exactly, my friend. The 3DS is already a must have for ANY fighting game fan, with everything from Blayzblue to Tekken. I already have most of them. But when the 3DS is blessed with those highly anticipated titles:
Pokemon
Animal Crossing
Revelations
Mario
Kirby
DK
AND SO ON!
The Vita will be deemed less successful

Vita looks great but PSP at its time was more than great despite its problems. I bought it at first week of launch. Still PSP was expensive, but it had the wow factor. I mean it was the first time that handheld games looked as good as the ones in current NG consoles (GC, PS2). PSP wasn't a failure, it struggled in the start but it was a success in the end worldwide (73 million sales a failure? Ha). Portable gaming market today is entirely different. Now we have ipads, other tablets, iphone, ipod touch, android, win7 phones. Ok, ps vita games look good but thats not enough. People dont have as much money in general as 5 years ago. 3ds launch failed for a reason. My prediction is that it will have a better start than 3ds but both consoles will underperform compared DS and PSP

PSVita isn't even out yet, and things look bad for the 3DS
The only thing here thats in trouble is the 3DS.
Did we all forget about the price-cut?

Yes but there taking a very risky step by missing the hoilday season, and that's a company's biggest time to sell. So by the time the Vita comes out, the 3DS will already have a 1-Year Library. :X
