Update time! I've gotten to the Golden Saucer casino-type place and just got tossed down into jail. I'm really liking the stories and the characters and that kind of thing (just heard Barrett's backstory). Gameplay I'm a little mixed on. There are a lot of different things that keep popping up to do, which I guess is kind of cool, but it becomes a bit much. I wish it would just stick to being an RPG with maybe one or two things thrown in occasionally to mix things up, but it's almost like it's only half RPG with the other half being a racer/fighter/strategy/puzzle/whatever mashup. At least these sections don't really overstay their welcome. There have also been a number of times when I haven't really known where to go or what to do, and not because I was lost but because there were multiple ways I could go and didn't know which one I was supposed to take, and now I'm afraid I've missed things. Like I had a choice to either go to the place with the condor on top and help protect it or go to Junon and go across the sea. I tried the condor place but didn't have enough money to hire soldiers so I skipped it and I don't know if that was bad or if I can go back to it or not. This kind of freedom I'm sure was awesome back in the day and I would probably think it was awesome now if I didn't have such a backlog and kind of just want a linear story to follow to experience this game and then move on. Overall, though, I'm still enjoying it, even if the random encounters seem to be increasing and becoming more irritating.

You can do Fort Condor after that, @Xyphon22 .... Not sure exactly when the last opportunity is but it's certainly available until you have to put disc 2 in

The best way to sum up that trailer is Attack on Titan: Final Fantasy Edition. Select individuals who are able to transform into kaiju and throw down with other kaiju. Kaiju are a very popular trope in Japan pop culture. Naruto might have done the angle best with the tailed beasts, with each shinobi nation having their own as representation in battle. Thoroughly unoriginal, but that won't stop me from watching someone else play through the game, it'll still be cool.

I'll copy and paste my comment from a YouTube video here because I can't be bothered by typing it out again but I did just want to share my 2 cents on the new trailer and FFXVI in general:

Honestly don't know how I feel about this trailer. It looks like every Final Fantasy they try to make it more epic and raise the stakes high, here it's showcasing essentially battling Kaijus which by itself is cool but I'm not quite sure it fits in the setting of FF Tactics, FFXII and FFXIV. Those are very popular settings, yes, but they're very beloved more because of their grounded, political lore and intricate storytelling, not because of what is essentially raging colossal gods killing a hundred in one swipe.

This feels a lot like FFXV, where I felt the game was a chore after 10-20 hours with heaps of spectacle but barely any substance and great gameplay to keep me moving forward. Maybe I'm getting older and more jaded but there HAS to be more to this game than just what they're showing. It worries me that these are the aspects that they are focusing on in all their trailers.

Of course, time will tell, maybe I'm completely wrong about this and the game will turn out great. This trailer just did nothing to excite me. They're trying to be more 'mature' with FF by making it cinematically more like The Witcher, you even have some light nudity and gore in here, but that's not what made the Witcher series stand out in the first place. Square also mentioned how they're making DQ a 'darker' series by the 12th entry and that also worries me because I'm not sure they're competent enough to understand what 'mature' and 'dark' entails. It's not nudity or gore but it's the themes and more intricate ways to tell your story that actually matter.

So far out of JRPGs I'm probably looking forward to Xenoblade 3 the most, Monolith has shown great promise thus far aside from a few things I hold a big grudge against from XC2 but I hope to be proven wrong about this one. We do need more successful high budget JRPGs after XC2 and FFXV disappointed.

One last thing: for the love of god, release the final product that stands great on its own. Don't try and create another 'universe' like you did with FFVII and FFXV. Please don't make another Kingsglaive and 50 sub-par animes and phone games to make this product good. It should be good by itself in my library, and you can later expand on it.

I want to remind people as I think everybody seems to forget every once in a while that a good trailer =/= a good game. Trailer teams are a completely separate profession and they are great at making something even actually bad to look good in a short video.

The way I think it works within a game developer company is that they give little dot points of what they would like to be shown in a trailer and then the marketing team starts working on it using the footage that they have. What you see in a trailer is essentially what the developer wants to show you but with the marketing team making it look extra spectacular...what they were showing in this trailer just didn't grab me because spectacle isn't what I looked for in the FF series to begin with.

When they show very little of the gameplay itself, what you'll be doing 90% of the time while playing the game, it's very worrying. Take the Breath of the Wild trailer for example, which I still consider to be the best game trailer ever made, it shows you the theme of the game, a little bit of the story and a LOT of what you'll actually be doing and the world you'll be exploring. It got people hyped which means that it worked very well in the game's favor but even then I still didn't take the trailer in and think to myself "this is gonna be one of the best experiences", I waited for the game to come out and see the complete package as intended.

It's easy to get hyped with trailers especially from E3. I looked at this and visually it was stunning and it was great seeing all these FF mainstays in a new game, but that absolutely doesn't mean I will pre-order this game especially not after the mixed bag that was FFVII and the bad experience I had with FFXV.

Well, naturally, they have to show the most spectacular bits at the moment, @Varkster .... But I do also want the same things as you in the final game, as well!
I quite liked FFXV, although I only got it on Steam when it was half price for the game & all the dlc & it isn't my favourite FF game
But I'm encouraged by the team on FFXVI, so I certainly want to see more of the game

@BruceCM
I'm done with Roman number Final Fantasy games after FF XIII.
FF XIII itself was terrible.
I don't play online only games from FF XIV.
I banned FF XV and FF XVI for being too mature and disgusting.
SquareEnix just ruined Final Fantasy games into disgusting rated M Western games.

Gotta save the ending for Final Fantasy VII Recycle 😅

Anyhow seeing how they based the first part on just the first few hours of the original game, I suppose three games total isn’t too bad.

Yeah I was kinda hoping they’d finally have the remake on Xbox 😕

I was also expecting that Chibi game they showed to be a Pocket Edition version of the remake for mobile and Switch. I would’ve for sure bought that.
